CHAPTER ONE
Gary admired his new black and orange colored Team Rocket uniform in the mirror. "Wow, I can't believe I'm part of Team Rocket!" exclaimed Gary. He opened up his closet door and pulled out the shirt, jeans and boots that he used to wear, and threw them in the garbage. "The old Gary is now dead...no more wimpy cheerleaders..." he said. He smiled and walked out of his room. Since he was new to Team Rocket, he had to get teamed up with a partner, and a special Pokemon because he got rid of his old Pokemon. I wonder what Pokemon I'm going to get, he wondered. He made his way up a long hallway, and met a couple of other Team Rocket members on the way. A TR member dressed in a white uniform helped Gary to get to the main room where he would meet with the "Boss" and be paired up with a Pokemon and a partner. They got to the main room. Gary looked around the room. It was
pitch black, except for one or two small lights on the other side of the room. The TR member in the white uniform smirked and walked out of the room, leaving Gary alone. Gary looked around. "Hello?" he said, looking around again. Suddenly he heard a door opening
behind him. He turned around. A man in a black suit stood in front of him, wearing a large TR badge on the front of his suit that said "Giovanni." Gary knew what the badge meant, it meant that the man was... "The Boss? Are you the Boss?" asked Gary. The man nodded his head. "Yes, I am..." he said flatly. He turned around and motioned his hand towards the door. "Come with me..." he said. Gary obeyed and followed Giovanni up another hallway. They passed a room filled with
cages and tanks with Pokemon in them, most of the Pokemon were unknown to Gary. Giovanni opened a door at the end of the room and walked in. Gary followed. Giovanni sat down at a large desk that had two other TR members at each side sitting in chairs. He glanced at Gary. "Sit down..." said Giovanni. Gary did as he was told, and sat down on a chair in front of the desk. There was a moment of silence, then Giovanni
crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair. "You are the grandson of the great Professor Oak, am I correct?..." asked Giovanni. Gary nodded his head. "Yes...I-I am..." said Gary, trying to hide the fact
that he was nervous. "You will be very useful as a member..." said Giovanni. He turned his head to a female TR member beside his desk. "...This will be your
partner, Gary...meet Duplica..." Gary got up from his seat and walked over to the young woman. He shook
hands then sat back down. Giovanni turned his attention back to Gary. "From my understanding...you have already beaten the Elite Four?" asked Giovanni. Gary nodded. "Y-yes...last year...I've had the
title of League Master for a while, sir..." said Gary. Giovanni scratched his chin. "Hmmm, if we had a member that is a Pokemon Master...who knows what we
would have the power to do..." interupted Duplica. Giovanni got up from his seat. "Come with me, you two..." Giovanni said, looking at Gary and Duplica. Duplica shrugged. "And I was just getting comfortable...the Boss is always in a hurry..." said Duplica, winking. Gary ignored the young girl and followed Giovanni through another set of halls. "Why did I have to get stuck with a girl?" Gary mumbled, looking around the hallway. Where are we going? he
wondered. Giovanni stopped in front of a huge steel door, he took a key out of his pocket and opened it. The three of them walked inside the dark room. Giovanni then stopped in front of a large glass window at the end of the small room. He smirked and looked at Gary and Duplica. They walked over by him in front of the glass. Behind the glass was a large room with
several ripped up Pokemon dolls and broken furniture.
Giovanni snapped his fingers. A second after that, a Pokemon of some sort walked in the middle of the room behind the glass. It was wearing what looked like some armor, but the Pokemon was unknown to the two young
members. "What the heck is it doing?!" Duplica screamed as the animal's eyes started glowing a bright red. Gary peered into the glass. There was something familiar about this Pokemon. Then he remembered. "That's the Pokemon I saw when I battled at the gym a couple of years ago!" said Gary. He remembered how it beat his Pokemon effortlessly. Giovanni laughed. "So, this isn't your first time meeting my Mewtwo, is it?" said Giovanni. "Mewtwo? Is that what that thing is called?" said Gary, looking at Mewtwo. "So this is our Pokemon?" asked Duplica in amazement. Giovanni nodded his head. "Yes it is...but I warn you that it is very powerful..." said Giovanni, glancing at Gary. "I'm counting on you to look after Mewtwo, you have more
than eight badges so you should be able to handle it..." Gary nodded his head. "You can count on me..." said Gary. Giovanni pulled a purple Pokeball out
of his pocket and handed it to Duplica. Duplica looked at the purple ball with a confused look on her face.
"Did you paint this Pokeball that color?" she asked. Before Giovanni could answer, Gary snatched it from Duplica. "It’s a Masterball! It's the only kind of ball you can use on a Pokemon this powerful!" said Gary. "That's correct..." said Giovanni. He looked in the window again. Mewtwo stood still in the middle of the room. Giovanni smiled, then handed a folder full of papers to Gary and Duplica. "I'm counting on you two to complete your first job..." Giovanni said,
turning around and leaving the room. Leaving Duplica and Gary alone with Mewtwo. Mewtwo has been uncontrollable the last couple of weeks... Giovanni
thought to himself. He remembered when Mewtwo escaped from the TR lab on New Island 3 years ago. "I'm not going to let it happen again..." he muttered. "...Hopefully I can trust Gary to be able to handle Mewtwo." Gary pulled out the papers from the folder and read them. "What does it say?" asked Duplica. Gary paused, then handed the papers to Duplica. "It says here that we have to sneak into the Starr Co., the newest rival of Silph Co., and steal the blueprints of the building..." said Duplica. "...What would the boss want with those blueprints?" Gary shrugged. "Giovanni is a genius...it must be something important..." he said. Duplica nodded in agreement. "Maybe we should rest up and start tomorrow..." suggested Duplica. Gary nodded, and headed to his sleeping quarters. Just before Gary opened the door of his room, Duplica ran up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. "What is it?" Gary asked rudely. "I've got a question..." "What?!" Duplica gulped. "Didn’t you notice how evil that Mewtwo looked?" "How can a Pokemon look 'evil?'" asked Gary. "Well...will you be able to handle it?" asked Duplica. Gary ignored her. He took his key out of his pocket and tried to open his door. "Go
away...I have some thinking to do..." Gary said. He walked in his room and quickly closed the door. "Why the heck did I get stuck with that annoying girl?" Gary mumbled. He sat on his bed and put his fingers through his hair. "Why did I join Team Rocket in the first place?" he asked himself, even though he already knew the answer. One of the only reasons why he joined Team Rocket was to beat his rival, Ash Ketchum. Since they were old enough to talk, they had been friends. But once they were 10 years old, and were able to start their Pokemon adventures, they competed against each other until their friendship was destroyed. All they wanted to do then on was be better than the other.
"I know I'm a Pokemon Master, and I have the skill to beat Ash..." He paused and leaned his head against his pillow. "...But his skills keep on improving, and unless I do something, he will beat me." He got an idea. "Maybe I could use Mewtwo...I'll test out its power by commanding it to..." Gary smiled evilly. "Kill Ash Ketchum..." Meanwhile, Duplica had heard everything that Gary had said by putting her ear against the door. She felt shocked and numb. "Ash? Gary is going to have Ash killed?" Duplica said, her hands shaking. "Why would Gary do something so...so horrible, why does he want to kill someone?" She paused and something clicked in her head. "Ash
Ketchum? The one who helped me get my Ditto back...oh no, I can't believe it!" Suddenly, her mind was filled with memories from her past. She remembered when she dressed up as Ash, the time when Jessie and James
broke into the House of Imité. (What happened to those two anyway?) She remembered when, with Ash's help, got her Ditto back. She had a crush on Ash at the time, but it seemed that he was interested in Misty. Duplica respected that, those two were meant for each other.
But if she didn't do anything to stop Gary, Ash would be gone for good. Duplica suddenly heard Gary's door open. Oh no...gotta hide! thought Duplica. She ran down the hallway for cover so Gary wouldn't know she was eavesdropping. She hid behind a table in the hallway and watched Gary casually walk by. "I have to stop him..." she said in a determined tone of voice. She had a gut feeling that it wasn't going to be easy, Gary said that Mewtwo was really strong. "But why would he even want to hurt Ash?" Duplica wondered. She waited until Gary was at the end of the hall, then followed him. Gary walked to the room that Giovanni brought them to earlier, Mewtwo's room, and walked inside. Duplica stood outside of the door. She couldn't let Gary see her. She took a quick peek inside the room. Gary was talking to Mewtwo, and
detaching it from a bunch of wires and chains that reminded Duplica of a dog chained inside a cage. Duplica listened to what Gary was saying to Mewtwo. It sent chills down her spine. Gary told the evil Pokemon to find Ash and kill him, then once that was done, hide the body in a forest where animals would eat him, leaving no evidence of the boy. "Gary's mad! He's cracked, he's insane...killing someone, that's going way too far!" Duplica said to herself. "But why does Gary hate Ash so much?" Mewtwo’s eyes started to glow a bright blue. Then, to everyone's surprise, the Pokemon talked. "I will grant your request...I already know Ash Ketchum, I have a little unfinished business
to attend to..." it said. Gary seemed a little confused. "What, you already know Ash?...Well, it doesn't matter, kill him anyway." Gary said. Duplica gasped. "What the...what's going on here?" she screamed. She quickly covered her mouth and prayed that Gary didn't hear her. She looked into the room one more time. Mewtwo was gone. "Oh no, I'm too late to stop it now!" she said, horrified.
CHAPTER TWO
Ash walked warily into his room. He was competing in the Pokemon League again, but had to train at the Plateau this year and was staying in a
hotel with Misty. He looked around the room, his window was broken and Misty was nowhere in sight, not to mention the lights were out, covering the room in shadows. "Pika pikachu..." said his young Pokemon
companion. (Something doesn't seem right here...) Ash
understood what his Pokemon was saying because he had been with it so long. Ash nodded. "Yeah...you're right Pikachu...this is creepy, Misty’s gone and the window is broken, she could have been kidnapped..." said Ash. He walked to one of the light switches and tried to turn the lights on. He cursed under his breath as he flicked the switch, as the lights didn't turn on. "The
lights don't work...how am I supposed to feed the other Pokemon?" Pikachu's ears started twitching.
"Pika pika...chu?" he said. (Do you hear that?) Ash spun around. "Yeah...what is it?" A loud dripping noise was coming from the little kitchen around the corner. "Pika chu, pika pi!" (C'mon, let's go see what it is!" said Pikachu. "Uh, I don't think that's such a good idea..." said Ash in a worried tone. "Chu pi!" (Don't worry...I'll protect you!) said Pikachu, doing a pose like he was Superman. "Yeah, yeah, Pikachu. Cut it out...you win. Let's see what it is..." Ash said. Pikachu shrugged and followed his master into the kitchen. A horrible smell, worse then a Muk, floated through the air as they entered. "Chu! Pika chu pi!" (Where is that fetid smell coming from?) yelled
Pikachu, plugging his nose. Ash plugged his nose too, then looked down at his Pokemon. "Huh? What does 'fetid' mean?" Ash asked. "Pi. Pika chu ka." (It means 'rotten.'") Pikachu said in reply. "Pika cha." (I read it in one of Misty’s books.) Ash smiled. "Wow...my Pokemon is smarter then me...who knew?" Pikachu
looked around. (Why don't we look in the cupboards and drawers. Maybe that sound is coming from one of them." Pikachu suggested. "It's highly unlikely that such a sound can be coming from a drawer, but guess we'll look anyway." Ash said. He walked over to the
microwave and opened it up. There was an old piece of pizza and a napkin, nothing unusual. Pikachu opened a drawer and dug out all its contents. He peered around the kitchen again and decided to look in the garbage. "Maybe that dripping noise is coming from the faucet..." Ash said. He looked at the faucet. It wasn't dripping at all. Where was that dripping noise coming from? Pikachu walked up to the mini refrigerator. (The smell is coming from here, I think. I looked everywhere else, it has to be in here.)Pikachu said, pointing to it. He noticed that a yellow
post-it note was sticking out from under the refrigerator. Pikachu picked it up and read it. In big, red, splotchy letters, it said, "I'm here. You can run, but you can't hide." Pikachu began shaking and dropped the letter on the floor. Ash, who was digging through a cupboard, turned his attention to his
shaking Pokemon. "Pikachu, what's wrong?" he asked. (The...Ash...get your butt over here!) Pikachu yelled. He looked down at the letter on the floor. "Don't be so rude." said Ash, picking the letter up and reading
it. He put the letter on the counter and picked up Pikachu. "It's okay, buddy. Anyone could have wrote that letter. I saw that in a movie once. You never know, maybe Misty is playing a joke on us." Ash said.
(But that broken window...the broken lights? I don't think Misty would ever go that far...would she?) Pikachu whispered. Ash pondered for a moment. "I dunno. The worst Misty has ever done to me is hit me over the head with her mallet or call me names." He
paused. "Maybe Gary is behind this." Suddenly, something groaned inside of the refrigerator. Pikachu jumped behind Ash and shivered. (What was that!?) screamed Pikachu. Ash started to worry, too. "I dunno. It-it has to be a wild animal or Pokemon!" said Ash. He was feeling dizzy now because of the horrible smell. (I can still smell whatever that smell is...)
Pikachu slowly walked up to the refrigerator and grabbed the door handle. (Okay. On the count of three, I'll open the refrigerator, and we’ll see what's in there.) said Pikachu, a sweat drop rolling down his red cheek. Ash nodded weakly. (One...two...) Ash held his breath. (Three!) Whhooooooosshhh! Pikachu pulled on the handle and the refrigerator door swung open. Inside lay a dead animal. "Ahhhhh!" screamed Ash. The smell was unbearable now. He covered his nose with his sleeve. (It's a...it's a...) said Pikachu in horror.
"It's a dead pig." Ash gasped. Pikachu ran to the garbage and vomited. The pig was hanging upside down in the refrigerator. It looked like a piece of roadkill just picked off the road. There was a
weird, acid green liquid coming out of the pig's nose.
"Who would do such a sick deed like this..." said Ash. He backed up from the refrigerator and stumbled on the floor, covering his mouth. He felt as though he would vomit, too, from the smell. Suddenly, heavy footsteps were heard only a couple of feet away. Ash quickly spun around. At the corner of the kitchen stood a strange shadow. He could tell it was not human. Ash's face turned pale as the large thing walked up to him. It's eyes glowed a bright, eerie blue. The shadow raised what looked like an arm, and Ash suddenly felt the inside of him burn. He screamed and grabbed his
stomach. Pikachu looked up from the garbage and screamed. (Ash! Are you okay?!) yelled Pikachu. The shadow turned its head towards Pikachu. Its eyes started to glow white, and Pikachu felt himself being lifted into the air. (It's a Pokemon...a Psychic Pokemon!) Pikachu screamed. The shadow lifted its arm again. Pikachu was thrown into the wall, knocking him unconscious. "Pikachu..." said Ash weakly. He rolled to his side and looked at the shadow. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" asked Ash. The shadow walked closer to Ash. The moonlight shone on him through the
window, revealing a 6 foot tall monster with a long tail, grayish-white skin, and long arms with three fingers. "It was you that broke into this room, you were the one who wrote that letter, you were the one that killed that pig...what did you do to Misty?!" screamed Ash. The monster let out a weak laugh. "You don't remember me...do you?" asked the monster. His voice was deep, but he was not talking with his mouth. He was talking telepathically. "That doesn't answer my question!" yelled Ash. "What did you do with Misty?!"
"That feeble human is at my lab under my psychic control. Oh, don't worry, I won't hurt her...yet." said the monster. Ash sat up and looked at the monster. "Who are you? Why are you here? Why are you doing all these horrible things?" The monster's eyes started to glow blue, and Ash felt himself being lifted into the air. "What are you doing to me?!" yelled Ash. "I've come all this way to destroy you, foolish boy. I've been captured by humans who thought they could contain me, and escaped..." said the monster. Ash started shaking. "Why? Why do you want to kill me? What does this have to do with me?" Ash demanded. The Pokemon raised its arm and Ash was thrown into the wall beside Pikachu. Ash opened his eyes and looked at his unconscious Pikachu lying beside
him. He turned his head back towards the monster. "Who are you?" asked Ash. The monster sneered. "I am Mewtwo." said the monster. Ash sat with his back against the wall. Mewtwo? The name sounds familiar...where have I heard it before? Ash thought to himself. Mewtwo walked closer to Ash and grabbed the collar of his shirt. It was almost incredible that Mewtwo's long, thin arm could hold Ash's weight. "I see you don't remember me, boy." said Mewtwo evily. Mewtwo's eyes lit up again. Mewtwo, using his psychic powers, projected a memory into Ash's head.
* * *
"It's useless Ash...as long as Mew and Mewtwo are fighting, no one else will stop!" said Misty. She watched as Mewtwo's clones attacked the original Pokemon.
* * *
"What's going on?" Ash asked. The memory continued to play in his head.
* * *
Brock watches the battle between Mew and its clone, Mewtwo. They fire orbs at each other, but they don't seem to do damage to the other. Yet they
continue to fight. Suddenly, Ash sees himself running inbetween the two Pokemon. As the two Pokemon fire another orb at each other, it hits Ash and he is turned to stone. "ASH!" screamed Misty. She covered her face with her hands and started crying.
* * *
Ash blinked, he remembered everything now. The storm, New Island, Team Rocket dressed as vikings, the captured Nurse Joy, the other three trainers, the clones, Mew...he remembered everything now. "Mewtwo!" said Ash angrily. "I thought you were going to live a peaceful life with Mew and the clones!" Mewtwo, still holding Ash by his shirt, laughed again. "Mew? She was extremely foolish...thinking she could change me, she was too weak, so I killed her a long time ago..." Ash gasped. How could Mewtwo do such a heartless thing?
Mewtwo looked at Ash. "You remember me...tell me where the Elemental Mews are...or else I'll go after your sister and your mother." Ash shook his head. "No, you can't hurt them!" Ash then tried to look confused. "What are you talking about, I don't know anything about the Elemental Mews." Mewtwo slammed Ash against the wall. Hard. "Stop toying with me! I know the truth!" Mewtwo yelled. Ash screamed in pain. His lip was now bleeding and it seemed that his arm was broken from the impact with the wall. Ash wiped the blood onto his shirt with his good hand. "I know you cloned Mew, and created the Elemental Mews to destroy me!" yelled Mewtwo. "I can enter your mind and find the information for myself if you do not tell me...and trust me, that won't be very pretty." Mewtwo stopped in front of Ash and smiled. "Well...I have a little surprise for you..." said Mewtwo in a dangerous
voice. He clapped his hands twice. What is he doing? Ash wondered. His question was quickly answered. He
heard heavy footsteps coming from his bedroom. A large animal walked in and stood by Mewtwo. "I can't believe it..." Ash gasped. "It's another Mewtwo!" But it didn't look exactly the same as Mewtwo. It was different. It was slightly taller then Mewtwo, and it was more muscular. The color of its skin was slightly darker then Mewtwo's, and instead of having just a
tail, it had a blade on the end. Another difference that Ash noticed was that the monster had blood red eyes instead of purple ones like Mewtwo had. "Meet Mewthree." said Mewtwo. Mewthree's eyes started to glow green, and Ash felt himself being lifted into the air yet again. Ash knew what was going to happen next-Mewthree was going to read his mind. I can't let Mewthree know about the Elemental Mews, I just can't! thought Ash. Ash felt the inside of his head burning, like a migraine. Ash felt his memories being read like a book. Mewthree knew almost everything about Ash now, he knew about Ash's love for Misty, the knowledge of the Elemental Mews, and his hate towards Mewtwo and Mewthree including his rival Gary who once tried to kill him when they were 13 years old with a Scyther.
The pain in Ash's head got worse and worse, then Ash passed out on the floor beside Pikachu. Mewthree stopped the mind reading, then turned to Mewtwo. "What information did you find?" asked Mewtwo. "I discovered information on the Elemental Mews, but not their
location." said Mewthree. Mewtwo seemed disappointed about not finding their location. "If we knew what they looked like, we could locate them ourselves! Tell me what you know, Mewthree." said Mewtwo. Mewthree nodded. "There are 3 Elemental Mews. The strongest is Golden Mew, then there's Silver Mew, and last, Copper Mew. There's also another Mew that the human boy created called Aqua Mew. But Aqua Mew does not have the power to fight, only the power to heal." Mewtwo thought for a moment. "Hmm, interesting." he finally said. "Off to the lab!" The two Psychic Pokemon flew out of the room and out the broken window. Ash weakly opened his eyes. He glanced around the room, then at his injured Pikachu. "Pikachu, Misty, Mom, Kim...what's going to happen to them?" Ash moaned. He tried to reach out to his Pikachu, but his arm felt
like it weighed a ton. Everything around him went black, and he slipped into unconsciousness.
CHAPTER THREE
Kim Ketchum's mind was dancing with images of Pokemon as she quickly packed her backpack with everything she would need for her Pokemon adventure. She read through all the items in her head. "Clothes, check. Toothbrush, check. Food, check. Money, check. Game Boy...ooops, don't want to forget that." She ran over to the other side of her room, and opened her junk
drawer. She found her Game Boy with several other games that went with it and stuffed it into the front pocket of her backpack. She looked over at the small birthday present from her dad, it was a diary. She picked up her lucky blue pen and started writing.
Dear Diary,
My name is Kim Ketchum, you probably don't know me. My dad gave this diary to me today for my birthday to keep track of my adventures as a Pokemon trainer. Oh yeah, you don't know Ash Ketchum. Do you? I didn't think so. When Ash was 4, my dad and Ash's mom divorced. He's not my real brother
though, he's only my half brother. My dad married my mom a little later. But she died shortly after I was born. It's really sad, I never knew her. My dad has some pictures of her. She's really pretty, with long brown hair and electric blue eyes. She was really tall too, almost like a model, but my dad said she was more of an angel then a model. I guess all angels have to go to heaven. My dad says I look like her, I have her lightning blue eyes. I think I look more like Ash. I dress like him too. Ever since I found out that I had a half brother when I was 7, I've wanted to be just like him in every way possible. He's almost 14 years old and he's already competed in the Pokemon League. He
hasn't won any yet, but I bet he will soon.
-Kim Ketchum
All of a sudden, there came a knock from her door. "Honey, are you in bed yet?" said her father. He opened the door a couple of inches. Kim quickly dropped her bag on the floor and hopped under the sheets of her bed. "Yes, Daddy!" she yelled back. "Okay, just checking." he said again. "Good night, Kim." "Good night, Dad." Kim said back. She closed her eyes and fell asleep, dreaming about the adventures she was going to have as a Pokemon trainer.
* * *
"KIM! Hurry up, sleepyhead! If you don't get up NOW, then you won't have time for breakfast! Don't forget about the boat going to Pallet!" yelled Kim's dad from the bottom of the stairs. Kim slowly opened her eyes and yawned. "Wake up!" yelled her dad once
again. "I'm coming, I'm coming! Don't have a Horsea!" Kim said sleepily as she walked down the stairs in her housecoat. She walked into the kitchen. Her dad, Mr. Ketchum, was sitting at the table. He was drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper like he always did in the morning. "It's about time, sleepyhead." he said, taking a sip of his coffee. "Yeah, and good morning to you too." Kim said, rubbing her eyes. She grabbed a couple of chocolate Eggos from the freezer and put them into the toaster. "So, kiddo, getting excited about going to visit your brother and becoming a Pokemon trainer?" her dad said, taking yet another sip of his coffee. "Yeah, of course I am!" Kim said with a smile. Her dad handed her a part of his crossword puzzle from the newspaper. "You're the Pokemon expert in this house, help me out with this crossword puzzle." he said, putting his reading glasses on. "Here's a tough one. What's a 7 letter
word for this rodent Pokemon of the electric type?"
"Gee, that's easy! It's a Pikachu!" Kim answered. He wrote it down on the puzzle. "Thanks!" he said, putting his pen down. He checked his watch. "I
think you should get into some clean clothes while you wait for your Eggos. You have to leave in less then an hour to catch the boat to Pallet." Kim nodded, then got up from her chair and walked back upstairs. "I can't wait to see Ash." she thought to herself as she opened the door to her messy room. "Whoops, forgot to clean up my room last night from all that packing."
She went over to her drawers and pulled out a pair of jeans with a black t-shirt and green gloves, just like Ash wears. She pulled the t-shirt over her head and struggled to put on her jeans. She pulled on the green gloves, and admired herself in the mirror. "One thing's
missing..." Kim looked over to her bed. "Aha! My hat!" Kim walked over to her bed and put the red and white hat on. It didn't look exactly like Ash's Pokemon League hat with the symbol on it, but it was close enough. "Honey! Your Eggos are ready!" Her dad called from the bottom of the stairs. "Coming!" Kim yelled back. She quickly ran down the stairs and into the kitchen. She ran to the toaster and grabbed her Eggos and stuffed them in her mouth. She quickly ran back upstairs, grabbed her backpack, then ran out the door. "See ya!" she yelled. Her dad watched her as she ran off over the hill. He took off his glasses and placed them on the table. "Now I have no one to help me
with my crossword puzzles!" he groaned.
* * *
"Yeah! I'm free at last!" Kim yelled out. A cool breeze blew through her black hair and cooled the back of her neck. She looked around from the small
hill. The volcano, the many buildings and shops, the Pokemon lab, the boats and the many crowds of people were familiar to her. She walked down the path from her house. "This might be the last time in months that
I'll ever see home." she said to herself. She smiled, looking over the bay. "I'll show Dad that I can be the best Pokemon trainer and that I'm not a little girl anymore! I'll show him!" She walked to the boat terminal and paid for her ticket. "I'll be glad
to take a break from this city." Kim said to herself.
Then finally, she was on the boat to Pallet Town.
CHAPTER FOUR
Kim looked over the edge of the boat. "I can see land!" she exclaimed happily. It had been hours since she got on the boat, and she was getting
excited to see Ash. She took off her hat and danced
around on the deck of the boat singing whatever came to her mind. "To be a master! Pokemon master! I will be writing! A brand new chapter!" she chanted happily.
Suddenly, a gust of wind blew her hat right out of her hand, and with a failed attempt of trying to grab it, it flew into the water. Kim leaned over the railing on the deck. She cursed and watched her hat sink into the water. She put her fingers through her hair and sat down against the railing. "What am I going to do now? My dad gave me that hat!" She looked over across the deck where a bunch of girls were laughing. Kim knew all of them from school. But there was one girl that
Kim really hated. Her name is Denise Andrews, the most popular girl in the whole school, or at least in Kim's opinion, the biggest jerk in the whole school. She quickly got up from the railing, and calmly walked over to her backpack which was lying 15 feet away from Denise and her friends. "Hey tomboy!" yelled out one of the girls. "When was the last time you brushed your hair?" Kim stopped walking. If there was one thing she
couldn't stand, it was when people called her a tomboy. Kim turned around to face Denise and her friends. "I brushed my hair this morning!" Kim said irritated. They all looked at each other and started
laughing again. "Well, you could have fooled us!" said Denise. She slowly walked over to Kim, with a pathetic smirk on her face, then put her hand on Kim's shoulder.
"So...you're going to Pallet?" she asked in a fake nice voice. "To get a Pokemon...right?" Kim looked at her and nodded yes. Denise came up closer, then, with a fast arm, grabbed Kim's jacket and pulled it over her head so she couldn't see. "Good for you, training Pokemon sucks!" And with another quick jerk of her
arm, she pushed Kim into the floor. Kim struggled to get her jacket off her head. Kim heard Denise and her friends laughing in the distance. "Stuck-up bimbos." She muttered when she successfully pulled it off. Kim threw her backpack in a angry rage. She didn't realize the mistake she had just made until it was too late. "Hey! Watch where you're throwing your things, little twerp, your backpack hit my head!" yelled out someone.
Kim quickly turned her head to the direction the voice. Behind her stood a tall man with spiky brown
hair and small eyes. He held her backpack in his gigantic hand, then with a jerk of his wrist, he threw it right back at Kim, nearly missing her head. Kim sat still, paralyzed with fear. "I'm sorry!" she blurted out. He came up to Kim and grabbed the collar of
her jacket, pulling her up close to his face. Her feet dangled underneath her body. "See that it doesn't happen again, punk." he said. He let go of her collar
and she fell hard onto the wooden deck. A young boy was sitting on the deck. He had seen everything. Kim
was sitting on the deck, cursing. "Another one of Bruno's victims." he said to himself as he extended his hand to the girl. Kim grabbed on and he pulled her up. "Are you okay?" he asked. Kim looked at him blankly. "Did you see what that guy did to me!" she
stammered. She held on to the collar of her jacket with her left hand. "Yeah, I saw everything. I don't see blood so I think you're going to be okay." he said smiling, revealing braces on his teeth. His brown hair
waved in the wind. Kim noticed that he had bright blue eyes. She had never seen anything so blue before. It was nothing compared to her mother's eyes, but his
eyes looked as blue as a crystal. He walked over to her backpack which was just sitting in a clump on the deck and passed it to her. "Why did he act that way?" Kim asked. "Oh, that's Bruno from the Elite Four. He's been in a funk ever since he was beaten in a Pokemon battle." Kim paused and stared. "Elite Four?!" she repeated. "Yup." said the boy. He began to walk off, but the girl followed him. He looked back, then kept on walking. "Excuse me, what's your name?" Kim
asked. The boy stopped and turned around. "Huh?" he said. "What's your name?" she repeated. "My name is Luke." "My name is Kim." said Kim, giving Luke a friendly smile. Luke turned around again, and walked off. "I need to go, bye Kim. Don't get into anymore trouble!" "Okay...bye!" said Kim. He walked around the corner of the deck and disappeared through a crowd of people. "Wow, he was nice, that's a quick way to get a new friend." she whispered to herself. Kim stopped and sat on a nearby seat.
CHAPTER FIVE
The boat docked at Pallet. "I'm finally here!" Kim yelled at the top of her lungs. She walked off the
boat, and found the long trail that lead to Mrs. Ketchum's house. It was just a 5 minute walk anyway. It was pretty dark out, but it was no big deal. She put her backpack on, put her fingers through her hair and made sure that her shoes were tied so she wouldn't trip on them. "What a perfect night." she said to herself. She admired the moon shining brightly through the trees. She was so used to living in the city, that's why she loved it here so much. "It's quiet." she said happily. All a sudden, a growling came from behind a bush. It started getting louder and louder. Kim stopped dead in her tracks. "Oh, spoke too
soon..." Then, a whimpering was heard behind the bush. A Growlithe ran out limping on one of its paws. "Oh my! It's hurt!" Kim said, picking up the little
animal in her hands. It began to howl loudly. She looked at its paw. It was swollen and burned. "What happened little fella, did you burn yourself?" she asked. She placed him back on the ground on his side so she could dig through her backpack for some bandages. "Oh, great." Kim mumbled to herself, realizing that she had left them at home. "What am I going to do with you now?" She looked at the poor Growlithe, then picked him up in her arms again. "Professor Oak lives here in Pallet, maybe he can help." The young Growlithe began howling again, this time much louder. "It's okay...I promise I'll get you to Professor Oak." she reassured it. "Growl! LITHE! GROWLITHE!" yelled the Growlithe. "Lithe! GROWLITHE!" (It's coming! I'll be fine as long as you get me outta
here! Hurry, it's coming!) Kim just stood still, helpless, she couldn’t understand what the Growlithe
was trying to tell her and it seemed important. "GROWLITHE, GROWL!" continued the Growlithe. (It's coming, it's coming after me!) "I'm sorry, but I don't understand you." Kim said. The Growlithe became dead silent as footsteps were heard coming a couple feet away. "Growlithe, growl...growl!" whimpered Growlithe. (Charmeleon, he's here to get me!) She quickly turned around to where the footsteps were coming from. Growlithe jumped out of her arms and started to bark. Suddenly, a Charmeleon lept out of the bush! "CharMELEON!" yelled the lizard-like monster. He ignored Kim and turned his head to Growlithe. "Char. Charmeleon, char." he said in a deep voice. (Aha, I knew you couldn't run away from me. You are going to suffer the same fate like the rest of your family.) The
Charmeleon licked his lips. He was hungry. Growlithe began shaking. The Charmeleon reared up and tackled Growlithe. "GROWL! ITHE!" yelled Growlithe as he tried to run away, but Charmeleon knocked him down, causing Growlithe to land on his stomach...hard. He spat up a bit and got back up. Kim just stood there. She had to do something! She ran up to a nearby tree and pulled off a branch. Suddenly, the Charmeleon let out a blast of fire out of his mouth, setting fire to some trees and bushes. A huge cloud of black smoke and hot ashes began to form as the fire began to spread quickly. "Oh no!" Kim covered her face from the burning cloud, but it was useless. "Growlithe? Where are you?" Kim yelled out. "Growlithe? Where are you?" She finally found him. He was lying on the ground covered in blood from
Charmeleon's attack. "Growlithe!" She ran up to the injured Pokemon and picked it up. "Oh...I promise, I'll save you." Kim quickly ran away from all the smoke and found Pallet Town. The Growlithe seemed to be in a deep sleep in her arms. She found herself in
an open field and frantically looked around. "Oak's lab should be on a hill somewhere. Hopefully he'll be able to make you better." she yelled out. She looked around again, this time spotting a large hill with a
house on it. "Aha! That should be Oak's lab." she said, pointing at it. She ran through the grassy field and made her way to the hill. The Growlithe began to wake up. He looked around, then started to howl
loudly. He couldn't stand the pain of the burns and wounds to his paws and body. "Shhh...you'll be okay." Kim reassured the young Pokemon. "Hopefully..."
CHAPTER SIX
Kim finally arrived at Oak's lab. She knocked on the door. "Hello!" she yelled out. "Hello!? Anyone
home!?" An old man came to the door, wearing pajamas and Pikachu slippers. He wiped his eyes. "It's 11 o'clock. I did not order pizza or anything...go away." he said sleepily. He began to close the door, but Kim stopped it with her foot. "Excuse me...but are you Professor Oak?" Kim asked. The old man turned around. "Why, yes I am." he said. "Well then..." Kim looked down at the Growlithe in her arms. "Can you help this Growlithe?" Professor Oak looked down at the wounded
Growlithe. His eyes widened. "What the heck happened!?" he exclaimed. He grabbed the Growlithe from Kim's arms and ran into his lab. He switched
some lights on, then placed the weak Pokemon on an examining table. "It all happened like this." Kim said. "I just got off the boat heading here, then I was walking on the trail to my brother's house..." Kim was interrupted by Prof. Oak. "You're Ash’s sister, I suppose?" he said as he examined the Growlithe and tied some bandages around him. "Yeah...how did you know?" Kim asked. Prof. Oak wiped a bead of sweat off his forehead. "Your brother talks about you all the time." he said. Kim watched as Oak carefully placed bandages on the Pokemon, then attached some suction cups with wires that linked to a machine on the
Growlithe's face. "Okay...well, I was heading to my brother's house...and all of a sudden I saw a Growlithe! Its' paws were burnt, and it looked kind of beat up. Then, a Charmeleon came out of nowhere and
attacked the Growlithe." Kim continued. Professor Oak turned to face Kim. "Good thing you brought the Growlithe here right away. It just might have a chance to survive after all...but I'm not really sure." said Professor Oak. Kim looked back at him. "What do you mean, 'I'm not really sure?'" she asked. Professor Oak sighed. "Well...it was badly burned, especially around his legs and stomach. I'm afraid that it might swell so bad, all the blood vessels will compress, stopping his circulation." he said. Kim's face turned white. "It's going to die?" she asked. "I'm not very sure. Why don't you go home now and come back tomorrow? Mrs. Ketchum is probably very worried right now." said
Oak. Kim nodded her head and said goodbye to Growlithe before heading back outside. She walked through the same field, and the same trail right to Mrs. Ketchum's house. The trail looked different now, most of the trees were burnt down, but the good thing was that most of the fire had burnt itself out. The last bit of fire was crackling in the distance. "Wow...I never knew that one Pokemon could do that much damage in so
little time." Kim said to herself. She made it up a little hill on the trail, then finally made her way to Mrs. Ketchum's house. "I'm here..." she said. She ran up to the door and opened it up with a house key she was given a while ago. She peered into the dark house. "Hello?" Kim yelled. She walked in and closed the door behind her. She turned a light switch on and dropped her bag. "Hello? Ash? Mrs.Ketchum?" she yelled out
again. Footsteps were heard coming down the stairs. Kim turned around. "Mrs. Ketchum!" Kim yelled out happily. "Kim? I thought you weren't coming! What took you so long?" asked Mrs. Ketchum as she gave Kim a big hug. Kim looked up at Mrs. Ketchum. "I had a little bit of trouble on the way here." Kim said. Mrs. Ketchum
looked at Kim's face, which was covered with black soot. "Maybe you should take a bath, you're filthy!" said Mrs. Ketchum. Kim nodded her head in agreement. Then she looked around. "Where's Ash? He promised we would go swimming..." Kim said. "He never came home this morning. He's probably very busy training." said
Mrs. Ketchum. "Oh! He promised!" Kim said glumly. Mrs. Ketchum patted her on the back. "I'm sorry honey, I knew how excited you were to see Ash." said Mrs. Ketchum. Kim picked up her bag and started to walk up the stairs where the bedrooms and bathroom were located. "Wait!" yelled out Mrs. Ketchum. "Ash left you a birthday present before he left last week! It's in the kitchen!" Kim dropped her bag and ran down the stairs to the kitchen. She quickly looked around and saw a large blue box with a note on it. Kim picked it up and read it.
Hi Kim!
I've been wanting to give this to you for a while. Hope you like it! ^_^
From your half brother,
Ash.
Oh yeah, one more thing! Pikachu says hi and hopes you'll have a great time becoming a Pokemon trainer.
Kim placed the note on the table and opened up the box.
CHAPTER SEVEN
"Oh!" Kim said, glancing at the box. She pulled out a Pokemon League hat and a blue and white jacket. "Ash's stuff? Why did he give this to me?" asked Kim. Mrs. Ketchum was standing at the other side of the kitchen and smiled. "Ash got a new hat for being in the Top 10 in the Pokemon League this year, so he gave you his old one. He grew out of his jacket." said Mrs. Ketchum. Kim smiled and put the hat on with the jacket. "Now I'll really look like Ash." said Kim happily. She looked at her reflection in the kitchen window and admired the new hat. "I think you should take a quick shower and go to bed. You'll have to wake up early if you want to get a Pokemon from Prof. Oak." said Mrs. Ketchum. Kim nodded and ran upstairs. She took off her clothes and put them on a pile on the bed in the extra room. The extra room was used when Kim came over, or when Ash's friends came over for the night. She then grabbed two towels, walked into the glass doors around the tub and
turned the shower on. "I can't wait for tomorrow." Kim said to herself. She poured some shampoo in her hand and massaged it into her hair. "And I can't wait
to..." She paused and accidentally knocked over the shampoo bottle on the side of the tub. "I wonder how that Growlithe is doing..." Her good mood was suddenly spoiled. "Will the Growlithe survive?" She finished her shower, walked back into her room and put on her
pajamas. She took out her diary and started to write about her day, and about the cute boy she met on the boat. When she finished, she yawned and put her diary away. She crawled under the covers of her bed and quickly fell asleep.
* * *
She opened her eyes. Everything around her looked distorted. "Hello? What's going on? Where am I?”Kim wondered. She walked around in what seemed to be space. She could now recognize large moons and planets. "What's going on? I'm floating in thin air...I'm still able to breathe? Is this a joke?" she wondered. She looked at her feet and recognized a huge green and blue planet. "Earth? What is it doing way
down there?" She looked around again. "Is this a dream? If it is...I'll pinch myself and this will all go away." Kim's voice echoed through the universe. "No, don't!" said a familiar voice. Kim spun around to face her brother Ash. "Huh? Ash...what are you doing in my dream?" Kim asked. "And why don't you want me to pinch myself?" Ash looked back at her with his brown eyes. "I have something important to tell you..." he said calmly. Kim looked back at him. "Why is it so
important?" she asked. Ash smiled. "You have great power...more then you can possibly imagine." he said. Kim looked back at him. She asked in a confused tone, "What are you talking about?" Ash just smiled. "You'll know when the time is right..." His body suddenly
dissolved into thin air, and the large universe suddenly changed into a burning inferno. Kim's body was covered in flames, yet she felt no pain. "Huh? What's going on? This is just not making any sense!" She looked around in confusion. The outline of a body became visible through the burning flames. She looked
at it as it was coming closer to her. "Hello? Who are you?" Kim yelled out. She noticed a second shadow near the first one. "What is going on? Who are you? Are you human? Or something else?" Kim yelled out. Ash's body became visible. His eyes were black, and his face was as white as chalk. Ash's body was surrounded in a glowing blue aura. He slowly floated closer to Kim, no emotion showing on his pale face. There was a shadow floating in the air behind him. "Why...it's me..." said Ash in a flat voice. "Ash..." His voice suddenly
changed into a deeper voice and he fell to the ground. His body disappeared again into thin air. The other shadow approached Kim, with glowing blue eyes. It lifted what looked like its arm into the air. Kim could see that this arm had a little hand with suction cup-like fingers. The shadow began to glow blue. Kim felt herself being lifted high into the air. "Who are you?" Kim yelled out to the shadow. The shadow walked closer to her, and his face and body became visible. "I am Mewtwo..." he said in a deep voice. Kim gasped. She had never seen a Pokemon so tall before. It was at least six feet tall. An evil smirk spread across Mewtwo's face. "Why are you here? Why are you in my dream?" Kim yelled out. Mewtwo began to laugh softly. "I am here to kill you." he said. His eyes began
to glow a bright blue. Kim felt her chest and lungs burn. She screamed in pain. Pain? You're not supposed to feel pain in a dream! she thought as the burning sensation spread through her body. Mewtwo smiled, an evil smile. He paused as his body began to turn white. "Goodbye, Kim. If this doesn't kill you, there are other ways." An energy orb appeared in his hand, and he launched it straight at her.
* * *
"Ahh!" Kim quickly sat up in her bed. Her body was covered in sweat, her heart was beating madly and she was shaking. She wiped her forehead with her
hand. "Whew...it was just a...a nightmare..." She looked out her window. A bunch of birds flew by and the sun was shinning brightly. Kim looked down at her watch. "It's 7 o'clock! I'm going to be late!" she
screamed, forgetting about the dream. She ran to her bag, dug out a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans and quickly slipped them on. She ran out the door. Being late really runs in the family, she thought. If I
don't get there soon...I won't get a good Pokemon!" She paused and thought for a second. Maybe that Growlithe will be okay...I hope so!
CHAPTER EIGHT
"Hi Professor!" Kim said, running into Oak's lab, breathing heavily due to the run all the way to Oak's place. "What Pokemon do you have for me?" Kim asked. She looked around at all the other trainers who
were admiring their Pokemon. "My Charmander is the best Pokemon here!" said a young trainer. A girl was standing next to him holding a Pikachu. "Oh yeah? My Pikachu can kick your Charmander's butt!" she said. Another trainer came up to the other two holding a Venonat. "Oh yeah? Professor Oak got this one just for me!" he said, pointing to his Venonat. Kim glanced at another group of trainers showing off their new
Pokemon. One girl looked very familiar, with cherry blond hair and bright blue eyes. Kim gritted her teeth. "Denise Andrews..." she said in disgust. "What the heck is she doing here?" Denise suddenly turned
around, looking over at Kim. "About time you showed up Kim!" said Denise, twisting a lock of hair around her finger. "I'm sorry...but it looks like there's no more Pokemon left!" Then, she smirked and walked off. Kim just stood still. "No more Pokemon?" Kim said glumly. She paused. "Hey...wait a minute!" She turned to look at Denise playing with a Clefairy...her new Pokemon. "I thought she said Pokemon training sucks..." Kim decided to ignore Denise and ran over to Professor Oak. He was handing out Pokedexs and telling people how to care for their Pokemon. "Professor Oak, Professor Oak! Are there any Pokemon left?" Kim
asked. Prof. Oak shook his head. "I'm sorry, all the Pokemon have been taken." he said. Kim looked at him again. "What about the Growlithe I brought you yesterday? Is it going to be alright?" she asked. No response came from Oak. "Is it going to be alright?" she repeated. Oak grabbed Kim's arm and brought her into a room. The young Growlithe was hooked up to a
heart monitor. He was lying on a flat bed, his eyes
closed. "Beep...beep...beep." went the machine. Kim walked over to the Growlithe. He looked weaker then it
did before. She pet his little bandaged head with her hand and walked over to Prof. Oak. A tear ran down her cheek. "It's going to die...isn't it?" Kim asked softly. Oak put his hand on her shoulder. "Yes...I'm
afraid so..." Kim felt so bad. "What happened if I ran faster? What happened if I got here quicker...would it have survived?" Kim started to cry. "It's my fault...it's all my fault!" she cried out. "Kim. It's not your fault, it was too weak. It couldn't have survived anyway. You can't hate Mother Nature for that." he said softly. Kim looked at him. "Mother Nature?" she asked. "What do you mean by that?" Oak
looked at the Growlithe. "The Charmeleon that attacked that Growlithe...well, Charmeleons are meat eaters and they're prone to do that. You can't help it. You may not think Mother Nature is fair, but that's how it goes." said Oak. Kim wiped the tears off her cheeks and let out a weak smile. "When are you going to get some new Pokemon?" Kim asked. Oak paused. "In six months or so..." he said in reply. Kim groaned. "That's half a year! By the time I get my first
Pokemon, Ash will have probably beaten the Pokemon League!" She kicked her backpack, which was lying on the floor. "Why do you want to be like your brother so much? You look like him, you dress like him, you even
act like him!" said Prof. Oak. Kim shrugged. "I dunno...he's just my role model, I guess." Kim paused. "He's not my real brother though, he's only my half brother." she added. She told Oak about her father and
Mrs. Ketchum, and about the two getting a divorce. "So my dad got remarried, and that was how I was born." Kim continued. He seemed pretty interested at her family story. "But...my mother died a week or two after I was born." Kim said. She began to cry again. "She disappeared and her body was found in a lake." Kim wiped her face with the sleeve of her jacket and sighed. "They never found who did it." Oak patted her on the back. "I'm sorry to hear that, Kim." said Oak. "But just because your mother died doesn't mean you can't follow your dreams." Kim nodded. "But it's hard, I don't even have a Pokemon yet." Kim said. Oak
scratched his chin and smiled. "I'll make you a deal. I'll try to get my grandson Gary to catch a Pokemon for you when he comes back from the Indigo Plateau in two months." said Prof. Oak. Kim's face lit up. She
smiled and hugged Oak. "Thank you, Prof. Oak! Do you think I'll ever be a good Pokemon trainer?" Kim asked. "I'm sure you will be!" he said in response. Kim left the room and went back home. She felt a little better
now having that heart to heart talk with Oak. But one thing was still bothering her, it was the Growlithe. It was sad that it was only a pup, so it barely had a chance to experience life.
CHAPTER NINE
Kim knocked on the door to Mrs. Ketchum's house. "Mrs. Ketchum!" Kim yelled out. She knocked on the door harder, this time hearing footsteps. The
door opened up, and Mrs. Ketchum was standing there. She had a broom in one hand, and her Mr. Mime was holding her other hand. "Kim! What are you doing
here? Did you get a Pokemon?" asked Mrs. Ketchum. "Nope. Oak was all out of Pokemon." Kim said glumly. "Oh, I'm sorry Kim..." said Mrs. Ketchum. She
paused, then smiled. "I've got an idea, Mr. Mimie and I will fix you something to eat." She put down her broom and headed to the kitchen. "Do hamburgers sound good to you?" asked Mrs. Ketchum, holding a bag of frozen meat in her hands. "Or would you like me to make sausages or meatballs?" Kim scratched her head. "I don't know, I don't want you to go through all the trouble of making me something to eat." Kim said.
"Hamburgers it is!" said Mrs. Ketchum. She took out her knife and cut a chunk out of the meat. She rolled it into a ball. She pointed to a mini grill on the other side of the kitchen. "I got that the other day
from next door. My birthday is a couple of days before your birthday." said Mrs. Ketchum. Kim looked down at her feet. "Next door...isn't that where that Gary Oak lives?" Kim asked. "Yeah...of course, why do you ask?" said Mrs. Ketchum. She washed her hands, then threw
the meat on the grill. It sizzled madly. She shut the lid. "Just wondering..." Kim said, as she hopped off her chair. "I'll go wash my hands now." Kim walked upstairs and washed her hands in the bathroom sink.
"When you're done eating, we should go for a walk to the lake and go swimming." Mrs. Ketchum suggested. "It's really warm out today." Kim ate the last bit of her burger and nodded. It'll get my mind off Pokemon for a while, Kim thought to herself. "Okay...let's go!" said Kim. She ran into her room, and changed into her bathing suit. Then, she put a yellow t-shirt on with a picture of a Dewgong on it with the words "Seel World" above it, and a pair of black shorts. She walked into the bathroom and grabbed a towel. By
the time Kim got downstairs, her 'mom' was also ready to go swimming, wearing her red bikini with flower bows on the side. She tossed her towel over her shoulder and looked at her Mr. Mime, who stood behind Mrs. Ketchum. "Mime?" asked Mimie in a high pitched
voice. Mrs. Ketchum looked at her Pokemon and smiled. "You can come too, Mimie." she said. Mimie let out a happy yell and jumped in Mrs. Ketchum's arms. They all left.
