CHAPTER ONE
"Mom, I finished mowing the lawn." Ryoka said. "Can I have my allowance now?" She had been mowing the lawn across town to earn money. "Alright Ryoka." her mom sighed as she handed Ryoka five dollars. "Alright, I have enough!" she jammed her money into her pocket, ran out the door, jumped onto her skateboard, and zoomed down the street to her favorite store. "Well, if it isn't my best customer!" the jolly clerk laughed. "It...took...a...few...years..." she gasped, "But...I finally...have...enough to...shop...here...again..." "Well, I'm not that surprised with the way you spend money while you're here. It took a while to order all that stuff after you bought it all." the clerk pointed out. "Well, I'm not here to chat, I'm here to buy!" Ryoka said. "So, anything new?" "Oh yes! We just got...hang on, lemme find them." the clerk bent down to find the crate that they were stored in. "Ah-hah! Found it!" he lifted the crate onto the counter and pried it open. "Like I said, we just got..." he pulled one out. "Mew beanbags!" "Wow, I didn't know they made Mew beanbags!" she reached into her pocket. "I'll take twenty of them!" Ryoka looked up on the shelves for more Mew things. Of course, Mew stuff was packed on every shelf. In fact, Mew's little face was all over the store, or should I say, the MEW merchandice store! Yes, this store had nothing BUT Mew in it. Mew posters, Mew buttons, Mew stickers, Mew video-games, Mew dolls, Mew computers, Mew keychains, Mew pencil-sharpeners, Mew TV sets, Mew wallpaper, Mew mousepads, Mew Chia-Pets, you name it, they had it! In fact, the only thing they DIDN'T have was a live Mew! After a half hour in the store, the shelves were empty. "Thanks a lot." Ryoka smiled. "Next time I earn 10,267 dollars, I'll come back." "I think you should come back in the next half-hour." the clerk called after her. "We're expecting something new." Finally, Ryoka reached her room with all the stuff behind her in a huge bag. Except for the peach skin, blue eyes, and the pink hair, you probably couldn't tell the difference between her and Santa at the time! "I can't wait until tommorow, when I get my Pokemon license!" she thought excitedly. After putting all the stuff in her room, she looked at one of her many Mew watches and saw that she was late. "Geez, why can't Mom tell me when it's time to go?" Ryoka said to herself. After jumping onto her Mew skateboard, she finally reached the Mew store. Before she could get in, two guys holding a huge crate walked in. Ryoka waited until they were inside, then raced in. The two guys were taking something out of the crate, which looked like another box, and giving it to the clerk, who then put it up on a lower shelf that was right behind him. Ryoka waited until the two men were gone, the ran up to the clerk. "Oh Ryoka, I'm glad you're here." the jolly clerk said. "I just got the thing I was telling you about. Come see!" He let Ryoka come behind the counter. She walked up to the box and saw that it had a glass covering on one side and holes on the top. Ryoka peered through the glass, and screamed her head off at what she saw.
CHAPTER TWO
"What are you looking at?" the thing, or should I say, the MEW in the box asked. Ryoka was speechless for a minute, then exploded. "WHERE THE HECK DID YOU GET THIS?!" she screamed "HOW DID YOU GET THIS?! HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?! AND MOST INPORTANTLY, HOW MUCH IS IT?!" "I'm a girl, not an it." the Mew said crossly. The clerk looked at the Mew and sighed. "She's over two-thousand dollars. You're fifty dollars short." Ryoka looked like she was going to crack an second. She wimpered, but before she could do anything else, Professor Oak walked into the store. Then, before her very eyes, he fished out some money to the clerk, picked up the box, and walked out of the store. Before the doors shut behind him, Ryoka could have sworn she heard the Mew whisper good-bye. A few minutes later, Ryoka was standing outside, banging her head against a wall. "Stupid!" she told herself, "Stupid, stupid! WHY did I have to buy all those Mew pencil sharpeners?! WHY couldn't I save up my money?!" She stopped, then rubbed her head. Then, she looked at her watch and saw that it was 8:00, hopped onto her skateboard, and rode home. Once Ryoka got there, she tossed her skateboard back into the garage and ate some dinner with her mom. After debating who's turn it was to clear the table, Ryoka ran upstairs, stuck her robe on, and began to fill the bathtub up. As she watched thewater, she began to think about what Pokemon she'd pick tommorow. "Maybe I should take Squirtle..." she thought, "Or maybe Bulbasaur...or Charmander...I can't make up my mind..." After soaking for a bit, she got out and blow-dried her hair. "Maybe I should take Doduo..." she thought. After she got ready, she took out Hatchet, a book she was reading, and sat down on her bed. "Maybe they'll have Alakazam..." Later at night, she dreamt of a Squirtle, a Charmander, a Bulbasaur, a Doduo, and an Alakazam all standing in a line and she had to pick one. Ryoka couldn't make up her mind at first, but near the end of her dream, she chose Doduo. Then, all of a sudden, a dark and mysterious Pokemon stepped into the line with all the other Pokemon and said to her, "Choose me!" Ryoka didn't know what to do. Then, she woke up.
CHAPTER THREE
Ryoka rolled over and tried to get back to sleep. She wanted to find out what that dream meant. Finally, she drifted off to sleep, but she didn't dream of that Pokemon. This time, she was seeing her rival Jenna getting the last Pokemon that was there. Ryoka saw herself running over to Professor Oak's (well actually, it was his cousin's) lab, but as soon as she was about to run in, the doors slammed shut in her face. A voice told her to go away and come back next year. At that moment, Ryoka snapped awake, breathing hard. She looked at her alarm clock and discovered that it wasn't there! She looked on the floor. There was her alarm clock. She must have knocked it over during the night! Ryoka snapped her head over to her digital Mew clock and screamed. It was 11:34! She was supposed to be there at 11:00! She sprang out of bed, jumped into her clothes, and raced down the road, still struggling to get her left shoe on. Finally, she reached Professor Oak's house. Breathing hard, she pushed the door open and was immediately greeted by the face of Jenna. She had already gotten her Pokemon and was walking down the steps with a Pokeball in her hand. "So Ryoka," she said smugly, "you finally got here. I was beginning to think that you weren't going to come!" Ryoka scowled. "Anyway," Jenna continued, "you're just a little late. I've gotten the last Pokemon!" "YOU DIDN'T!" Ryoka screamed. "Oh, yes I did!" Jenna said proudly. Ryoka's mouth hung open in shock, then she bolted past Jenna and raced inside. "There has to be one left, there just has to be one left!" Ryoka gasped as she ran. Once she had gotten to Professor Oak, she stopped for a few short seconds to breath, then started screaming. "DON'T TELL ME THERE ARE NO MORE POKEMON! THERE'S GOT TO BE AT LEAST ONE MORE!" "Well, uh..." Professor Oak muttered, "yes, there is one Pokemon left, but..." "SKIP THE INTRODUCTION, I JUST WANT MY POKEMON!" Ryoka screamed. "Well, okay then..." Professor Oak sighed. He led Ryoka into a room filled with screens on the wall. Each screen showed a different Pokemon in its natural habitat. Ryoka had her eyes fixed on a Chansey. It was taking eggs out of its little pink pouch one at a time. Professor Oak led Ryoka to a chair and told her to sit down while he got her Pokemon. Then he went into a different room. Ryoka looked at all of the different screens. One showed a Hitmonlee practicing his special attack, Mega-Kick. Another showed a Pikachu racing a Clefairy. The Clefairy was flying as fast as she could while the Pikachu tried to keep up while using Agility. Finally, Professor Oak came back with a Pokeball in his hands. Ryoka had a very strange feeling that she knew what was coming. "I was going to do some research on this one," he started, "but now I think I can study how this one acts around humans, so that's why I'm giving it to you." Ryoka gulped, then took the Pokeball from Professor Oak's hands. "Well, here I go..." she murmured, "Pokeball, GO!" There was a bright flash of white light, and a Pokemon materialized in front of her. It was small, but size didn't really matter, because Ryoka nearly passed out anyway.
CHAPTER FOUR
"Ryoka? Ryoka, wake up!" someone said. "Huh, what?" Ryoka came out of her daze, shook her head, and looked around. "You okay?" Professor Oak asked. "I...I think so. What happened?" Ryoka picked herself up off the floor and brushed the dust off her shirt. "Well," Professor Oak started, "You passed out when you saw your starting Pokemon." "Oh..." Ryoka stood in the same spot for a minute before her big eyes lit up. "...So...so my starting Pokemon was..." She didn't get to finish her sentence. A tiny pink thing descended in front of her face upside-down and stared straight at her before letting out a high pitched "Hello!"

"Man, I CAN'T believe I got a MEW for a starting Pokemon!" Ryoka laughed as she and her new Mew walked/floated down a grassy area. "Well, ya better believe it!" Mew smiled. Ryoka looked around and suddenly stopped short. Mew banged into her backpack. "OWW!" she squeaked. "Sorry Mew." Ryoka apologized. "But look at what I just saw!" Mew turned her head up. A Machop had wandered away from his pack and was lost. "All right, my first Pokemon!" Ryoka took a Pokeball from her belt. "Hey, I thought I was your first Pokemon!" Mew protested. "You are!" Ryoka answered. "I just mean this is the first Pokemon I ever caught, that's all!" Ryoka turned her attention back to the Machop. "Okay, Mew, GO!" Ryoka commanded. Mew shrugged her shoulders and walked over to the Machop. "Mew, you have to enter with style!" Ryoka said. "Jump in and say your name or something!" Mew looked at Ryoka questionably. "Oh, forget it." Ryoka sighed. "Anyway, Mew, use your CUT ATTACK!" she commanded. Mew jumped up into the air. Suddenly, her tail became razor sharp! The next thing Ryoka knew, the Machop had passed out and was lying in front of her. She smiled, then took a Pokeball from her belt. "Pokeball, GO!" she yelled. The ball smacked the Machop in the head and sucked him into it, then fell to the floor. The ball wiggled once...twice...three times...four times...then it stopped. Ryoka walked over to the the ball and picked it up. She grinned. "All right, I caught my first Pokemon!" Ryoka cheered.
CHAPTER FIVE
"Well, goodnight everybody." Night had fallen and Ryoka, Mew, and Machop (who was out of his Pokeball) were about to catch some Zs. Ryoka quickly fell asleep in her sleeping bag, Mew (somehow) created a big pink bubble for herself to curl up on, and Machop lay down on a patch of overgrown grass and gazed up at the dark sky. There were no stars out that night. Machop sighed loudly. Perhaps too loud, for Mew lifted her head and stared at him. "Hey..." She bounced off the bubble and floated towards him, "...you okay?" "Ma-Machop." (I can't sleep.) he replied. "What's wrong?" Mew asked. "...Machop Machop Machop." (...I miss my family.) Machop sighed. "Oh." Mew said, stupidly. Machop sat up and laughed. Mew scowled, but continued. "You know, if you miss your family, I'm pretty sure that Ryoka would let you go." Mew cast a glance in the girl's direction. "She seems nice." Machop looked at Ryoka, then lay back down and closed his eyes. "Ma-Machop-chop Machop. Machop-Ma." (I'll do it tomorrow. I'm tired.) "Okay." Mew floated back into the air and landed back on the bubble, but couldn't seem to find a comfortable position. She rolled over, accidently rolled off the bubble and landed on the ground with a thud. Machop started laughing again. "Oh, shut up!" Mew yelled as she floated back onto the bubble.

The next day was very icky. It rained from the crack of dawn until noon. Then it let up for about 15 minutes (and allowed some time for Ryoka-tachi to get to a cave) before starting up again, this time for the rest of the day. "Man, what rotten weather!" Ryoka kicked the dirt. "Are you sure this cave'll keep us dry?" Mew asked. "Of course it will!" Ryoka exclaimed. Two seconds later, a huge gust of wind blasted the falling rain in the direction of the cave opening and soaked Ryoka and Mew. "...Oops..." Ryoka said. "Hey," Mew pulled the map out of Ryoka's backpack and opened it up, "The nearest Pokemon Center is only half-a-mile away." She turned to the trainer. "You think we can make it?" "Well..." Ryoka started, "...We're already soaked, and I don't think we can get any wetter. Sure, let's go for it!"
