The Crash

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is one of the few depressing fics that I've written (mainly 'cause I feel like dog-poo today after doing about 40 math
examples for homework >.<;). Oh, and if this fic happens to cause someone to have a mental breakdown (even though I highly doubt it will), don't, I repeat,
don't sue me. Okay, that's enough of my blabbing. On with the story!
"See ya later, Mom! I'm gonna go play with Gary!" a 7-year-old Ash yelled to his mother as he grabbed his jacket and searched for his blue basketball. "Okay sweetie, but be careful!" his mom called to him as he ran out the door. "Hiya May! Can Gary come out to play?" "Sure," she started,
"Lemme get him..." She went inside. A few seconds later, Gary ran out the door, still struggling to pull his jacket on. "Hi Ash!" a 7-year-old Gary greeted him happily. "Hi Gary!" Ash returned the greeting. "Did you bring the ball?" Gary asked. "Sure did!" Ash held it up for him to see. "Yay! Let's play!" Gary ran out towards the sidewalk with Ash following him. "Okay," Ash called, "I'll throw the ball against the ground, and you run up and catch it! And then you bounce it back to me!" "Okay!" Gary got ready. Ash then heaved the ball against the cold pavement. It shot up into the air. Gary scrambled under the ball and it plopped into his arms. "Wow Ash, that went really high!" Gary exclaimed. "How high?" Ash eagerly asked. "Higher
than the house!" Gary pointed to his house. "No," Ash disagreed, "It was higher than the trees!" he pointed to the apple tree across the street. "No it wasn't! It was higher than...um...than..." Gary thought to himself for a while, but his friend finished his sentence. "Higher than the clouds!" Ash exaggerated as he pointed to the sky. "I don't think it went that high..." Gary's expression showed that he was very confused. "No," Ash started, "But it did go pretty high." "Yeah, it did." Gary agreed, and the confusion left his face. "Okay, now YOU bounce the ball!" Ash backed up.

Ash stared up at the ceiling of his room. Pikachu was next to him. "Pikachu, you still awake?" he asked quietly. "Pi." (Yup.) Pikachu answered.
Pikachu looked at Ash. "Pika?" (What's wrong?) Pikachu looked worried. "Pikachu..." he murmured, "...have I ever told you about my dad?" "Cha..." (No...) he replied. "Well, he's dead."

"Gary, my arms're tired of bouncing this thing!" Ash called. "Okay, let's roll it instead!" Gary picked up the ball and sat down. "I don't wanna
do that either." Ash leaned against a tree. "Wanna go fishing?" Gary stood up. "Hey, that sounds like fun!" Ash grinned that goofy-old grin of his. 10 minutes later, Ash and Gary were sitting by the creek with their fishing rods. Gary had his in the water already, but Ash was fumbling to get his worm on the fish hook. "Ow!" Ash cried and dropped the worm and hook. He
had cut his fingertip on the sharp point of the hook. "Hey, are you okay?" Gary looked worried. "Yeah, I'm fine," Ash shook his bleeding finger. "Hey, do you have a scab right now?" "Huh? Um...yeah, there's one on my knee. Why?" Gary asked. "How long have you had it?" "A day." "Okay, pick it open a little." "Erm...okay." Gary picked at his scab until it bled. Ash took his bloody finger and rubbed it on the bleeding spot. "There," Ash sat back down, "Now we're blood-brothers for life." "Really?" Gary's eyes widened. "Yeah, I saw it in a movie." Ash said. "Cool." Gary smiled. Ash looked in the murky water. "I don't think the fish'll be biting today." he remarked. "You're wrong, I got a bite!" Gary stood up and struggled to reel the fish in. When he did, a small tuna fish wriggled for its liberty on the end of
the line...and it stopped. "Naw, it's too small." Gary sighed. "Quick, put it back!" Ash went over to his line and helped Gary pull the fish off the hook. It fell onto the deck and flopped around for a while. Gary picked it up and dropped it into the water. "Did it get away?" Ash asked. Gary looked over the side. The fish lay there upside-down on the top of the water. It wasn't moving. "...yeah." Gary lied, "...it got away." "Okay, good." Ash stood up, "Let's go home."

Gary Oak was awake. He too was staring lazily at the ceiling. He did this every night. But he wasn't thinking about his parents. No, they've both been dead for 6 years. He was thinking about someone else's parent. And in the back of his mind, he thought about what he did to him...
* * *
"Wanna play with the ball again?" Gary picked it up. Ash sighed and said, "Okay, sure." They started to toss the ball, but Gary threw it too hard. "Hey!" Ash yelled as the ball rolled into the street. "Sorry Ash!" Gary ran out into the middle of the street and picked up the ball. "Hey, you didn't look both ways!" Ash called. "Hey, there are no cars! I'm fine!" Gary yelled. "Gary, get out of the street!" Ash started jumping up and down. "No! I won't!" he started laughing. At that second, everything felt like
slow motion. As Gary laughed, a huge green van approached behind him. Since Gary was so small, the driver didn't see him. "GARY, WATCH OUT!!!" Ash
screamed. Gary turned his head and screamed. The driver finally saw him and swung the car out of the way. The car spun around a few times and smashed
into the apple tree. Then everything seemed to explode in red.

Later that day, Ash sat under the big apple tree across the street from his house. He always sat under it when he felt alone or confused about something. He touched the bark of the tree. For some reason, there was a strange indentation in the tree, as if something had smashed into it. Nobody knew why...except Ash and Gary...
* * *
Gary lifted his head to peer at the wreckage. It was a mess. The twisted frame of the car was covered in what looked like splashes of deep-red
paint. The wheels were gone. It actually looked like the car had been turned inside out and twisted up by something. And beside what was left of the driver's seat, Ash kneeled there and peered through the window. "...Ash?" Gary took a step and stopped. "...that's my dad in there..." Ash said quietly. "Oh my God..." Gary covered his mouth in shock. "...you
killed my dad..." Ash muttered. "...no..." "...you killed him..." "NO I DIDN'T!!!" "YES YOU DID!!!" Ash screamed. His eyes were filled with hatred and tears. Gary stumbled backwards and started to run away sobbing.

"Well, if it isn't Ashy-boy sitting under that stupid old apple tree!" Gary taunted. "Oh, hi Gary." Ash sighed. "What a lame-o!" Gary laughed, "Don't you have any other friends?" "Yeah, I do." Ash replied, "But I need to be alone right now." "Whatever." Gary started to walk away. "Why do you do this to me, Gary?" Ash asked quietly. "Huh?" "I think I'm the one who should be making your life miserable. You killed my dad after all..." Gary froze. "...no I didn't." "Yes you did. And you know it. And I saw it. And if you weren't such a stuck up idiot and would've come out of the road, he'd still be alive today. And now you hafta live with what you did for the rest of your life." Gary looked down at his feet. "Oh, and one more thing." Ash started, "That fish died, didn't it?" "...yeah..." "Okay. But remember what you did to my life." Ash got up and walked home. "...see ya later."
"...yeah...see ya..."
