Ignorance

Hello once again. It's time for Leppy to share some more of what's on his mind.

The topic of ignorance is one that needs to be delt with in a mature and careful way. People hear the term 'ignorant' and automatically think that it is referring to someone who is dumb as a board. This is not true. Ignorance is defined as a lack of knowledge in something. Stupidity and ignorance are two very different things. Ignorance can be dealt with and eliminated simply by gaining the knowledge that is missing. Stupidity occurs when someone is too proud to admit when they are wrong even though it may be a basic everyday normality of life.

Let me explain. If a person (let's call him Bubba) is told not to hold a fire cracker in his hand, light it, and let it ignite, and yet he does it anyways, it is stupidity. He knows that there is a reason for him being told not to do it, but he does it anyways. Why is this? A lot of it has to do with pride. Pride tells us that we are not expendable, and that we can do whatever we want. Bubba knows that if he lights that fire cracker and lets it explode he will get hurt. So what happens? It blows his hand off. Now everyone in town will look at him and say...hey...there goes that idiot Bubba.

Knowledge has often been seen as power. Throughout history only the intellectual have had power, money, etc. In the old days, only priests were allowed to learn to read. This is true in any culture or system of belief. In Judaism, knowledge is strived for. That is why there are so many succesful members of the Jewish community in the world. We've all heard that old mis-conception of all doctors being Jewish. They are that succesfull because they challenge their minds. It's the same for many other cultures such as Japanese and Chinese. To these people, knowledge is not only an improvement of one's mind, but it is also a way of honoring their parents and in some cases their deities.

The Lord wants us to be filled with knowledge. He wants us to learn, because along with gaining usefull information, a person grows. We need to all begin filling ourselves with knowledge for the battles ahead. Christians need to begin gaining more knowledge of the word, and of the world so that when hard times come, they can be ready.

We all need to be ready, beacause in today's society it is hard to do anything without a proper education. Once again, only those with knowledge go anywhere and have any influence. Blind luck can only go so far, and even then it's not as sure as being educated.

Thank you for coming to read what I have to say. Once again, if you have any questions or comments, please contact me. Thank you.
