What's New at Windstorm Rabbits

From now on this page will be like a diary. It won't be the "every day" entry type, just maybe an entry once a week or so. Let me know how you like it!

December 14, 2000 Today is a brisk 30 degrees F, and the bunnies are cozy in the barn with their cages full of straw to burrow into. Fudge was due to have a litter last week but it turned out she had missed. Jazz, my chestnut agouti mini lop has refused to breed since Oct. Now I am not trying to breed until the weather improves. We're supposed to get an ice storm by midnight tonight. It's odd for Oklahoma weather. Usually we are lucky to get a snow in, oh say, February, March. It's usually a light snow that doesn't last. Here the snow that came Monday has gone to a sheet of ice covered by around eight to twelve inches of snow depending on the area you live in. Here we only have about four inches. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed yesterday so my brother is caring for the bunnies until I'm able to get out and about. Well that's about it for today's entry. Merry Christmas!

January 19, 2001 Today is much warmer after our extreme cold fronts that have been going through. I've tried four times to get does pregnant and each time has failed miserably. Therefore I'm putting a halt to all breeding attempts until the weather is warmer. No use convincing the does to take and losing the litter to hypothermia. I might have to bring in my trusty friend Apple Cidar to give me some assistance when that time comes. :)

April 4, 2001 It is a sad, sad day at Windstorm Rabbits. Last night while I was at work something (we think it was the coon that has been plagueing us since we started raising rabbits)got into the barn and dragged Gloria, a senior black mini rex doe, out of her cage and into the yard. At her squeals my family opened the door and my beagle/terrier dog Snicker dashed out and chased it off. He then stood over her until it was gone and gently picked her up to bring her to my sister. At the vet's they determined that she not only had puncture wounds but a broken back so she had to be euthanized. My mom and brother brought her home to bury (not such a good idea in my opinion, but oh well). This is why she has been taken off the for sale section.

April 6, 2001 The weather has been warming up a bit, though today has been a very nice cool, breezy day. I sold two more rabbits, so I have four mini rex left to sell. All the bunnies are feeling frisky with the lovely weather. Setting our show sights on the April 28th show in Kellysville, OK.

April 28, 2001 Today was a tiring but fun day. I went to the OSRBA Spring Rabbit Show in Kellyville, OK with my best friend Kendra. I showed eight rabbits, four mini lops and four mini rex, sold two minirex and Kendra gained a beautiful blue harlequin through the raffle (donated by James Murray). His name is Raffle. :) Got a BOSV with Jazz, my senior chestnut agouti mini lop doe- very excited. Can hardly wait to receive the Leg certificate in the mail!

May 29, 2001 Expecting babies to arrive sometime within the next two to three days. A mini lop and a mini rex litter, though I'm not sure about the lop because she was due yesterday. Of course, she could just be late. I tend to get a little anxious about this sort of thing. :)

May 30, 2001 Well Jazz gave birth at 1:00 this morning! She had three, all alive and doing fine so far. I'm so happy. She's a very good mom. Now I've got my fingers crossed for Freckles, the mini rex, who is due tonight. Wish me luck.

June 29, 2001 Two litters in the barn, and I'm so happy. :) I only lost two, one from each litter. One was a runt and the other a snake got. However, the rest are doing great: round and vivacious. The weather has not been too bad, although a couple of upper 90's days have come and gone. Yesterday and today brough much-needed rain, so for now it's nice and cool for the bunnies.

July 8, 2001 Babies are getting big, and one of the lops' ears have completely dropped. The other one, the doe, has one down and one halfway down. It's cute! We're getting ready for a show in Kellyville, Oklahoma. If you are going you should consider emailing me! I'm already planning to meet some email pals there. :)

July 29,2001 Just woke up after sleeeeeeping! I went to the all-night show last night and went home at 2am this morning a very happy breeder. Two of my bunnies won BOB and BOS. Jazz, BOB, was the one who just weaned a litter off three weeks ago! And Freckles, the other mom, placed 5 out of 9, so she didn't do bad either for just weaning a litter. One of my babies won 2 out of 6 and the judge told me I'd better not even consider selling him. :) We had fun and I got to mingle with my fellow breeders and see some hard work pay off on the show table, for myself and for many other breeders.
