The 322nd bomb wing / 449th and 450th Squadron are the subject of the next two paintings. Roland Scott of the 450th led the first raid on Holland in the "Gawja /Jerk". The 449th B-26 is "Hanks Yanks". I have a friend in Wharton who flew 64 missions with the 449th, ten of them in this aircraft. Joe Urbanovsky was radio /gunner on this aircraft and flew on the famous "Flak Bait" which flew 202 missions over fortress Europe. .

Winter '44 - Owned by: The Wharton County Museum

Murder Inc. 2 oil painted in 2005.18x24. This is the aircraft that local veteran Joe Urbanovsky went to war in. Joe was a T/Sgt. who's job was radio operator and gunner. He retired from the USAF as a Lt. Colonel. He was the band director and principle for Wharton High School. Joe flew 64 missions with the 449th, two on D-Day! He saw the airwar from a front row seat and has many clear memories. He is very modest in his roll as gunner taking only partual credit for shooting down a German Night fighter! This painting and my others like it, is a very small tribute and salute to all the of the "Greatest Generation" who fought WW 2 including the home front folks who backed them up!
