WHERE HAVE ALL THE GRANDMAS GONE? In the dim and distant past When life's tempo wasn't so fast, Grandma used to rock and knit, Crochet, tat, and babysit. Whenever the kids were in a jam, They could always call on Gram. But today she's in the gym Exercising to keep slim. She's checking the web or surfing the net, Sending some email or placing a bet. Nothing seems to stop or block her, Now that Grandma's off her rocker.

Nana's response to this taunt:
"GRANDMA'S REPLY" I ain't gettin' older, I'm gettin' better~ I still know how to knit a sweater! Sometimes I wish I were a grandma, Even better, once more a Mamma. Babies are so soft and sweet And never smell of dirty feet. Diapers are just life's perfume, Crying, only angel tunes. Snug and warm upon my shoulder, Burping him, wants me to hold her. Sleeping, feeding, bathing, soothing, All too soon they go a schooling; But 'til then, their only teacher Prays to God that she will reach her, Prays that he will grow in Grace And know the joy of Jesus' face. Each and every moment brings Many new rememberings: Night-time prayers and dinner grace, Giggled whispers, chocolate face~ Mud pies, fishing in a puddle, Getting spelling all in a muddle; Braided hair and Spock haircuts, Mewling kittens, yapping mutts: Terratupas roll and scramble, Little rabbits hide in brambles; Cling to the edge of the mountain lip, Or into the lava you will slip! All these things, they come and go~ Left behind, only memories show~ But I would wish it all again, Though it meant the parting pain, As a dad or as a grandpa, As a mom or as a grandma, I would wish this blessin' on ya! ~June 12, 1999 ~Barb Dupuis (On the occassion of my 43rd birthday and the prodding finger of a friend) ;^)
