Adelaide, Australia - Entertainment Centre June 23, 1999 Punk rock sends the fans wild The frenzied crowd wanted to hear some punk rock. The Offspring gave it to them, baby, uh-huh, uh-huh. At the Entertainment Centre last night, it was ear-piercingly obvious that this four-piece American outfit is one of the world's most popular at the moment. It was energy, attitude and total anarchy, finely honed over their 15-year history that The Offspring exuded from the stage - and a lot of juvenile delinquency. Frontman Dexter Holland took great delight in destroying inflatable likenesses of the Backstreet Boys with a baseball bat - and the audience roared its support. The bands first set consisted mostly of tracks from it's current multi-platinum album, Americana. They ripped though tracks such as The Kids Aren't Alright, Walla Walla and Have You Ever while fans who could no longer bear the crush of the crowd were pulled over barricades by crowd controllers. Those who stuck it out were treated to some of the band's earlier hits such as Come Out And Play, Genocide and Self Esteem. "Give it to me baby", the crowd screamed when they belted out their big hit Pretty Fly (For A White Guy). After an intermission and more songs, they was gone, leaving thousands of exhausted but exhilarated fans. By Sarah Thomas, from Adelaide Advertiser - June 24th, 1999 |
