- chapter nineteen

I stood there, almost nervous to see Taylor. Maybe he wouldn't know I cheated, right? I doubt Davey and Zac even noticed, they were too busy to waste their time watching me. Sammy was suppose to meet me here, I was practically shaking from nervousness. Was she someone I could trust? Would she pull through, could she get the novels? I mean, if you had to choose between letting Taylor find these novels that were years before, or walking naked through a Burger King drive-thru, which one would you choose? Hopefully the right one, I would assume. Or am I worried about absolutely nothing? I only wish I didn't have to find out.

"You ready to be busted or what?" December said, giggling and nudging my side. I turned toward her, if only she knew. She, Zac, and Davey were here early, like me, while we still all await Taylor and Ike's arrival.

"Mm, guess so," I shrugged, "What can I say? I'm a cheater." I admitted, saying a silent 'excuse me' and walking toward the D.J system I set up. It was already 7:54, and the dance starts at 8:00. Maybe I should put a song on? I decided I would try, and turned toward the request list. I instantly noticed Jessica had written in 'Mmmbop' as a dedication to her friends. I signaled toward Davey, and she cut the lights. The entire field went dark, and you could hear murmurs of cluelessness. "Hey guys!," I spoke, and at that moment, Davey hit the colors beams, smiling when field turned orange and blue. "Are you ready to party?" I questioned, my mouth close to the microphone. I felt a rush of excitement flow over me, and I forgot my nervousness when all the teenagers let out a ripple of screams. There must be more then 800 teens here, I told myself, pressing a read button on the board. Let's hope that was the right button. The intro to Mmmbop started, and I knew it was perfect. "Seeing Taylor hasn't arrived yet, I figured I would start the dance off with a little dedication. This song goes out to all of Jessica's friends, she wants you to know she loves you all and will always believe in you." I pulled away, stopping the temptation to sing along to the beginning words. I looked toward the parking lot, just in time, because Taylor and Isaac stepped out of Ike's jeep. I put in the Britney's Spears sophomore release, programmed it on number 7, 'Lucky', and stepped off the stage, hurrying through the teens.

"Sorry we're late." Tay said, a huge smirk on his face.

"I know, I cheated, I'm sorry." I said, taking his hand, my eyes scanning the parking lot. Sammy hasn't shown yet. Where is she?

"You didn't do it?" Ike asked, uh-oh.

"I was told you didn't have any help." Taylor said, tilting his face downward toward me. I smiled, I can't believe I just did that! How could he have not known? I groaned low in my throat, I'm such an idiot.

"I knew you had Dave and Zac watching me! But how, I thought they, I didn't," I stuttered, hearing a car door slam. I whipped my head around, searching the parking lot. "Yes! Sammy!" I almost shrieked, letting go of Taylor's hand and rushing toward my friend. "You did it, thank you." I cried, tears already streaming down my face. She held out her arms and took me into a hug, laughing.

"I've heard so much about you, I've always wanted to be friends with you. I wasn't going to let Becca stop me." she smiled. I pulled away from her, smiling broadly and trying to regain myself. What a fool I am, how could I have ever doubted her?

"Thank you so much Sam." I repeated, allowing her to pull away and reach into the car. She pulled out seven disks, as well as a book.

"I'm sorry I'm late, but I was replacing the dates, and deleting all the file's and copied disks she had made. She changed the dates on your stuff, so I restored them." she told me, placing my novels into my hand. I felt as if my world was back, my life, my smile, my soul, it was all back.

"Amanda?" Tay asked, and I turned around, seeing he and Ike standing behind us. "You okay?" his confused tone melted toward concern, as he saw tears staining my cheeks.

"I am, I'm sorry." I laughed, "This is my friend Sammy, she helped me set up today." I told him, taking his hand.

"Nice to meet you." Taylor said, holding me close.

"The pleasure is mine," Isaac said, taking a hold of Sammy's hand and giving her a sweet shake.

"I hate to cut this short, but the song's are almost over." I rushed in, letting go of Taylor's hand and guiding him toward the dance area. "We'll catch up with you two in a few minutes." I said, grabbing Sammy's hand and tugging her toward the snack area. Zac and Davey were in charge of selling snacks, and watching purses. My backpack has been over there since early this morning, and I knew my novels would be safe. "Hey Zac, would you mind watching these? I'm putting them in my purse." I let go of Sam, she stood, watching me.

"Who's your friend?" Davey questioned, smiling up at us.

"Oh!," I laughed, shoving my secrets into my purse, and retying it onto the back of the chair, "This is Sammy, we met today. She'll be hanging out with us for a while." I said, proudly. I didn't stop myself from smiling again. I knew, for sure, this girl was going to be a good friend to me. She saved me.

"Nice to meet you." Davey smiled, squirming away from Zac's grasp so she could reach up to greet her new friend.

"Pleasure is mine." Sammy replied, shaking Davey's hand bouncing slightly along to the beat. "Let's go dance." She spoke, turning toward me.

"Alright," we began to turn toward the dance floor, "We'll catch up with you guys later." I didn't wait for an answer, I grabbed Sammy's hand and we rushed to the center of the dance floor.

I tried to soak in the rhythm of the music, but it wasn't working for me. My thoughts were corrupting me. I had gotten my life back, everything was going so wonderful, I kept telling myself. But in the back of my mind, I couldn't help but think, what would Taylor had done if he had found those novels? The false ones, that is. The ones with the edited dates. I mean, I do have a small price to pay for our happiness. I only wish I didn't feel so horrible about it. Why was I torturing myself so?

"Mandy, look," Sammy screamed in my ear. She knew my mind was someplace else, she knew me so well, already! "He's looking at you, look." She grabbed my chin and turned my head to look at Taylor. His face was glistening with the reflections of green lights, and his eyes shimmered in the dim light. He looked gorgeous, mystical actually. There was something hidden in his eyes, did he know? I felt my stomach fall, and I knew I was going to be sick. I was stressing so much about nothing, I knew I was. I couldn't help it though. "He looks sexy, huh?" she asked me, laughing. I looked at her, trying to avoid his gaze. I knew he could read right through me. Always could. Not as well as Isaac could, however. And if Ike thought something was wrong with me, he would have approached me. But he hasn't. Not yet anyway.

"Mm," I smiled, my hips swaying at their own beat. "I'm getting tired, I'm going to sit down." I told her. She smiled, her face unfazed by what I just told her.

"Want me to sit down?" She asked.

"Nah," I shook my head, leaning close so she could hear me better, "I know he's going to play a slow one next, so why don't you go dance with that guy." I pointed off by the dim light off by the chairs. He was bearly moving, and his dark eyes were fixated on my friend and I. He had a seductive smile tugging at his lips, and I knew Sammy would like him. "I'll come back in a while, go talk to him." I turned her around and shoved her in his direction. She smiled at me, squealing from low in her throat, as she walked away. Alright, good. Now I can think.

"Hey Mans," It was December, "Guess what I found out? You'll never believe!" she whispered, her lips close to my ear so I could hear her clearly.

"Huh?" I asked, knowing I couldn't hear anything she just said.

"Taylor has a surprise for you! It's really sweet." she spoke, her voice echoing through my mind. Surprise? What kind of surprise?

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused. She couldn't stop herself from bopping, and if she didn't tell me quickly, I was about to bop her to Mars. "Dee! C'mon! What is it?"

"Dude, listen to me! Go over there!," she pointed toward the seats under the stage. They were comfy ones, for the D.J's quests. I knew which one was my seat, but wasn't about to go sit in it., "Just wait there, you'll see." And, with just a smile, December turned on her heel and bounced her way to Ike. Hmm, she must of heard Ike telling Zac. Or Zac telling Ike? I knew one of them knew, I just wish I knew which one knows! Pushing my doubts to the back of my mind, I steadied myself and slowly stepped forward. I wasn't going to sit around and wait for a surprise, I was going to go get it.

"Alright guys, having fun?" Taylor shouted, his hair falling over his eyes. I knew he was looking for me, but I decided to keep low anyway. "Lemme hear you scream!" he screamed, his body flowing in a slow, seductive, rhyme. "I would like to call my brothers Zac and Ike up here, everyone give them a big hand!" I turned, my head whirling around. Ike and Zac held their heads high, smiling and laughing as they fought their way through the crowd.

"Told you!" December shrieked, running by me. She and Davey were hand in hand, racing toward the front of the stage. Were they expecting me to follow them? I wondered to myself, stepping forward and catching into a quick pace. My heart was pounding fiercely against my chest, my breath running ragged.

"We have a little surprise going on tonight, and we're glad you guys could be here to see it." Zac shouted, his mouth pressing against the mic. I slowed my pace, noticing Taylor was gazing directly into my eyes. I felt my insides shudder with his fiery sparkle, and I fought the urge to turn away. God, I love him.

"Yeah," Ike took hold of the mic now, "I guess you guys all know that Taylor and Zac were bitten by the love bug not to long ago..," I gasped, he left out December. Oh, I felt tears well up in my eyes as I frantically searched for Dee. At exactly the same moment, when my eyes met hers, her eyes shifted from Isaac to me. She was holding back tears, I could tell. Davey leaned close against her, wrapping her arm around her waist. As if she was supporting Dee, almost preventing her from falling due to her weak knees. I started to walk, but I heard Isaac clear his throat. So I froze, my eyes staring directly into his. "I don't know if I'm in love, but it feels like it. And I would be very happy if Davey, December and Mandy came on stage to join us."

- -

OH. MY. GOD.

Ohmigod, I thought to myself. I stepped forward slowly, almost having to reach down and lock my knees in place. If I didn't hold my breath, I was sure I was going to fall from weakness of the heart. I looked over at Taylor, who was trying to stop himself from smiling at me. I quickly looked away, my eyes catching Davey's. She tilted her head toward the stage, and began to step toward the stage entrance. She must know something, she wouldn't be smiling if she didn't. Her fingers were intertwined with Dee's, and they began to slowly, carefully, climb the stairs.

"C'mon Mandy, don't be shy." Zac said, his hands gripping the mic now. I looked around me, my world swirling like a rapid whirl-wind. The teenagers around me began to scream for me to move, as if motivating me. I sucked in my breath, my eyes focusing on the ground as I began to slowly step toward the stage. Some of Jessie's friends were hooting at me, Scout especially. He leaned toward me and gave me an encouraging shove.

I quickened my step and was finally on the stage. Davey reached out a hand to me, but I ignored it. I didn't really like the fact that I was on stage in front of probably thousands of teens, not knowing what might happen. I looked down at the people in front of the stage. There was Sammy, she was smiling broadly, her body pressed up against the guy I had noted earlier. He was smiling, his lips close to her ear as he looked up at me. Did they know? Taylor leaned over the c.d holder, and opened it. Isaac leaned close to him, whispering something with a smile. I tried to ignore it, but when I watched my fiancee' place the plain c.d into the system, I almost died. My knees shuddered beneath me, and my hands began to sweat with anxiousness. Maybe this was about the bet. No, Taylor isn't that cold hearted. I couldn't help but smile at my thought, so I hid it behind my hair when I turned my head away. Biting on my lower lip, I gazed back at the three men who mean the world to me.

"Alright guys, should we scare them a little?" Zac questioned the crowd, who screamed in reply. I exchanged looks with Davey and Dee, each of us questioning each other with silence. I knew one of them most have known, and I would have been able to tell you who it was. If only my mind was so swirled! I fought the urge to groan allowed, as I watched Taylor and Isaac approach Dee and I. My eyes instantly met Taylor's and I knew that if I hadn't fought the urge so well, my heart would have skipped a beat. "Girls, will you kindly stand over there so the crowd can see you."

"Oh great." I muttered, taking the hand that was extended to me from Taylor. Isaac took both Davey and Dee by the hand and guided them to the opposite side of the D.J. system.

"Ready guys?" Zac asked the screaming crowd. The response was electrical, and I felt my face begin to burn. "Alright,..." and the mic was off. Dave, Dee and I all turned our heads, gazing at Zac. He gave us his famous cheesy smile and looked at Taylor for the next step. I, probably the only one to notice, watched Isaac lean down and pick up three microphones. I've never seen them hold mics before, they've always had their instruments in hand. I almost thought it was cute, until I saw Taylor nod his head at his younger brother. Davey reached for my shoulder, nudging me to move back so she could see. I did as I was told, and must have missed Zac turn on the c.d. Music, unfamiliar music started to play. It was a ballad, one I've never heard of.

"What are they doing?" Davey asked, leaning close to my face. I looked at her, telling her with my eyes that I didn't know. Maybe she took my hint, because she stopped talking. Although I hid that command behind my eyes, she must've noticed it. Taylor stepped close to me, his hand running down my arm before grasping my left hand. His blue eyes were sparkling like diamonds, and my heart fluttered intensely when he opened his mouth to sink. I died, right then and there when I heard the emotion in his voice. It was a new song, he had written it without my knowing. How did I not know about this? Because, he keeps all his lyrics down in a note book, under his pillow. I move it every night before we go to bed, placing it under the bed. What a sneak! I looked at Davey, maybe I wouldn't cry. I wish I didn't feel the passion from his voice ruin through his fingertips into my veins. My knees began to shake, and he paused his part. I looked back at him, seeing Zac step up infront of Davey. She was already in tears from the lyrics of the song. I was about to speak, but Taylor's eyes shushed me. He and his brother's hit a high, emotional, passionate note on the chorus, and tears filled my eyes. He loves me as much as I him, and yet, I can not use words to express it. He, along with his brothers, can. And did. Taylor sang several more words before pulling me against his body. I felt the heat of him press against me, and the feeling sent shivers up my spine. The feeling he gave me when he looked deep into my eyes, singing his soul to me, made me wish I could cry. Isaac sang, his voice deep and husky. He pressed himself up against Dee, and she was already crying. His part wasn't as love stricken as Taylor, or Zac's was. But it was enough to make any women cry. A low note in the song hushed them, and I knew it was ending.

"I love you Amanda," Taylor whispered into the mic. I looked up at him, several tears rolling down my cheeks. My face was burning, and his hands cooled me when he brought his hands to grasp my face. I took hold of his mic, and he let it go into my grasp. He tilted his mouth toward me, and whispered again, "I'll forever love you Amanda, I always have." I choked, tears flooding onto his fingertips.

"I know," I nodded, "I love you too, always will." Before I could regain myself, he was pressed completely against me, his mouth taking captive of mine. My mouth was instantly open to him, his tongue slowly making move to me. I urned to feel him in me, but forgot about it when he pulled me closer. I choked on my tears, and I knew he could taste them, because he pulled his tongue out and let it run over the outline of my lips. My tear-stained lips. I smiled, and he did too, before kissing me again.

Zac gazed into Davey's face, her eyes shaking him low in his soul. He felt a fire ignite inside him, and he leaned close to her.

"I know we've been through this before," he laughed, "and you may not want to talk to me ever again after putting you through this," he smiled, his mouth brushing the mic, "but I need you to know how much I love you Davey."

"I know how much you love me." she whispered, wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him close. "I love you." she said, before closing the space between them. They instantly opened to each other, trying to feed their desire to feel each other. They always felt the fire inside their souls, but knew they couldn't do anything about it until they were out of the public eye. Davey smiled, her tongue grazing his lips before she pulled away. "Your going to pay for this, ya know." she told him, referring to the embarrassment of being sung to in public. Bringing him close again, she teased him with her eyes. Her mouth pressed against his, and she felt the breath of his laughter against the back of her throat.

December was shaking, she knew it, and Isaac knew it. They had only spent one night together, but he knew it. By looking into her eyes, he could tell her shook her to her soul.

"Your such a jerk," Dee told him, looking into his eyes. He leaned close to her, no words being expressed between them. He dropped the mic to his side, feeling her hands hug it close to her. He knew she loved him and he knew he was going to tell her he loved her too, but not now.

"I know." He whispered in reply, before gripping her chin in his hand and closing the space between them. He caressed her lips with his tongue before fully capturing her mouth with his. She gripped the mic hard in her hand as she wrapped her right arm around his neck to bring him close. She knew it. He loved her.
