It is the day before Leech's flight to Boston, she is supposed to be having surgery there, but if Malcolm Yates has the acting ability of an elephant then she can forget it.
LEECH AND MALCOLM ARE AT THE MANSION.
MALCOLM: ...and I watched how he eats and I made notes about his attitude, you know "what would he say or do if this happened," I've watched how he walks and how he runs, the only other person I've told about the plan is the maid at Caroline's house, she'll back me up in case anything goes wrong ....everything covered really.
LEECH: Not really. Walter has a spot on the end of his nose. Here.
LEECH TAKES SOME LIPSTICK AND PLACES A DAB ON THE END OF MALCOLM'S NOSE.
MALCOLM: Does that really matter?
LEECH: Yes. As I remember from drama school when I was younger, acting needs 100% accuracy!
MALCOLM: Won't 85% do?
LEECH: No!
MALCOLM: Oh dear.
OUTSIDE CAROLINE'S MANSION, LEECH IS IN THE CAR, MALCOLM IS AT THE DOOR, HE KNOCKS, TURNS TO LEECH FOR REASSURANCE. THEN CAROLINE LOOKS OUT OF THE WINDOW AND LOOKS SHOCKED. MALCOLM TIMIDLY SMILES AT HER.
CAROLINE'S VOICE: No need to answer the door this time Jeeves.
CAROLINE OPENS THE DOOR.
CAROLINE: (happy) Walter, I thought you were never going to come back!
MALCOLM: (in a different, but convincing accent) How could I live without you?
SHE HUGS HIM AND THEY BOTH ENTER, LEECH GIVES A SIGH OF RELIEF AND DRIVES AWAY.
LATER SHE IS AT HALL'S FLAT.
HALL: I'm sorry you couldn't meet my wife, she's away on business. Do you have the money safe?
LEECH: Yes it is in my handbag.
HALL: There's something I want to say....
LEECH: (looking upset) You want to reclaim the money.
HALL: NO! Why would I say a thing like that?
LEECH: You haven't had a call from Ca....(relieved).... anyway, what were you saying?
HALL: I was going to wish you a lovely time.
LEECH: And a lovely time I shall have. I'll send you a postcard. Goodbye.
HALL: Goodbye.
SHE LEAVES. NO SOONER HAS SHE GONE, THE PHONE RINGS. HALL PICKS IT UP.
HALL: Hello......oh hello Caroline.......what?......she did what?.....I can't believe she would do a thing like this....I agree with you....she is a traitor....she doesn't deserve it.... (calling out the door) GAIL COME BACK HERE NOW!
TOO LATE, SHE HAS GONE!
LATER LEECH IS SPEAKING ON THE PHONE IN HER FLAT.
LEECH: Hello, can I speak to the cleaner?....(pause)....Hello cleaner, I just wanted to know how everything went.
CLEANER'S VOICE: Oh lord! I suggest you run away to the airport right now!
LEECH: Why? What happened?
CLEANER'S VOICE: Caroline found out about the plan, she kissed Malcolm and the spot on his nose smudged. she guessed immediately what was going on. She wasn't too happy about it. There was a full scale argument. She phoned her father to tell him to reclaim the money, but it was too late you'd already gone. Then she phoned the police.
LEECH: The police?
CLEANER'S VOICE: Yes! Watch yourself! There are police everywhere.
LEECH PUTS THE PHONE DOWN IMMEDIATELY AND CLUTCHING HER HANDBAG HURRIES OUT OF THE FLAT, SLAMMING THE DOOR BEHIND HER.
Will she make it the airport? Will she be caught by the police? Will her leg ever get fixed?
