Kitbash Suggestions: Since MOST of these figures are from Horror films, and they lack the BLOODY touch that would suit them well, I suggest using the spattering technique with a red paint. And so far the only ones I've had trouble standing are Ghostface and Pumpkinhead, so there you might want to boil these rebels to teach them a lesson. ^_^
Freddy Krueger - A Nightmare on Elm Street
Figure: Freddy, the infamous clawed villain from the A Nightmare on Elm Street saga. Quite nice, few things could've been better, but to follow it up they should have made a "New Nightmare" Freddy as well., but thankfully with the 3rd series Macfarlane toys is releasing a sweet 18 inch talking Freddy! Done in a new mold, NOT a huge version of this that talks.
Accessories: I was hoping his hat could come off, but no such luck >_< Freddy comes with a miniature "puppet freddy" (at least I think that's what it's supposed to be, from the 3rd movie as I recall) and that which all in the series come with, a marquee with a theatrical poster from A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Comments:: First off, big thanks to Andrea for picking this up for me ^_^ This is the ever sought after BLOODY Freddy which became so in demand that MacFarlane toys recently began making him again, along with Leatherface and Jason. And considering the movies, it's no wonder why. Freddy is a little over 7 inches tall and has articulation at the neck, shoulders, waist, right elbow and right wrist for a grand total of 5 points of articulation. The craftsmanship on this is phenomenal, and the bloody detailing showing freddy's shirt covered in bloody, his hat has drops of blood, his claw spattered with blood and most alarming; his feet are bathed in blood. ^_^''While he's a sweet looking figure, I feel he should have had more articulation because most of all his poses he is capable of involve him pointing his claw in a manner such as to say :"Me and mah' cute lil' toy here are gonna have tons o' fun wit' ya'll". Which I might add is not a bad thing since well… that IS it's intent! But I feel her should be able to show off the claw in a more spectacular looking way. Nothing dire, not even a big deal. I just feel it would help. His clothes actually give off the effect of being blood soaked cloth, which is the kind of detail that if you stare at it too long it might attack you ^_^' While his right arm is cool (after all, it has… THE CLAW!!!!!!), his left is left somewhat boring in that he can do little or nothing with it except move it at the shoulder. And something I didn't expect, Freddy stands beautifully! Not teetering or anything! Yayyyyyyy!!!!
Overall: I'm ecstatic to finally have this in my collection, and if you're a fan of the Nightmare series I really suggest you pick one up. Other than less articulation than I would have preferred, I have no problems with him! His little friend though… ^_^'
Leatherface - Texas Chainsaw Massacre (coming ASAP)
Jason Voorhees - Friday the 13th (coming ASAP)
Eve - Species II (coming ASAP)
Patrick - Species II (coming ASAP)
Norman Bates - Psycho
Figure: The almost legendary, often mimicked, but never duplicated (because let's face it, multiple personalities are totally scaping the bottom of the plot writer's barrel! The only reason it worked here was because of Alfred Hitchcock ^_^), "Mommy did it!", serial killer from PSYCHO, Norman Bates! In series 2 he was the rarest of the line.
Accessories: Norman comes with the fabled wig, his kitchen knife, and the theatrical poster in disturbing skull covered marquee.
Comments: Norman is clad in his mother's dress with his pant legs and shoes poking out from beneath, and talk about going for the juglar; Norman is even wearing falsies… * gasp *. From head to toe he is about 7 inches tall and has articulation at the neck, shoulders, wrists, waist, ankles and right elbow for a total of 9 points of articulation. The resemblance between this figure and Anthony Perkins is incredible! He come poised to do some serious stab-work holding his knife in his right hand, his left poised to grab something. His wig is rubbery, is easily (and securely!) placed and removed from Norman's noggin adding a nice touch to this already cool figure. He stands… just fine thank you! ^_^ Always a welcome thing with these figures when they can stand well.
Overall: A cool figure, no doubt. But unless you're a manic completist or a HUGE Psycho nut, he's too much trouble to find. Tekyu likes much much, but there's darn little that MacFarlane makes that I don't like. ^_^
Pumpkinhead - PUMPKINHEAD
Figure: That awesome monster of vengeance, Pumpkinhead ^_^ I myself am a big fan of the movie and am extremely happy to see that MacFarlane toys made this particular item.
Accessories: Awww… poor Pumpkinhead! He didn't get any accessories except his marquee & movie poster. Too bad, a human head or something would have added immensely to his boyish charm. :P
Comments: He is one gnarly lookin' beast! And at about 8 ˝ inches tall he towers over all the other figures in the series and has articulation at the shoulders which are on rotating hinged joints which make for a two for one deal on articulation, wrists, waist and thighs. He also has a bendy tail. Thing that bugged me about Pumpkinhead, was that it has no articulation at the neck. Another problem was, that mine absolutely could NOT stand up until I did the boiling trick on his legs, but it only took 2 tries and now he stands perfectly. On the whole those are the only truly bad things I can say about this guy! The detail is, as usual, superb. And his massive height (keep in mind that he's lurching over somewhat) makes Pumpkinhead hard to miss, definitely not for the faint of heart or those who get nightmares easily. :P
Overall: This figure rocks!!! I honestly can't get enough of it! He's nasty looking as all get out and tall ^_^ Tall, dark and gruesome tells it pretty straight. HIGHLY recommended.
Ghostface - Scream
Figure: The serial Stalking killer from the Scream trilogy. Wes Craven seems to be a popular guy with this series. :P Turns out THIS is the second version, the first run came with a poster for SCREAM while the second one come with a stupid one which says "GHOSTFACE" on it and shows a shot of the costume's face with a greenish tint. Unfortunately the SCREAM version is rare. Why? I know not, all I know is that it is ridiculous and besides I don't recall ever hearing the stalker called "ghostface".
Accessories: Comes with knife, cellular phone and move marquee that either is for the movie SCREAM or the second run, which has GHOSTFACE.
Comments: Very nice, but what would have made it better would definitely been more work on the feet and cloth draping from its forearms instead of plastic. Ghostface is a little over 7 inches tall and has articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist and ankles for a total of 10 points of articulation. Ghostface is a very cool figre to make, however it sufferes from odd foot construction, and the strips of plastic hanging down from his forearms made of plastic really can end up getting in the way and looking very odd in certain poses. These factors throw ghostface off balance and I've tried modifying his feet 10 times already and am quite frustrated. One other thing (I could've sworn I saw a figure that had it), the voice changer should've also been included, it may or may have not come out with the first run. And the head though it CAN move slightly, is heavily restricted by the draping plastic coming down from the mask /hood portion of the costume.
Overall: Though I really liked SCREAM, the figure disappoints in various ways and continues to do so with the change in marquees. This is by no means a bad figure, it puts most action figures to shame, but as for the usual standards Macfarlane toys has, this doesn't come through as I'd hoped. But with time and some minor modifications to it, Ghostface will rock. And if anyone wants to trade a ghostface for a scream marquee, LET ME KNOW!!! Heck I'll buy it off ya ^_^' SERIOUSLY!!!
NOTE: The modifications mentioned I've been working on are the following: Blood spatter, it made Freddy, Jason and Leatherface EXTREMELY sought after (of course the was blood smearing along with spatter), but can be easily done with some red paint (choose yer shade ^_^) and a toothbrush. So far I've only done the knife with Christmas red acrylic paint (Acrylics are the only paints you should use on these figures!). Some got on his right fist and draping cloth, which were and accident… d'oh! But it didn't turn out that badly so I'll keep it there. ^_^ I might bloody him up more in the future and if I do I'll be sure to take pictures ^_^ The other modification I'm working on is his feet, since mine can't stand for long I'm been trying to change his feet so he'll be more stable, that has been a thankless crusade >_< For the moment I have him leaning up against the now bloodied fireman that came with Agent Scully on its gurney. For some reason, it seems quite suitable ^_^
Eric Draven - THE CROW
Figure: Brandon Lee's farewell performance was incredible, and he gave birth to an awesome character and now figure. A both touching and action packed movie, which captivated people everywhere and fueled the fire for the comic book series (on which it was based ), both sequels and the TV series. This magnificent figure is a pride to have in my collection.
Accessories: Eric comes with his crow companion, his black guitar, a black plastic base and his poster replica in skull laden marquee.
Comments: The crow in al his glory is one fantastic figure to behold. Eric stands a little over 7 inches tall and has articulation in his shoulders, neck, wrists and thighs for a total of 9 points of articulation. The big problem with Eric is his trouble standing. He cannot stand very well (if at all) without his base. And even then there is a challenge with keeping him on it in a way that he will not tip over, not a problem that time & effort or a couple squirts of hot glue won't fix. Moving on, Eric's basic pose is that of him walking with his arms out at his sides and made to look like he does on the movie poster. However unlike the movie poster, Eric carries his guitar and has his crow perching on his right shoulder. The guitar is cool, because the strap allows you to have Eric handle it in a number of ways. My personal favorite is have the strap go over his left shoulder, have the guitar facing front with his left hand holding the end of it. The problem you may face here is trying to keep both the strap AND the crow on him which can be difficult depending on how you do it. The other problem would be the crow on his shoulder falling out of the pegs it is supposed to stay in, easily fixed with some adhesive putty or for a more permanent solution try hot glue.
Altogether, this like other figures is what you make it, so it's up to you as to what you want to do with it and how you want it to look. That's the kind of thing which makes these figures so appealing ^_^ Particularly this one.
Overall: When I saw this, I snatched it up immediately. Definitely one of my favorite figures, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Totally sweet ^_^
Chucky - Child's Play 2
Chucky & Tifanny Deluxe boxed set - BRIDE OF CHUCKY
I don't have them yet, but I got a look at them in their box and they look awesome! Chucky comes with his usual knife and Tiffany comes with a bottle (the one she killed the couple with by throwing it into the ceiling mirror) and a cigarette. They look fabulous and of course they come with their marquee from BRIDE OF CHUCKY. A must have! I plan to get them and then I probably won't bother getting the Child's Play 2 Chucky since I prefer the Bride of Chucky version anyway. ^_^
