Jayden's Birth StoryOn Jan. 25, 1999 Jennifer called and said she felt as if her water was leaking. She had been having contraction off and on for a while so we decided to go to the hospital to check and make sure. They took us into a room to check her out and said her water was not leaking, and sent us home. The next day Jennifer was leaking so much she was having to wear a pad to prevent leaking. She decided to call her doctor and got an appointment for that evening. Jennifer called and said she had Dr.’s appt and Jay was at work and wanted me to go with her. (Jay worked just around the corner from the Dr.’s office.) Once we got into the room, Jay came in looking for us. Jennifer was setting on the exam table and could feel small gushes of water. So I told daddy to look outside the door to see if there were any blue pads for Jennifer to use. Also so that the Dr.’s could “actually” see that Jen was leaking. When the Dr.’s came in and checked Jennifer with the strip, it turned blue instantly. I started getting really excited and kept whispering to Jennifer that it was blue, which meant Jen’s water was leaking. The doctor and the nurse went out to check the strip under the microscope. When they left the room everyone got really excited cause it was “time." When the Dr.’s returned he stated that Jen’s water was leaking a little and advised her to go ahead and go over to the hospital and be checked in. I drove her over and Jay went to the house to get Jen’s things. (They only live 4 blocks from the hospital.) Once we were checked in they wanted to put an IV on Jen cause she was being put on the “pit.” The nurse must a hit a really good vein because Jen’s blood went everywhere. After hours of being on the pit, Jen still was not making any progress. They kept coming in turning up the pit, but it still did not do any good and she still was not dilating. We even tried walking the halls which helped a little. Jennifer decided to not taking any pain medication, due to she was afraid that is would slow down any process with the dilation. Around 2 A.M. she was finally dilated to a 2, and not making any progress. At one point she decided to take some medicine to help relax her, but the medicine only made her sick to her stomach. Finally, after hours of being on the pit and only dilated to a 2½, the Dr. came in a checked Jennifer and said he thought he was touching the baby’s butt instead of the head. He then ordered an x-ray which showed that the baby was head down and in position. The nurses and doctor then started talking about doing a C-section. At this time Jennifer became scared and said she could hold out longer, cause she wanted to have the baby natural. After a few more hours and no more dilation, the nurses did not want to give Jen any more pit cause she was almost maxed out on the amount she could take. At this time she still had not had any pain medication and had been on the pit for over 19 hours. The doctor then decided it was time to do an emergency c-section. Once they had Jennifer in the operating room and were preparing her for the surgery the epidural man asked her if she could feel whatever he was doing. She told him she could still feel it and he became upset and stated that she should not be able to feel anything. He then gave her more meds and she became numb. Shortly afterwards my beautiful niece, Jayden Brooke, was born. After they brought Jayden out they had complication with Jennifer and her pain medicine. She was not brought out of the recovery room until 3 hours after Jayden was born. She was having trouble feeling her body due to the amount of the second epidrual the doctor gave her. After Jayden was born we found out why Jennifer never dilated. The cord was wrapped around Jayden’s body several times, which would not let her come down the canal, but she was born a healthy beautiful little girl. I am grateful Jay and Jennifer let me be part of Jayden’s birth and her life. Thank you guys!!! ![]() 30 mins old
