Chapter 4

Make It Home

"Wake it, wake your dream...Once forgotten need...Sleeping deep inside of you...Heavenly peace."

~Juliana Hatfield~

Marilla stood by the entrance to the stage, listening to the guys sing. Isaac was more busy watching her than what he was doing. He smiled at her and then finally looked down at his guitar. Marilla had to admit, they were good. But she still didn't like them. Except maybe Isaac. Gosh, he's cute, she thought. But I don't date...not even him. No matter how much I want to...

"Admiring Isaac?" Andrea said, coming up behind her.

"Uh...yeah," she replied, guiltily. "But no matter what I'm not giving in. I will not date him."

"Oh, give it up, Marilla. You know you want to. Besides, he's absolutely nothing like Bobby. He's not horny all the time," Andrea said, smiling. "Anyway, why don't you just tell Isaac everything about what happened with Bobby? He may be more understanding than you think."

"Well, if you think so...but only if you talk to Taylor more. Get to know him a little better before you judge him," Marilla said. "I think he just might be a kindred spirit underneath it all."

"You just sounded like the real Marilla from Anne of Green Gables. You're scaring me, little sis," Andrea said. "And no, I won't talk to him. I've tried twice already, and every time, he says something perverted. I don't even want to get around him at all."

"Just watch, you'll end up kissing him or something, and you'll like him," Marilla said. "And I'm only 2 minutes younger than you, remember? So don't be calling me little sis. Most people do assume I'm the older one."

"Even if you aren't. Just give Isaac a chance. I think he really likes you," Andrea said. "Ok?" She began to walk away.

"I'll think about it," Marilla replied. The song the boys had been performing ended. The audience began to clap, as the boys bowed and left the stage. Marilla moved away from the doorway, as they came running toward it.

"Ready to go?" Isaac asked Marilla, out of breath.

"Yeah, I guess so. Aren't we going to take the limo?" Marilla responded.

"Nah...I figure we can walk. It's only a block or so from here. We can make it without being mobbed," Isaac said. "Come on." He took her hand and led her out the back exit onto the street. He looked both ways. "Alright, this way." They took off don the street and turned the corner. Suddenly they were in downtown Boston. She could see Hard Rock Café from where they were standing. They began to walk down the sidewalk towards Hard Rock.

It wasn't quite dark yet, but most places had turned on their lights and neon signs. Downtown Boston looked really pretty at night. Music could be heard coming from a pub across the street. They were playing some Juliana Hatfield. Marilla couldn't resist. She tugged on Isaac's sleeve.

"Can we please stop in there?" Marilla asked. "They're playing Juliana Hatfield. And I feel like dancing anyway."

"Please, no! I hate dancing. I suck at it. Besides, someone might recognize me," Isaac replied.

"Oh, lighten up! Please? I love Juliana Hatfield," Marilla pleaded.

"But what about the movie? I have to watch it sometime," Isaac said.

"Oh, it can wait! Please?" she begged, giving him the puppy dog eyes. Isaac couldn't bear it. He took her hand and led her across the street to the pub. They paid the bouncer and walked inside. The place was filled with smoke. And Juliana Hatfield was performing. "Yes! She's actually here! I can't believe this!"

"I can't believe I'm actually here," Isaac said. "Can we find a table?" Marilla nodded. They wove through the crowds and tables until they found an empty one near the stage. He pulled the chair out for her as she sat down, then he sat down beside her. The woman on stage began to sing.

"Deep in the night, I think on a time...

All was right...

Here in the star gaze, I see in your face...

All is not right...

Isaac looked over at Marilla. She had her eyes closed and she was swaying to the music. The reached over and touched her hand. She opened her eyes. "Do you want to dance?" he mouthed at her. She nodded. He stood up and helped her out of her chair. They walked out on the dance floor as he put his arms around her and they began to sway.

"Make it, make your way home...

Better than the rest...

Break it, break the ahh...(I couldn't understand what the singer said!)

Take a second chance...

Open the window, let in the snow...

Cold is all I know...

Go to the fire, stir it around...

There's a warmer place for you to go...

So make it, make your way home...

Better than you have...

Break it, break the ahh...

Leave it in the past...

Oh, look and you'll find it...

Someone wants to love you...

Look, and you'll find it...

Someone wants to love you...

Wake it, wake your dream...

Once forgotten need...

Sleeping deep inside of you...

Heavenly peace...

Marilla looked up at Isaac. She realized then that there was no one else in the world she'd rather be with. He had his eyes closed. She leaned up on tiptoe and put her lips against his softly. His eyes opened in surprise. She kissed his warm lips gently. He closed his eyes and began to kiss back. The song was over, but they stood there, kissing. They finally realized that the song was over and pulled away from each other. They just stood there staring at each other.

~***~

Taylor and Andrea were he only ones in the limo on the way back to the hotel. Caroline and Diana had decided to go run some errands and took Zac and Abby with them. They were meeting the two back at the hotel later. Andrea glared at Taylor as he was busy fiddling with the stereo system. She was none too happy to be stuck with him for a few hours, much less alone. I really hope he doesn't try anything on me. Or else he'll be meeting my fist.

Taylor finally found a decent station and sat back in his seat. He looked over at Andrea. She was staring out the window, with an angry expression on her face. I guess she's not too happy to be stuck hanging out with me for the afternoon. If I were her, I wouldn't be either. God, why did I say that to her? That has to be the stupidest thing I ever done...aside from telling all my friends that I've slept with more than just one girl, when I really haven't. What would Anna do in this situation? That's easy...she wouldn't have gotten herself into it in the first place...I am so stupid! He sighed loudly, grabbing Andrea's attention.

"Do you have to sigh like that? You're filling the limo with bad karma," Andrea said, sounding very irritated. He tried not to laugh at her comment, but a snort came out.

"Karma? Like you actually know what that means," Taylor said, finally laughing. She gave him a dirty look.

"I do so know what it means. It means destiny or fate. I read about it in Teen Magazine," Andrea said, turning red.

"You actually read that trash? How pathetic," he said, rolling his eyes. He turned to look out the window.

"Well, at least I don't sing like a girl," she mumbled, under her breath.

"You are a girl, therefore, you sing like one," he retorted. "So that comment you just made was completely dumb. Just like you."

"Are you saying that I'm stupid?" Andrea said. "Because if I were really stupid, I wouldn't have been offended by that comment you made at the Café!" She finally turned to face him, with a peeved look on her face.

"Most girls like it when I say that they have large...globes, and that I wouldn't mind fooling around with them! If you weren't such a bitch you wouldn't have been offended by it! You would have been flattered!" Taylor exclaimed.

"Bullshit! And why would I have been flattered by it? Because it came from you? The Great Taylor Hanson! Don't give yourself airs!" Andrea yelled back. They were nose to nose.

"Well, you seemed impressed when you first saw me! I thought you were a fan!" Taylor yelled.

"I was a fan...until I actually met you. Then I found out what a scum bag you are!" Andrea shouted. They were both growing angrier by the minute. The limo driver rolled down the window.

"The Grand Hyatt, sir," the driver said, interrupting their argument. He got out and opened the door for them. They got out of the car and walked inside the hotel.

"Bitch," Taylor mumbled under his breath.

"Cocky," she mumbled back.

"Whore," he mumbled.

"Fag," she mumbled back.

"Hoe Down!" he said.

"Very funny," she said, giving him a fake smile. They stepped onto the elevator. Taylor pressed the button for floor 25. The elevator door closed. "Whack off."

"Porn star," he retorted. Floor 5, floor 6, floor 7.

"Horny toad," she said. Floor 10, floor 11, floor 12.

"You want me," he said. Floor 15, floor 16, floor 17.

"You wish!" Floor 19, BANG! The elevator shuddered and came to a halt. The arrow was between floors 19 and 20. The lights went out, then came back on. Taylor was clinging to the bar, while Andrea was in a ball on the floor. The elevator was stuck.
