My name is Dawn Dankowski. I’m 29 years old. I have a sister named Michelle Leone. She is 24 years old. In 1988, our mother came up missing from her home in Shiloh, Illinois. For almost 19 years, I have been searching for her. I have names she may go by, her social security number, date of birth, and a few pictures of her. I am going to apologize in advance because the information I am going to give you may not be complete or in chronological order. However, any information that I do not include, I will be happy to give to you if I have it.My mother was born on January 1, 1958 to Patricia Gately. She was baptized on June 1, 1958 at the Church of St. Boneventure in Lavallette, New Jersey by Reverend Stephen I. Buivides. The pastor of the church at this time was Reverend Michael F. Bakaisa. This was a Roman Catholic Church. At this time, her given name was Doreen Gately. This was her name until she was adopted on April 24, 1959, by John Frederick Dankowski and Norma Louise (Moore) Dankowski. After adoption, she was named Jacqueline Louise Dankowski. She had five siblings after the adoption. Their names now are Carol DeVoe, Carl (Butch) Yonker, Janice Larson, Eva Huey, and Beverly Butler.
And then there is my sister and I. Her name is Michelle Lynne Leone. She was born May 18, 1983. My full name is Dawn Jeanette Dankowski and I was born June 29, 1978. I was born in Toms River, New Jersey. Our father (as far as we know) was the late Vincent A. Leone.
My mother moved us around a lot. Her last known address was 921 Wherry Road in Shiloh, Illinois 62269. That was in 1988. After she left this address, it’s possible that she may have gone to a women’s shelter. The last time I saw her, I believe she was approximately 5’2”, 170 lbs. or maybe more. She had sandy blonde hair. She wears prescription glasses or may have contacts now. Today she would be 49.
I know that she has some aliases that she uses. Here are the ones that I am aware of: Jacquelyn Leone, Jacquelyn Dankowski, and she may be using her given birth name: Doreen Gately. She may go by Jackie, Jacqueline, or Jacquelyn.
I have done searches online to a certain extent. I have even gone so far as to look up her social security number in databases that I have access to. My grandmother had put out a missing persons report when she was first found missing. There was an article put in the Belleville News-Democrat around that time as well. There was no foul play suspected. From what I have found, she has either changed her social security number or is now deceased. I look on the www.ancestry.com SS Death Index on a regular basis but have yet to find her name.
I just want to find my mom. It’s now been over 18 years. My sister and I have missed out on a lot of events that daughters share with their mother. We want her to know she has two grand-daughters...Emahlee Dawn and Madyson Lee. We just want to know if she’s living or not…and if she is…does she want her daughters back?
