Jose and the Golden Egg

By: Mewshura E-Mail: Mewshura@aol.com
CHAPTER ONE
"It's not fair!" The small boy screamed. "Why won't you let me go on a Pokemon journey?!" Jose was fighting with his parents about going on a Pokemon journey. "Because your father and I care about you." His mother replied calmly. "If you really care about me you'd let me go on a Pokemon Journey." He said back. "Your mother is right Jose, we can't afford to lose you. When your sister went on her Pokemon journey she was caught by Team Rocket and was killed." His father said with a frown on his face. "You don't know that! You just assume that because she was never seen again!" He argued. "Jose, your sister is gone, she was killed, she's not coming back." His mother said. "Why won't you even let me have a Pokemon?" He demanded. "We know you would run off in attempt to save your sister but she is gone, you have to face the truth." "I can take care of myself!" He said as he stormed out of the room. His mother and father exchanged worried glances. He got to his bedroom and sat on his bed and just spaced out. Then he turned his attention to a picture on the wall. It was a picture of his sister. Her grey eyes were shining brightly as she held up her Pokemon license, her golden hair glittering in the sun. He sighed and lay down on his bed. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. When he woke up it was morning. He forced himself out of bed and walked out the door. He stepped into the kitchen. "Your father wants you to go out in the corn field and see if any Caterpies got the corn and check for holes." "Sure mom." He put on his shoes and walked out the door. When he got to the corn field he started to inspect the cornstalks. "Nothin' here. We got lucky this time." He turned around and started to walk out of the corn field when he heard wings flapping. He froze. He watched as an enormous shadow arose in front of him. He could make out the huge wings, the sharp claws, and the long tail. He forced himself not to turn around. When he finally did, he caught the slightest glimpse of a golden light before it disappeared into the sunlight. He went to investigate where the creature had risen. He saw no unusual marks. He started back to the house when he tripped and fell on something. "Ow! Stupid rock!" He yelped. He turned to see that it was not a rock but a golden egg. "Wow! So that's what the creature was doing. Hey, this looks like a Pokemon egg! Mom and Dad will never let me have a Pokemon. I guess I'll sneak it in the house and care for it until it hatches. Then I'll go and try to rescue my sister. Oh, Kylara." He put the egg in his jacket and went back to the house.
CHAPTER TWO
Jose ran all the way from the cornfield to his house. When he got home he shot through the hall and into his room. He quickly looked for a place to hide the egg. He set the egg down and covered it up with his bed blankets. Just then, his mom entered the room. "What are you doing?" She demanded. "Oh, uh, just trying to make my bed." He said nervously. "Do you need me to help?" His mother started to grab the pile of blankets. "NO!" He quickly shouted as he took the blankets back. "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. While you were out, your friend Lucca called. She wanted you to come over and check out her invention, thingy, whatever. And also, did you see any holes or Caterpies?" "No, Mom." "Good, then make your bed and I'll send you over to your friend's house with Farli." "Ugh!" Jose complained. Farli was a Meowth that surprisingly, his parents were able to teach how to talk. Whenever Jose did something wrong, the Meowth blurted it out to his parents. "Not Farli." He whined. "Sorry, but your father and I take any chances. You might run off. Now make this bed and I want no further discussion from you." "But Mom..." "No butts." And she quickly left the room. "I hate Farli." He said. He grabbed up his sheets very carefully so the egg wouldn't crack and set it on his bed. "Hmm, what should I do with you." He set the egg aside and started on his bed. When he finished, he grabbed the egg and hid it in his jacket. He went to the bathroom so he could quickly run a comb in his black hair and then he left for Lucca's house with Farli walking beside him. "Have you gained weight? You're bigger than when I saw you last." "U-uh, yeah." Jose stammered. "Why do you always tell mom and dad what I do?" He asked Farli. "It's fun!" Was all the Meowth said. Jose was disgusted at the thought of any creature taking pleasure in snitching on other people. They walked and walked and they finally got to Lucca's house. "Bye Farli!" He shouted. "I'm not going anywhere until I find out that Lucca's parents know you're here and keep an eye on you." Jose knocked on the door and Lucca's father answered. "Lucca's up in her room working on her invention." "Thank you." Jose replied. "Bye Farli!" Jose repeated. The Meowth snorted and turned back to head for home. "I'll never get that cat." Jose thought. He stepped into the house and ran upstairs to Lucca's room. Just then he felt something. " Uh, oh." He thought. He looked into his jacket. The egg was hatching! "How does it hatch so fast?!" He thought, then ran into Lucca's room. "Haven't you heard of knocking?" She asked, running her hand through her red hair. "Sorry, but look at this!" He said, setting the golden egg on the table. "It's already hatching!" The egg's crack split and soon the whole egg was covered with spots. The shell collapsed and a golden Charmander came out! Jose was astonished. He bent down closer to the Pokemon and looked into its eyes. He felt a wonderful sensation for a moment. Then there was a strong hunger in him. He grabbed a sandwich that just happened to be in his pocket and gave half to the Charmander. He ate the other half. Then he heard a voice. "My name is Varena." "Who said that?" He said, startled. No one's mouth had moved, not even the Charmander's. "Who said what?" Lucca asked. "I did, my name is Varena! I am the golden Charmander in front of you."
CHAPTER THREE
"Did-did you hear that?" Jose asked Lucca. "Hear what? What are you talking about?" Lucca gave him a long hard stare. "She can't hear me. Only you can." The voice said. "I must be dreaming. There's a little voice inside my head talking to me, Lucca." "What? You've cracked man. Now I've got to get back to my invention. Then I'm going to study that Charmander." "Okay Lucca. Maybe I'm just really upset." "You're not upset! This is real! I can only talk to you in your mind. I am Varena." The voice said again. "Uh, Lucca, the Charmander is talking to me in my mind." Jose insisted. "Okay, whatever. Yep, I believe you." "You want proof? I'll give you proof." Jose looked at the golden Charmander. "Wave your tail if you can talk to me in my mind." The Charmander waved its tail. "Let me try." Lucca said. "If you can talk to Jose," Jose looked at her. "In his mind. Then say Charmander." The Pokemon didn't move. "Well, what are you waiting for?" Jose asked. "I do not trust her. You are my master." Varena replied. "Aaarrrgh!" Jose shouted. "You do not like me. I have upset you. I'm sorry." Varena said. "Just, do what she tells you this time okay?" He ordered. "All right, I will do what you ask of me." "Charmander." She said. Lucca acted like she didn't care. "You gave me enough proof while you were talking away just a second ago. Either that or you have gone insane." She laughed. "Very funny. Hey, what's your project anyway?" He asked. "I'm making something that will make Pokemon evolve faster. I just need something to test it with." She looked at Jose. "What are you looking at? Wipe that smirk of your face!" "How about your golden Charmander?" "Oh, no. We don't even know if it evolves yet. You're not using my Pokemon for an experiment. What if it turns into an even stranger Pokemon?" "Pleeeeaaasssseee!!" She begged. "Okay, but I'm going to regret it. Varena..." "Who's Varena?" Lucca interrupted "Varena's the Charmander okay?!" He yelled, getting impatient. "Okay, okay. Geez. Come here, Varena." Varena stepped up. "Step on this platform." Varena got on the platform. Lucca switched a button on. "Okay, here goes." Everyone held their breath as Varena started to glow. They saw her shape changing, and then a bright light filled the room. Varena was now a golden Charizard, but, she was the same size!
CHAPTER FOUR
"It worked, it worked!" Lucca shouted with glee. "Well, sort of." They stared at Varena who now was a Charizard the size of a Charmander. "Wait a second." Jose said. "How am I going to hide this from my parents now?" "Jose. You now have a Pokemon of your very own. Sure we don't know if it has attacks or even how long it will survive. But you have a Pokemon. You can get revenge on Team Rocket!" "How will I ever be able to do it though? Now that I finally have the chance, my mind's a blank." "I could come with you and help." Lucca suggested. "Okay. But how are we going to leave?" Jose asked. "Leave it to me." Lucca said, staring at Varena. They hadn't noticed that while they were having their conversation that Varena had grown a lot. She grew the size of a Charizard in no time. The only problem was, she was still growing. "We have to act fast so Varena doesn't break the floor." Lucca said. "Try to get on Varena." "Oh no. You're not thinking of flying her are you? It's never been done before! It can't be done on a Charizard!" "Remember, Varena is no ordinary Charizard." Lucca pointed out. "How long are you guys going to be talking?" Varena told Jose. Lucca saw a weird expression on Jose's face. "What happened?" Lucca asked. "Varena says to hurry." They quickly climbed on Varena. Jose told her to ram the wall. "Brace yourself." Varena warned. They held on tight and felt themselves moving. They watched as Varena blasted through the wall. They had got out of the house! In one piece! "Woo hoo!" Jose shouted. It felt great having the air against his face. "This is fun." Varena said. "Hey. I heard Varena!" Lucca shouted. "You have gained my trust. Now you can hear me." They flew several miles. Jose told Varena to land. She obeyed. When they landed they made themselves forget about their old lives. This was an adventure.
CHAPTER FIVE
After walking for quite a while, Jose spoke up. "Hey, where's the nearest city?" "It's on the other side of the island." Lucca answered. "You've got to be kidding." "Nope. And you shouldn't have Varena fly so much." "Why not?" "It wears her out easily. Didn't you see her when we landed? She practically fell over with exhaustion. Besides, she has to grow to higher levels." "Excuse me?" "Well, if she's a Pokemon, she should be able to get stronger." "Well, where are we going to find some trainers around here?" "I don't know. Let's just keep on walking." They walked until they came upon a burnt house. They walked inside. Jose told Varena to keep a lookout. They explored the house. Jose saw a burnt water bowl that had printed on it 'Vaporeon.' He saw a broken television in the next room. "I wonder what happened to these people." he said to himself. "Jose! Come over here!" He heard Lucca shout. He ran over to where Lucca was. "Look at this." She pointed to a box that had printed on it 'Pokemon Box.' She opened it. Inside it was 8 Pokeballs, bandages, 1 Super Potion, and 3 Hyper Potions. "Wow! Look at all this stuff!" he shouted. He grabbed 5 Pokeballs and the Potions. Lucca grabbed the rest. "Wait. There's a drawer in it." Jose said. He opened the drawer. There was a Pokedex, 10 Rare Candies and $805 in it. "Wow! Now we can really get going!" he yelled. When they were about to walk out the door, Jose spotted a sign near the door. Jose read, "Team Rocket was here. Michael Norman burnt this house." Jose turned around and stared at Lucca. "Michael Norman is my uncle!" Jose gasped. "He is?" "Yes! He used to live with us but he left because he said he had found a job that paid a lot of money. A couple of days after that my sister was kidnapped by Team Rocket!" "That's heavy." Now Jose was even angrier. "My uncle betrayed us!" They walked out of the house and continued walking. It was getting dark and they slept on Varena for warmth. Lucca was awoken by what sounded like a Ponyta neighing. She silently got off Varena and walked towards the sound. What she saw she could never believe. There was a Rapidash that had got caught in a cage, struggling to get free. She walked towards it. When she got next to it she saw that it was no ordinary Rapidash. It had wings! She grabbed the Pokedex out of her pocket and pointed it at the strange Pokemon. "Pegachu, a flying unicorn Pokemon. It is said to be the evolved form of a Rapidash that has been near a Feather Stone. It also has many curious powers, including the power to purify water and air with its horn. This Pokemon was very abundant in old times. Now it has been hunted to extinction." "Then why is there one standing right in front of me?" Lucca thought. "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm trying to help you." She lifted the cage. The Pegachu looked at her, then nuzzled her. She petted its fire mane, then started to walk away. She looked back and saw that it was following her. It followed her all of the way back to Jose and Varena. When she got back on Varena, it did the same. She crawled over and got on it. "We must be the luckiest kids alive." she thought. "This is the most impossible thing to have ever happened. And yet, it did." She smiled and went to sleep on the Pegachu.
CHAPTER SIX
Jose slowly opened his eyes and yawned. He looked over at Lucca who was asleep on a strange Pokemon. A strange Pokemon?! "Lucca! Get up!" he shouted. Varena roused and opened her wings, causing everyone to fall off of her. Jose looked wide-eyed at the strange creature. It was annoyed, and neighed to show it. Lucca got off the ground, rubbing the back of her head. "What's your problem?" she asked. "What is that?" he asked, pointing at the lazy, winged unicorn beside her. "Oh!" she said, remembering the events of the night before. "This is a Pegachu. He won't bite." Varena looked curiously at Pegachu. Her eyes turned yellow. The Pegachu looked up in awe at her. "I've never seen anything like it." Jose said, walking in circles around it. "Of course you haven't!" Lucca threw her arms up in the air. "It's been thought to be extinct!" Suddenly, a strange rush of energy filled everyone. Jose and Lucca felt calmer and more focused. They didn't notice though. "He is a new addition to the team." Lucca said, patting the Pegachu's fire mane. The Pegachu neighed happily. "Now that that's settled, I'm hungry." Lucca said. Varena nodded in agreement. "Yes, I could use some sustenance too." Jose looked up at Varena, who was now about twenty feet high. She was huge! "Hey, Varena?" Jose asked. "Yes?" "How do you feel about flying? Do you want to try again?" Jose looked at her hopefully. Varena's eyes turned turquoise with excitement. "Whoa!" Jose said, startled by her actions. "Lucca! Did you see Varena's eyes turn color?" Lucca nodded. "I've noticed it lately. Her eyes turn a different color every time her mood changes." "Oh." Jose said, a little annoyed that he hadn't spotted it earlier. "Well, Varena, how about we give flying another try?" He asked, rubbing his hands together. Varena seemed to smile, and lowered herself so Jose and Lucca could get on her. The Pegachu neighed, and flew into the air. Varena extended her wings. With one mighty flap, she was airborne. She flew as fast as she could, with the Pegachu right beside her. He seemed to have no trouble at all, and was flipping with endless ease. "Show off!" Jose yelled. Lucca giggled. Varena stopped in mid-air. "Varena? You're not going toooooooooo!" Jose's sentence was not finished, because Varena was now flipping just like Pegachu. When she stopped, they were over a city, and Jose felt sick. "Land Varena! LAND!" he begged. "As you wish." she said, a little sad that she couldn't fly more. When they landed, Jose fell off. Lucca burst out laughing. "Looks like you're the one who needs help with flying." she said in a stiffled giggle. Jose made no response, and stood up. Varena's eyes turned yellow. "What is Varena feeling now?" Jose asked. Lucca thought hard, while her Pegachu landed gracefully next to Varena. "Curiosity." she said abruptly. Varena leaned forward, causing Lucca to fall on top of Jose. Jose groaned. "Thanks for breaking my fall." Lucca said. The Pegachu started to neigh. "What's so funny?" Lucca demanded. She quickly got off of Jose. He felt like his head was spinning. Varena went over to a tree and looked into it. Without warning, she let out a burst of fire, and burned the whole tree to a crisp. "Why did you do that?" Jose asked, rubbing his back. Varena's eyes turned blue. "Now she's happy." Lucca said, fixing her glasses. "For burning a tree?" Jose looked confused. Varena spoke up. "I did what I did out of instinct. Something just made me burn the tree." Varena looked closer at the fallen ashes. "I have defeated my first Pokemon." she said, her eyes turning bluer than ever. "What kind is it?" Jose asked, running to the ashes. "It's a Pikachu!" he gasped. He took out one of his Pokeballs. "Guess I should put this to good use. Pokeball, go!" he threw the Pokeball onto the small yellow mouse. The ball didn't even shake. "I got my first Pokemon!" he exclaimed. Varena roared happily and opened her wings, causing dust all around to circulate in the wind. "Don't make too much noise, Varena!" Lucca said, with her finger on her lips. "Not many people have seen a golden Charizard, I think." Jose nodded. "You're right. We should fly over to that mountain over there." Jose squinted his eyes. "At least I think it's a mountain." Lucca shielded her eyes from the sun and squinted too. "Yep. It's a mountain all right. Let's go, Pegachu." Lucca lifted herself up onto Pegachu's back. It was neighing in an annoyed sort of way, because of the dust that was stirred up by Varena. "Wait! I want to go into town to get some supplies. How are we going to hide these two?" Jose asked. Lucca thought for a bit. "Let's see if they'll go into Pokeballs." She suggested, getting off of Pegachu. "Varena, you're not afraid to go in here, are you?" Jose said, holding up the Pokeball as high as he could. Varena's eyes turned gray with confusion. "I can never get over how she does that." Lucca said. "I will do what my master bids me." Varena said, laying down. Jose threw the Pokeball at her, and she was sucked in. Lucca threw a Pokeball at Pegachu, and he was sucked into it, just like Varena. "Well, it worked." Lucca shrugged. "Let's go get our stuff."
CHAPTER SEVEN
They came to the outskirts of the town, and read a sign that said "Pewter City." "I've heard of this place before." Lucca said. "This town really loves rocks." Jose handed some money to Lucca. "Go buy us some food and a few bottles of water. I'm going to go check out the Gym." He turned his back to her, and started to walk forward. When he got to the Gym, he smiled. It was just like in the cartoon. Only, less cartoonish. He watched as a girl punched the wall near the door where you enter. "What's her problem?" he thought as the girl ran off towards the Pokemon Center. Jose climbed up a ladder on the side of the gym. He noticed on his way up that one of the windows was broken. "They need to take better care of this Gym." He said as he continued to climb. When he reached the roof of the Gym, he looked through a very small skylight. The Gym Leader was sitting calmly. He watched for a while before he saw the same girl that was punching the wall burst in. He noticed that she had changed her clothes. There was a huge bruise on her head, and she looked beat up. She said something but he couldn't hear clearly enough to understand it. He watched as they talked for a few minutes. The Gym Leader stood up. "Do they do anything but talk?" he said, as he laid down on the roof. He looked down in surprise as the floor of the Gym began to get covered by a layer of rocks. He looked at the girl as she barely escaped becoming a pancake by a boulder. They talked some more, and the girl crossed her arms. The Gym Leader grabbed two Pokeballs from his jacket, and tossed it aside. The Gym Leader threw a Pokeball and a huge rock snake Pokemon came out. "An Onix!" Jose exclaimed. "What's she going to use against it?" The girl threw a Pokeball, and a Squirtle came out. "A Squirtle? All right!" Jose loved Water Pokemon, but Squirtle was his favorite non-evolved water Pokemon. He watched with extreme interest as the two Pokemon battled. It looked like Squirtle was going to lose, but the Onix gave up when it couldn't crush Squirtle's shell, and was blasted in the face with water. "I knew Squirtle would win. It's one of the best Pokemon out there." Jose thought. The Gym Leader threw his second Pokemon, and a Flying Pokemon with sharp, serrated teeth came out. "Oh, shoot! An Aerodactyl! That girl is toast." The girl threw out a Pikachu. "A Pikachu? Against an Aerodactyl? Is that girl crazy? Everyone knows that Rock Pokemon aren't effected by Electric attacks!" Then Jose remembered the old times he used to share with his friend. She taught him almost everything he knew about Pokemon. He remembered that Electric attacks were super effective against Flying types. "That girl is smart!" Jose said as the Aerodactyl fell, paralyzed by a Thunder Wave attack. Then the Pikachu sent electricity through the Aerodactyl. "I wish I could battle Gym Leaders." Jose said, as the girl's Pikachu jumped into her arms. He felt something grab his shirt and pull him back. He turned to see a very angry Lucca. "What in the name of all Pokemon are you doing?!" she demanded. "Uh, I was just watching the battle." he said nervously. Lucca rolled her eyes. "On the roof? You could get into serious trouble. Now come on, let's get going!" Lucca threw a Pokeball that contained her Pegachu, and got on him. She helped Jose get on Pegachu, and in a few minutes, they were airborne. Pegachu flew towards the mountain they had seen earlier. He flew over it and landed on the other side. Jose immediately sent out Varena. "Well, this place seems to have no one around, so I guess we can crash here for a while. I'm going to take a nap." Jose sat against the wall of the mountain and fell asleep. Varena laid down next to him and closed her eyes. Lucca kept a lookout with Pegachu for anyone who might be coming. She watched and watched. A half an hour later, she heard the sounds of someone in pain. Varena was instantly up on her feet. Jose opened his eyes and groaned as Varena kicked dirt in his face. "Hey! What's the idea?" he said, slapping her huge leg. "Ssssshhhh!" Lucca said, and put her ear against the wall. Jose suddenly felt very angry, and he didn't know why. He looked up at Varena, and her eyes were a deep red. Almost as if she had fire in her eyes. Jose could hear laughing in the distance, and started to walk along the side of the mountain, towards the source. Lucca and the others followed close behind. They didn't find out who was making the sound, but they found a cave that led into the mountain. Jose put his back to the wall, and was as silent as he could be. Inside, he saw the girl who had the Squirtle being held by a member of Team Rocket. A tall member walked up to her and punched her in the face. "Team Rocket." Jose thought, as he filled with even more anger. He turned around to see that Lucca was gone. "What? Hey, where did Lucca go?" he asked. Lucca came running up to him with two tied-up Pokemon and a backpack. "Where'd you get those?" He asked. Lucca smiled. "These Team Rocket members aren't very smart, and don't guard very well." She untied the two Pokemon, which were a Pikachu and an Eevee. "I wish there was something I could do to help her." Jose said, as he looked at the girl again. "She seems familiar." Varena, who had more sense than Jose did, burst through the wall of the cave and started to roar angrily. She picked up one of the Team Rocket members and threw him against the wall. Jose covered his ears as the Team Rocket members screamed. When the screaming stopped, and the dust had settled, Varena grabbed the injured girl around the waist and set her in front of them. Varena's eyes turned blue. The girl looked at Jose and then at Lucca. Jose watched as she turned around to look at Varena. "She's going to scream." he thought. "Very loud."
