The Child
"The new AEon is the worship of the spiritual made one with the material, of Horus, of the Child, of the Future."
"This child Horus is a twin, two in one. Horus and Haropcrates are one.."
".. the worship of the Child, in which we come to perceive events as a continual growth partaking in its elements of both these methods."
(worship of Father/Osiris and Mother/Isis)
Synopsis of Holy Books pages xxxi and xxxii. Thelema. ( Holy Books of Thelema)
(italics are mine)
While reading the book Thelema (Holy Books) I came across these passages and thought to myself, what if Crowley had only gotten it partly right, or maybe it was that the New AEon was more then just Horus, it is all about The Child.
Would not Anpu and Wepwawet fit the above also?
Isn't Anpu "The Royal Child?" and isn't Wepwawet a silent God as modern magicians and the ancient Greeks saw Haropcrates? ( Horus the Child isn't making a sign of silence, he's sucking on his finger. That is how you know he's a child) Are not Anpu and Wepwawet twins and often confused as one? Both are jackal Gods, and lead the Soul/dead to the next world. Both defended the body of Osiris in this and the next world, both defended Horus the Child and taught him the arts of war and kingship. Both have many more attributes than the laymen know. One is active and one is passive, yet the seeds of one are in the other.
Is not the silent God the forerunner of the more active God? One to transend, one to transform? Haropcrates comes before Horus, Wepwawet comes before Anpu.
Take this one more step. Jesus and John. In some stories John and Jesus were born at the same time and grew up together. Both spent their childhoods together. John while a active preacher was a shadow of Jesus's ministry, and John made the way for Jesus. Now I'm not saying that John and Jesus were or are part of Thelema, though if you compare the Book of the Law with parts of the Old and New Testaments you will be surprised. And Crowley had a lot of Christian myth mixed in with his own personal myths and Thelemic imagery.
Never the less I hope you see my point. could not a Thelemite chose his own Child myth? to fit into the AEon of The Child symbolism?
Yes Horus and Haropcrates are the 'same" God, though in Thelemic symbolism Hadit, which is Horus of Behdety, The Winged Disk. Is an older Horus God. As is Ra-Hoor Khuit, or to be more exact Ra-Hoor-Khuit is a form of the God Ra. let me digress for a bit.
Many Thelemites claim you can not apply old Egyptian Gods and Goddesses to the Gods of the Book of The Law.
They state that the Gods of The Book are "New" Gods and thus can't be compared. That is fine for those who believe that "new" Gods are better then six thousand year old Gods. Ask your self, are Gods that are only a hundred years old as powerful as Gods that are six thousand or more years old???
OK my point is can not a Thelemite apply his own Child/God symbolism to the New AEon?
My answer would be yes.
