"BLAST FROM THE PAST"

Our Berryhill High School 1960-1964 “Blast From The Past” Reunion is now history.

We had approximately 89 classmates from 1960 to 1964 Classes attend. With spouses we had approximately 130 people at the Sat night function.

We started out Friday night with a Tailgate party prior to the Berryhill verses Meeker football game. The planning Committee, had hot dogs, frito chili pies, with all the Trimmings ready by 6:00 PM. There were many old friendships rekindled, as we all sat and chatted before the ballgame. At 7:00 PM we walked over to the football game to watch Berryhill triumph over Meeker with a score of 28 to 17.

After the game, the class of 1962 had a party at Don Burgess’s home and others went to the church to finish the night visiting.

Saturday Oct. 26th, at 5:00pm several people gathered up at the Church Family Life Center to walk over to the old High School for a tour. At 6:00pm we all gathered at the church for food, entertainment and a whole lot more visiting. Karen Hamby, Lynda Cowan, and Judy Johnson had worked several hours preparing a beautiful buffet meal for us to enjoy. (THANK YOU GIRLS!)

Phill started the ceremonies by awarding certificates of appreciation to all the people that had a hand putting our Berryhill reunion together. Karen (Hamby) Suitor was given a special plaque for her outstanding contribution of organizing the meal. Jimmy Barnhart (1961) won the trophy for coming to the reunion the longest distance. (San Bernardino, CA) Class of 1961 won the trophy for the most classmates attending. (21 out of 42 present. 50%) Calvin Mefford took home a trophy for telling the funniest story about his days at Berryhill High School. His story was about getting caught taking a shower in the girls dressing room. Yes, the girls came in! After that excitement, the program was turned over to Mr. Bobby Hill for a walk down “Memory Lane”. He impersonated Rick Nelson, Buddy Holly, and other great singers from the 50’s and 60’s. After 45 minutes, Bobby took a short break. During that time, Karen gave out awards to the people that were married the longest. Doug Thomas and Leona Mudd won this award by being married 41 years to each other. Billy Cunningham received an award for being married the most times. He has been married 7 times and he also won the trophy for the most children. (31) Calvin Mefford provide the Chief head awards. One of our highlights the night was the introduction of our classmates mothers that attended. Donna McClain, Jackie Morton and Cheryl Trotter’s mothers came out see the some us that grew up with their daughters. We also had a very special guest – Mr. Truman Devine and his beautiful wife joined us for the evening. Mr. Devine gave us a talk on keeping our classmate reunions and friendships going for as long as we can. We were entertained the rest of the evening by Bobby Hill as the King himself “Elvis”. We had a hard time containing the ladies and Calvin! Ha Ha. Bobby sang many of the tunes that we all remembered listening to while hanging out at Gillean’s Store.

Sunday Oct. 27th we had a farewell breakfast at the Village Inn. There were 8 classmates attending and it sure was a nice way to cap off a great weekend. Special thanks go to View Acres Baptist Church, and Larry Stallsworth Assistant Superintendent at Berryhill Schools for their support during this most memorable reunion.
