I was on my way from Mumbai to Pune.It had rained the whole morning and the sun was making its first appearance during early afternoon . Taking the opportunity , the WCAM engineer brings the massive rolling stock out of the shed and waits for the shunting locomotive to bring in the Mumbai- Chennai : Chennai Mail in to the adjoining platfrom at CST (Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus : Bombay VT) The Chennai Mail departs 30 minutes prior (14:55 hrs)to the Mumbai - Pune : Sinhagad Express(15:25 hrs) Notice the Blue - yellow - red livery of the WCAM. This is a new combination being tried out by Central Railways. |

Its 14:15 hrs and the shunting locomotive pulls into the platform with the empty Chennai Mail : 20 rakes . Notice the WCAM still basking in the background. It would haul the Chennai Mail to its destination (Chennai , formerly known as Madras). The shunting class locomotive is a Diesel driven one from Kurla (formerly known as Coorla during the British rule) shed | |

It's 10:45 AM as The Mumbai - Kolhapur : Koyna Express arrives at Karjat Jn.It is after this halt that the train starts it's climb into the Bhor Ghats eventually attaining maximum elavation at Lonavala. In order for the train to make this steep climb multiple locomotives are attached to the rear end of the train at Karjat so as to generate a Push Pull unit for travel in the ghat section. Notice the traditional brown colored livery for the rakes ( this is now being replaced by a combination of blue). |
