Thanks, Glenn] WORLD OF RADIO ON WORLD RADIO NETWORK: new A-01 schedules have been posted March 24, effective March 25, showing both our airings shift one UT hour earlier: NAm Sat 1400; Eu/Af/As/Pac Sat 0800 ** AUSTRALIA. I was thinking DST ended at R. Australia in February as in previous years, so was surprised to hear Feedback mention that it is ending at ``3 am this Sunday``, which conveniently almost meshes with the change in the other direxion in Europe, if not NAm. This applies to Victoria, not necessarily other states, even Qsld. where RA transmitters be! Not much effect on RA scheduling but Australia All Over will now be heard UT Sat 2000-2145, then the new Asia Sunday at 2145; and 15240 opens to SE Asia at 2200 [is this new? Don`t think so]. Grandstand, the silly sports extravaganza, starts Sunday and from next week also Saturday at 0210, and Grandstand Wrap will be both days at 0810 (John Figliozzi lists this at 0805 -- yet another instance of RA confusion over the length of its own newscasts). This week`s Feedback also discussed RA`s unexpected new problem of losing satellite links to relays on Palapa with the closedown of ATV. Final airing is UT Sunday 0305 (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** AUSTRIA. While AWR has their new times and frequencies for relays from Austria posted, what then is the status of Radio Austria International for the A01 period, starting Sunday? Also, who is responsible for choosing the AWR frequencies from Moosbrunn? The frequency management for the Austria relays sure beats the ridiculous "same frequency year round" fiasco (13730 to North America all year in our mornings, not 17 or 21 MHz... what a joke!) (Joe Hanlon in Philadelphia, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ORF editor Wolf Harranth OE75WHC announced the following timetable: Intermedia Fri 1703, 26 mins in duration, followed by DX Telegram which is cut after 90 seconds. Similar on Sats 1903. Intermedia + DX Telegram complete on Suns at 1630. But HFCC lists Sackville relay earlier at 1500-1600 on 17865. DX Telegram on Fri and Sat 1655. DX Information from the British DX Club (BDXC-UK). From: http://www.sofiaecho.com/art.php?id=1123&ACTIVEPAGE=2&cat=5 By Velina Nacheva, Lyulin Stamenov/Sofia Echo POLICE prevented journalists from the Bulgarian National Radio's Horizont and Hristo Botev programmes from conducting their latest round of industrial action in a dispute with radio bosses on Monday. Two were sacked on Monday and a further five were fired on Wednesday. The journalists -- whose protest was sparked by the appointment of Ivan Borislavov as director-general in January - had planned to air only adverts, music and news. "This is a form of another useless form of resistance," said the composer Alexander Brazitsov, who is temporarily in the post of director of the Bulgarian National Radio. His fax sent to the media stated: "It is about time the protestors chose either the road of law and journalism or the faith of those disobeying law, rules and democracy. This time they will have to face the consequence." But the protesters were prevented from entering the radio building - and an alternative team of presenters and newsreaders took over for two successive days. The radio`s board of managers faced the public with this address: "Bulgarian people do not need any extra tension now... The events around the Parliament on Friday and your attempt at a protest is nothing else but an attempt to take the radio into a never-ending labyrinth." Chairman of the protest committee Silvia Velikova said: "It has been completely absurd -- to have the previous day's news broadcast a day later, that's an example of complete non-professionalism by the journalists who took our seats in the programmes (via Mike Terry, BDXC-UK March 24 via DXLD) Has anybody noticed any effect of all this on R. Glenn Hauser wrote: Hi Keith, I have been following with interest the RVI story, as far as the SW transmissions via Taiwan. I understand you do not intend to pursue this, and I never managed to hear it on 9735 at 1200-1400 UT Sundays. It seems that the DX community did not find out about this until your contact with Sheldon Harvey, and by then RVI was no longer on SW. For historical purposes, I wonder if you could tell me on which dates the SW transmissions actually went out, from start to finish. Also, did you receive any DX reports (as opposed to casual listeners) and did you issue any verifications? Tnx and best regards, (Glenn Hauser to Keith Perron) Hi Glenn, It was a test we had for a few weeks, but it was not very successful. We found we could get more listeners in Hong Kong by satellite and re-broadcast locally. We are working on a deal with RTHK to broadcast us for a few hours a week. Programming will be in English and Cantonese. When I was in HK last week, I was hearing the same thing from everyone that short-wave is dead.. When I was in Beijing I was surprised at home many people would listen to radio via the internet. Shortwave was a nice idea, but it didn't work.. Zapatists [sic] take over two radio stations in Chiapas | Text of report by Spanish news agency EFE San Cristóbal de las Casas (Mexico), 22 March: Today, about 500 Zapatist followers took over the two of the main radio stations in San Cristóbal de las Casas (Chiapas, southern Mexico) to demand approval of an indigenous law. Zapatist National Liberation Army (EZLN) followers stayed for about 15 minutes in XEWM (private) and XERA (public), from where they read a statement demanding the constitutional recognition of the indigenous peoples. They also criticized legislators who today voted against one of the Chamber of Deputies` points for an EZLN representative to defend the indigenous law from the tribune of Congress. "We are totally against the racist, disrespectful and irresponsible attitude of that part of Congress which refuses to amend our history`s most atrocious unfairness, which refuses to act with the responsibility demanded by the people and refuses to contribute to attaining a just peace in Chiapas and Mexico," they said. According to XEWM owner Francisco Narváez, the Indians entered the radio station violently, although XERA manager Heriberto Velasco told EFE that "they knocked on the door and requested politely to use the microphone". The delegation of 23 Zapatist commanders and "Subcommander" Marcos who are in the Mexican capital, had planned to return to Chiapas tomorrow, Friday [23 March], although these plans could change if the guerrillas accept the new dialogue proposal by Congress. According to Mr. Sedich, a director of RadioTelevizija Serbije, the Beograd 1 transmitter on MW 684 kHz has now 200 kW and its repair is planned with a financial help of EBU and ITU. Has anyone in NAm heard this yet? KSMR not on tonight [UT March 24 -- not heard here either at 0330 check -gh]. Glenn, I heard Charlie Puckett on the 'free American' program on 3270 AM at 0400 UT. According to him the FCC was alerted to KSMR by clandestineradio.com. They alerted the FBI, who contacted Mr. Puckett. Their concern was the content, not the legality of KSMR. Also KSMR is to henceforth be called United Patriot Network. BTW who is 3270? It seemed to be a feed of the Genesis network (Dave Hughes, KC MO, DX LISTENING DIGEST) 3270 is WWFV a.k.a. The following report is a collaborative effort between Clandestine Radio Watch and Cumbre DX. USA: KSMR DISAPPEARS By Hans Johnson, Cumbre DX, and Nick Grace C., Clandestine Radio Watch After weeks of broadcasting, KSMR - Kentucky State Militia (KSM) Radio - disappeared on March 21st. Although the reason for the disappearance cannot be confirmed, CDX- CRW received a report that the KSM ordered an immediate end to the station`s transmissions earlier this week. The KSM, however, did not respond to a inquiry asking them to confirm or deny this report. CDX-CRW have also learned that the operator of KSMR, 'Major' Steve Anderson, may possibly return to the air with a new station. This operation may be a militia-supported station, but may have a different callsign and fewer, if any, ties to the KSM. KSMR broadcast nightly on 3260 kilohertz USB with as much as 800 watts. Anderson planned to relay other programmers, including the Genesis Communications Network via satellite, but the relays failed to materialize. Instead, listeners only heard Anderson`s own show called "The Militia Hour." Recent programs included purported coded messages. Regardless of any legacy left by the operation, "KSMR made history" says George Zeller, widely regarded as an authority on unlicensed broadcasting. "[T]his was the first clandestine station on short wave that has ever transmitted on a regular schedule from a USA transmitter, with a target area in the USA." Glenn - The Spring 2001 edition of TWR Listening World is confirming that the station is dropping satellite coverage for Europe and replacing it with a digital service on Sky Digital channel 953, which will only be available in the UK. The station is currently researching ways of reaching mainland Europe on satellite or digital. The Sky digital service starts on Sunday 25th of March and is on 24 hours a day. TWR Europe is making assurances that Short and Medium wave broadcasts will also continue to Europe. The Spring schedule is: Time UT kHz 0655 - 0920 9870, 6045 Mon - Fri 0645 - 0920 9870, 6045 Sat & Sun 2200 - 2345 1467 (Mick Knapton, Sheffield, England, March 23, DX LISTENING DIGEST) We haven`t previously listed TWR under USA [non], but that is really the place for it in accordance with other US-based missionary outfits using a variety of transmitter sites elsewhere.
