Sidekicks: The Substitute One Shot. Writer: J.Torres. Artist: Takeshi Miyazawa. Publisher: Oni Press.

Manga/ Superhero/ High School

First off, if you haven't read Sidekicks before this you're REALLY missing out. Basic premise is that its a special Superhero High School, and its based around four girls who have some pretty cool powers. Phasing, Magic, and strength. They've got it all! So before you check this one shot out, get the Sidekicks graphic novel from Oni Press. Its like 9 bucks already. If you still don't believe me, go to http://www.onipress.com and download the first two issues under free comics. So there! Do it!

So this is really a story about a Substitute who's a former super villain. And SHE is a hot blonde on top of it. Many of the staff have misgivings about her hiring except for the Gym Teacher who's all about that ass. I would be too if I was a comic character. Uh, that didn't sound good did it? Uh anyhoo...this sub has the powers of Magic! Yay Magic! The girls start to befriend her, but some of the guys in the class start pulling some pranks on her. After one incident she magically takes away their abilities to speak. Yowch. Soon after more students start not only losing that, but ALSO their actual mouths. I'll leave it at that so you don't decide to read this and NOT buy the book. I know how lazy you people are.

Not much to really gripe about here. This book is really heads above the rest of the shitmarket around. Miyazawa's artwork really compliments the girls, and other characters of the book. Everyone is their own character, and they all look different. Cute, sexy and definitely cool. That's the vibe of this book. You'll love it, trust me. The only thing I can complain about is that it doesn't come out more often.

9 Magic Mouths out of 10
