JOLLY, THE BLUE CLOWN
HOW BOO BEAR TAKES TEARS AWAY

JOLLY, THE BLUE CLOWN
Jolly is not Jolly
Here's Jolly the clown
A clown who is sad.
Blue Jolly the clown.

Who wants to be glad.
His BIRTHDAY'S today,
But Jolly is Blue.
He's new in this town,
So what should he do?

Sad Jolly the Clown
Does not have a friend.
A party he wants
Invitations he'll send.

"The circus has come,
Please come to my house."
"I'll ask every one,
Yes, Even the mouse."

The Giant in Black,
So big, and so tall,
"A PARTY," he said:
"Come one, and come all."

A BIRTHDAY should be
Fun party! Not blue!
"Slim man on the stilts,
I'm asking you, too!"

The clowns, they all heard,
And how they did run,
Excited for pink
and red BIRTHDAY fun

The others found out,
"We'll all do some tricks."
Fat Lady in Pink
Gave out the Pink Drinks.

A clown dressed in Brown,
He jumped up and down.
A Clown all in Red
Then stood on her head.

The girl in the air
Soon flipped everywhere.
A funny White Bear
Sat, splat on her hair.

A long Slinky Snake
Sang "BIRTHDAY SING SONG."
Six slippery seals
Played ball and ping-pong.

The cake tasted great!
Ice scream was snow white.
Six candles were lit.
(Oh, do be polite!)

The neighborhood kids
Heard clatter and noise
They came to join in
The laughter and toys.

Now Jolly Blue Clown
Had a party of fun:
Played his is favorite game
Is hide, seek and run.

Is Jolly still blue?
You knew? Oh? You knew?
He made some new friends.
Oh! You were there, too?

HOW BOO BEAR TAKES TEARS AWAY

My sister and I have a cuddly bear.
We cry on her when we are sad.
We hug her when we’re excited and
We pound on her when we are mad.
Bear listens and helps with our problems,
She’s troubled when we don’t feel well.
But now Boo Bear has her own quandry,
So, listen, she’s something to tell.
Boo says that her dress is all dirty.
It’s torn, and it’s stained and it’s old.
She wants a new dress with bright colors
And pockets for things she will hold.
We asked mom to find us just something
To sew up Boo Bear a new dress.
Mom let us both look in her scrap box,
"This curtain will do I should guess."
Mom helped us to cut out a pattern
And sew all the pockets on, too.
We put in a bow and some pennies,
Some rocks, and Boo whispered, "Me, too!
I want to put tears in my pockets,
Your tears, when I cuddle you two.
And then you’ll become quite excited
Instead of all limpy and blue."
Now Boo Bear, she likes her new pockets.
Dear reader, do you have some, too?
And have you a favorite Teddy
Who listens real good when you’re blue?

VILLANELLE…by Marion Sadler

I wait for summer every winter long.
I do still love the falling of each snow,
But visions of our lakes remain so strong.
With Ice Capades I used to join in song.
We'd figure skate 'til nothing else we'd know.
But visions of our lakes remain so strong.
It's devastating when things all go wrong.
Twice boat's motor broke; we had a tow.
Yet Oklahoma's lakes' where I belong.
Remember skating in the ice rink show?
And making angels in the Iowa snow?
But visions of our lakes remain so strong.
I wait for summer every winter long.
