CHAKRA INFORMATION

DEFINITION

The word Chakra comes from the Sanscrit and translated means 'wheel'. A chakra is a power point on the body which allows your physical body access to your spiritual energy or 'qi' (prounounced chee). There are 2100 chakras over the surface of our body and each plays a role in life and balance. When Chakras are discussed it is usually in context of the 7 primary chakras as follows.

Crown:

Brow:

located between the eyes

Throat:

located just over the larnyx

Heart:

located in alignment with the physical heart but over the breast bone

Solar Plexus:

located over the stomach three inches beneath the breast bone

Sacral:

located three inches to the left of the naval

Base:

located at the base of the spine, or tail bone area

GENERAL INFORMATION

Your body and therefore your personal Chakric system is closed by nature. And, as in any closed environment the healthy functioning of each is dependant upon the health of the whole, and visa versa. So how does the system become unbalanced? The simple answer is through the curves that life sometimes throws at us. Often is is a result of learned behaviours and beliefs that create inhibitions and limitations. Sometimes it is through accidents or abusive sitution, even as a result of abusive habits. Although the causes may vary the results are all the same. That being limited access to life energy.

In the event of a blockage in the energy system the body will circumvent this one chakra and rearrange its natural flow pattern in order to have access to the amount of energy it requires in order to survive. For a temporary 'fix' this may work, but if not corrected this can and will lead to physical, mental or emotional dis-ease or distress.

Your body is an amazing creation and will do just about anything to stay alive, it will even consume its own muscle tissue, when it must, in order to live. With each closing off and re-routing of this energy, parts of the phyical, emotional and spiritual bodys lose contact with life force and or access to each other. As a result our health on all levels suffers and life itself, becomes disjointed. This in turn creates a life experience that is unbalanced.

Actively working within the energy field with an intention to balance these areas of experience and reclaim parts that have been divorced can re-establish a greater sense of peace and harmony in life. It also has a tendency to 'take the pressure off'. Remember, that caught in each of these chakras is stored emotional energy. And when current experience activates or necessitates the participation of a particular chakra, if it stores old emotional memory, then instead of accessing the chi available to experience the novel in the present, what you access instead is the stored emotional memory. And when the chakra opens you have an infusion of fear, or pain or whatever is stored there, instead of confidence and pride.

This active movement toward a healthier way of interacting with life can be accomplished in many ways.

MEDITATION

Meditation is one way of achieving this goal. And there are as many vaiations of meditation as there are people who practice. They range from Tai Chi and Yoga through to audio tapes of guided meditations. My recommendation of deciding which one is more practical for you to use personally is to 'know yourself' and then choose one that is more aligned with your nature. Meaning, if you are a tactile, physical person then some of the more physically oriented forms of meditation are more appropriate for you. This would include Tai Chi and Yoga. On the other hand if you are more cerebral by nature then guided meditation would probably be the most effective means to enter a meditative state.

Remember to 'know thyself' if you are using guided meditation. Take into consideration any personal 'stuff' when choosing a guided meditation. I you are fearful in enclosed spaces then choose a meditation that is designed to take you out into a meadow or a garden, not into a cave. Know what you enjoy and head in that direction. Although this would seem to be a common sense thing, I have learned that common sense is not all that common. Know your comfort zones and work within them for now. This isn't the Olympics and there is no final exams. The first step is to develop a sense of safety and comfort, allowing yourself the opportunity to build memories of these experiences over a prolonged period of time. Most of us have lived a life where both safety and comfort are only a wish and not a reality. So begin your Meditation experience with providing some things which you have always desired.

Many people 'tackle' their spiritual walk in a very aggressive manner. My friend, if peace is what you are searching for it will not be found in aggression. I encourage you to be more self-aware and provide for yourself the simple comforts in life. Use the spiritual tools in a gentle manner. Be assertive by knowing what it is that you really want and gently move in that direction. Don't begin this voyage, or the next step of this voyage, with the idea that you are broken and need to be fixed. You are not now nor have you ever been broken, at the very most you are burdened or hobbled by memory. On a soul level you are as perfect as you have ever been. What we are all searching for is peace, bear that in mind when you gently move forward. That crazy world is demanding enough and when you miss being 'demanded of' you can always turn your attention back out there. For now create an build your sacred space as an oasis of joy and love, peace and harmony, by carefully selecting only those things which will nurture the desired experience. In Hebrew there is a saying to "Surround yourself with beauty so your eye can remind your heart". Sometimes is it difficult for our hearts to remember those places of beauty so it is our responsiblitly to place reminders of them out in the open so that the memories are triggered when experiences in life trigger everything but.
