This is set the day after the fiasco at the mansion - Gail Leech has two weeks and three days to reconcile Walter and Caroline Yates, if she fails then she will have to suffer in pain for the rest of her life.
LEECH AND MAUD ARE IN LEECH'S CAR. IT SCREECHES TO A HALT OUTSIDE ANOTHER MANSION IN THE COUNTRYSIDE.
LEECH: This is the address the cleaning lady gave me. Oh Maud, I hope Walter Yates is an understanding man.
MAUD: By the way Mrs. Yates spoke about him yesterday you'd think he was a piece of dirt.
LEECH: That can't be true, she just a little over-reactive, that's all..... I am scared, though, I'll be standing there with my common accent, gibbering frantically in front of two of the richest men in the area. It'll be like a nerdy high-school girl trying to persuade the head boy to join homework club!
MAUD: Don't think of it like that, just go in, tell Walter that his wife loves him very much and that she wants him back, it's bound to work....
INSIDE THE MANSION, MAUD, LEECH, WALTER AND HIS TWIN BROTHER MALCOLM ARE SITTING ON THE SOFA.
WALTER: Absolutely not! After what she said to me last night? I don't think so. Me and Caroline are finished. Tomorrow I will be filing for divorce.
LEECH: (worried) But it was all my fault, I split you up inadvertently...
WALTER: So you've said, but Caroline said some things to me which were irreversible, I just won't be able to face her again.
LEECH: She loves you.
WALTER: Maybe, but the night before last, she drummed me, banged me, hit me, shouted at me, squealed at me, she even threw her grandmother's ashes at me, and you expect after all that, I could go back to her and say "Hello darling, I've come back!" It's outlandish.
LEECH STARTS TO CRY. WALTER LEAVES.
MALCOLM: I don't understand why you are crying, surely the marital status of your friend's daughter doesn't really affect you.
MAUD: Oh, but it does.
MALCOLM: However?
MAUD: Gail has a crippled leg resulting from a car accident, she cannot walk anywhere without a walking stick and it causes great pain for her. Caroline's father promised to give her £500 to pay for the clinic in Boston in America, but Gail accidentally split Walter and Caroline up after a mistake on the telephone, and Caroline said that if Gail does not reconcile them, then she will stop the payment.
MALCOLM: Why that's terrible, wait a minute, who's paying for the airline ticket?
LEECH: That was a loan I took out from my local bank - £1000.
MALCOLM: Take out another loan, then.
LEECH: No, my bank account balance is so low, the bank thinks I won't be able to pay it back.
MALCOLM: What a shame, I can't imagine what you must be going through, I'm so sorry but I can't help........Wait a minute....
MAUD: What is it?
MALCOLM: I've had an idea. Walter and I are identical twins, I'm sure that with a lot of confidence and and a lot of practice I could pass myself off as Walter, for the rest of the month, that way Caroline would think her marriage was safe and therefore you could get the money!
MAUD: Oh my goodness, that is such a devious plan.
MALCOLM: I'll do anything as long as it's for a good cause. What do you think of the idea Mrs. Leech?
MAUD: Oh Gail, you couldn't possibly....
LEECH: (smiles) I'm all for it!
MAUD IS STUNNED.
