(1760) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX There Is documentation which shows that Bibby Bush died in 1748. He was born ca. 1728 in Essex Co. The 1760 document says that Thomas, his son, was an infant and on page 151 the "orphan of Bibby Bush." Apparently the court had Thomas Brooke appointed as his guardian. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX The "Barbara" who is mentioned above as the wife of John Bomar and who is bringing the lawsuit with her husband against Thomas, was the daughter of Bibby Bush and his wife Susannah (Spencer) Bush who later married Stephen Neal as a widow of Bibby Bush. ------------------------------------------------------- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Page 151 -"Thomas Bush, orphan of Bibby Bush, deceased, chose Stepen Neal his guardian, and the said Stephen together with Richard Hodges and Thomas Cox, his security, entered into and acknowledged their bond for the same, accordingto law, which bond was admitted to record." ------------------------------------------------------- Page 186 -"Thomas Henry Brooke, guardian of Thomas Bush presented his account against the estate of the said orphan, which, being examined, sworn to and allowed ordered to be recorded." Truly recorded Teste, Samuel Williams O.C.H.C. ------------------------------------------------------- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX The earliest record found for Thomas Bush in Essex County is on the 1783 State Census where he is listed with 3 whites in the household and 7 blacks. The three whites could possibly be himself, his wife, Mary, and their firstborn child. The 1787 Essex Co, VA, State Census lists Thomas Bush as follows: White male chargeable with the tax - Thomas Bush White male chargeable above 21- self 1 white male above 16, but under 21 3 Blacks above 16 4 Blacks under 16 *NOTE: The total of Blacks in 1783 is 7 and also for 1787. This would seem to indicate the Thomas of 1783 and 1787 could be the same. On 26 May 1788 Susannah Bush Neil's will is probated in Halifax Co., VA. On 16 July 1788 Thomas Bush signed a land deed in Halifax. On 8 Jan 1793 Thomas Bush purchased land in Halifax. On 26 Aug 1793 Thomas Bush witnessed a land deed in Halifax. On 13 Dec 1795 Thomas Bush signed a land deed in Halifax. On 8 Aug 1796 Thomas Bush witnessed the sale of 142 acres to Reuben Bomar (grandson of Susannah Bush Neil and Thomas' cousin). Other witnesses were John Bomar and Spence Bomar. 15 Nov 1804 - Date on the probation of the will of Thomas Bush. ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Copy of the Last Will And Testament of Edward Powell--Dated Feb. 25,1804,, ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Halifax County Virginia:::::In the name of God,,Amen.
