True to their word, Hanson postponed touring until November to be with their family. Lila started kindergarten a year early, due to her grandmother's teaching and her level of maturity. Chloe took her to school every morning and picked her up around noon.
Lila's first day of kindergarten was a nightmare for her. She had never been separated from her family before, and she was terribly shy.
"Mommy, why do I have to go?" she had asked in front of the building.
"Because you're very, very smart for your age and Daddy and I need to get a few things sorted out, ok?" Chloe had answered. Lila had nodded mournfully, understanding.
Later on that day, when Chloe picked Lila up, she was bawling and had many kids calling her names. Apparently, one of the children's mother or father was a Hanson fan, and he had recognized her name. One of the more popular names was 'Daddy's girl', which Chloe didn't see anything wrong with, but it broke Lila's heart to be called that.
After a while, Lila became numb to this nicknames and had made a few friends who had no idea who 'Hanson' was, and didn't care about her age.
By this time, Chloe was almost 7 months pregnant, and Kendall was 5. They hung out together, Chloe giving Kendall tips. Kendall never stopped complaining about how big she was getting, and no matter how many times Zac told her that she looked absolutely fine, or beautiful, in his words, she grew more and more self-conscious.
"Kendall, for a person that's halfway through her pregnancy, you look as thin as hell." Chloe had told her.
"Yeah, right. I've gained a million and one pounds, and none of my cloths- not even my baggy shirts!- fit me." Kendall had countered.
"Kendall, when was the last time you owned anything baggy?" Chloe muttered.
Kendall looked thoughtful for a moment, then shrugged. "When I was 3?"
Chole nodded. "I thought so…"
"Oh shut up!" Kendall laughed, throwing a pillow at Chloe. Chloe grabbed a few stuffed animals from the couch and she threw them towards Kendall. A little while later, they were at war, throwing a variety of stuffed things at each other, ranging from a tiny pillow to a ten year old stuffed gorilla.
Zac walked into the room and in front of Chloe just as Kendall threw the large gorilla at her. It hit Zac square in the chest, bouncing off of him. Zac just looked from Chloe to Kendall for a moment, then started laughing.
"You two, I swear… I am never going to get in the middle of you two while you're at each other's throats, if this is what you do for fun." Zac rolled his eyes, making his way through the littered-with-stuffed-animals living room.
"Hey Zac… Where's Ike and Tay?" Kendall asked.
Zac shrugged. "I think they're in the music room." Chloe glanced at the closed door. She got up and opened the door, seeing Taylor playing the piano while Isaac was plucking at his guitar.
"Uhh, Ike… I think it's already dead." She mumbled. Without warning, Taylor started the notes to Heart and Soul, the song they had written.
"You know, that song can go two ways." Isaac commented.
Taylor stopped playing and looked at his brother questionably. "Huh?"
"I mean, it can be what we wrote it for, or it can be-"
"A love song." Chloe finished for Isaac, smiling towards him.
"Yeah, you're right…" Taylor mumbled, starting the song once again.
"Come on Tay… We're going out to eat dinner soon. Would you two like to join us?" Chloe asked.
Isaac nodded. When he saw that Taylor wasn't acknowledging her, he gently grabbed his lower jaw and shook it up and down.
Chloe laughed. "I'll take that as a yes."
The weeks turned into months, and after almost nine months of carrying twins, Chloe was sick and tired of it.
"Isaac… There is no way on God's green earth that I'm going to last three more days." Chloe moaned, trying to sit up in bed.
"Chloe, come on… It's only three more days." Isaac said, rubbing her back. The twins were due on September 29th, and it was the morning of the 26th.
"Isaac, you're not the one that has to carry these little guys around everywhere you go, and who's back and ankles are aching." Chloe snapped. Isaac raised his eyebrows, leaning back a little ways.
"I'm going to take Lila to school today, ok?" Isaac got out of bed and got dressed quickly. He got Lila dressed and ready to go by 8:30, and she was dropped off around 9. He immediately came home to find Chloe in front of the TV, watching Daria reruns on MTV.
"Once a teenager, always a teenager." Isaac rolled his eyes.
"Watch it buster. I never got to finish high school in an actual school, so I'd be careful if I were you." Chloe muttered, throwing a pillow at him.
"I still don't see why you insist on watching Daria. That show is totally unrealistic." Isaac sat down next to Chloe.
"How would you know, mister? I know for a fact that you were home schooled almost all of your life." Chloe set her head in Isaac's lap, shifting as little as possible.
"True, but I happen to recognize fiction when I see it." Isaac countered.
"And I don't?!" Chloe exclaimed.
"Whoops… Didn't want to upset the pregnant woman…" Isaac mumbled.
"I am not a woman." Chloe mumbled. Isaac glanced down at her.
"Last time I checked you were."
Chloe shrugged. "I hate that word so much… I prefer female, if you don't mind."
"Right. Just like Taylor prefers grapes to raisins." Isaac chuckled.
"And just like… Oh never mind. He'd be pissed at me." Chloe said, grabbing the remote and changing the channel to VH1.
"Jinx. Good song…" Chloe said, watching the music video for the song ' Neva Eva'.
"Jinx is just a 21st century remake of the Spice Girls." Isaac concluded. Chloe laughed at this, causing her to nearly fall off the sofa.
"Told you I was fat." She grinned as Isaac slipped his arm protectively around her.
"Nah, just a little bit pudgy." Isaac grinned, rubbing her stomach. Chloe smiled, closing her eyes.
"Tired?" Isaac asked. Chloe shook her head.
"Nah, just not in the mood to keep my eyes open."
"In other words, tired but not tired enough to even think about sleep?" Isaac suggested.
"Got that right buster." Chloe muttered.
The next night, around 11 pm, Chloe was awakened by pain in her abdomen. She briefly wondered whether or not it was just one of the two babies kicking, but that thought was quickly dismissed when she felt dampness under her.
"Isaac…" she whispered, shaking her husband awake. He looked at her alarmed face sleepily, then his eyes widened.
"Clo, what's wrong?" he asked. Chloe shrugged, almost embarrassed to admit the fact that she thought she was in labor.
"Umm… I think it's time…" she mumbled. Isaac was quickly on his feet and getting dressed. Chloe was thankful that they had agreed to let Lila spend the week over at her grandmother's house.
After Isaac was dressed, he helped Chloe get up and dressed, then he quickly ran to the car to get the engine started. Chloe slowly walked after him, and he quickly came back to help her.
Once at the hospital, Chloe was seated in a wheelchair and taken to the maternity floor, while Isaac was left to fill out some papers. He quickly called his mother, then rushed up to the 4th floor. He was directed towards the room that Chloe was in, and quickly ran down the hall.
Chloe was laying in a bed while one of the doctors told her about what was happening. She wasn't listening, her attention directed towards the door of the room. Moments, later, Isaac walked in and next to her bed, gripping her hand tightly.
"Ok, since we have the father here, I was just telling your wife what happens during the labor and birthing process." The doctor explained.
"She already knows." Isaac informed him. The doctor looked down at his charts, confused.
"You mean you've had children before?" he asked.
Chloe nodded. "Four years ago, and I had a miscarriage last year."
The doctor looks embarrassed for a moment, "Ok, it seems that the nurse didn't write that down…"
"That's because it's all happened in different parts of the country." Isaac explained.
"Ok, in that case, I'm assuming you've never had twins before…" the doctor looked at Isaac, who shook his head. "Ok then. Sometimes the birth of multiple babies can be a little bit more dangerous, due to the fact that there is more chance that a number of things may go wrong. But, if anything does happen, if we have your permission we will have a c-section **AN: So sue me if that's wrong**." The doctor said.
Isaac nodded. "How far along is she?"
"Well, Mr…"
"Hanson. Isaac Hanson."
"Cute… Well, Mr. Hanson, it will be a little while, approximately 3 hours for the first baby, possibly 4 or 5. Compared to other births, that's pretty good timing…" the doctor shrugged. "By the way, my name is Dr. Green."
"Ok, thank you." Isaac said, turning towards Chloe. Dr. Green left, leaving the two alone.
"How are you doing?" he asked.
"I'm ok, considering." Chloe answered.
"Yeah… Mom and Taylor should be here soon. I'm not too sure about everyone else." Isaac reported. As on cue, Mrs. Hanson and Taylor, with Lila in his arms, walked through the door.
"Hey Ike, hey Clo…" Taylor said, setting Lila down.
"Hey sweetheart, are you doing ok? Has the doctor been in here yet?" Mrs. Hanson asked.
"I'm doing ok, I think. And yes, Dr. Green's been in here already." Chloe answered.
"That's good." Mrs. Hanson responded, looking at Chloe's very swollen stomach. "How long have you been in labor?"
"A little more then an hour, I guess." Chloe answered, gripping Isaac's hand as a wave of pain washed over her.
"The doctor estimated about 3 to 5 hours." Isaac said, his eyes not moving from Chloe's face.
"Ok, then. You know what, Lila, Tay? How about we go down to the cafeteria and find some caffeine?" Mrs. Hanson suggested, taking Lila by the hand and leading her out with Taylor at her heels.
"You want anything big bro?" Taylor asked. Isaac shook his head. Once they left, Chloe let out a sigh of relief.
"I really, really do not want Lila in the room…" Chloe said. Isaac nodded.
"I get what you mean." He said. Silence filled the room until, once again, pain entered Chloe's body.
"Jesus Christ!" she muttered, her teeth clenched together.
"These things are getting a little close… Do you want me to call a doctor?" Isaac asked, concerned.
"No, I'm fine… Dr. Green said 3 to 5 hours…"
"Chloe, I know from experience that doctors are usually wrong. I mean, they said Avery might never walk again after that car accident. Guess what? She's walking." Isaac countered, reaching for the call button. Chloe slapped his hand away.
"Ike, come on… I've done this before." She sighed.
"Well, I can't say that, but I have six little brothers and sisters." Isaac reminded her.
"I know, I know… But it's different with your own kid… Shit I hate this part…" Chloe winced as the pain came again, then left.
"Like I was saying, it's different with your own kid… You're more concerned." Chloe reminded Isaac.
Isaac sighed, then leaned back. "Fine. I'll bargain with a minute." Chloe nodded, excepting.
