Astronaut Chuck Brady, N4BQW, continues to be active daily during various times mainly on 20/15/10 meters. His suggested frequencies are: 3795, 7095, 14195 (Rx split 14200-14210), 21295 (Rx split 21300-21310) and 28495 kHz (Rx split 28500-28510). Also mentioned were 1.8 MHz and 50 MHz which will become operational later and only by pre-arrangement with 3Y0C. His activity has been mainly SSB, but when asked about CW he replied that it will also be covered later. Currently, Chuck is running 700 watts into a G5RV antenna. He has Yagi beams, but these will be installed later. His pilot station is Dennis Wells, ZS1AU. QSL via WA4FFW. Also, watch the following Web page for updates: http://www.qsl.net/zr1dq (KB8NW/OPDX December 25/BARF-80 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BRAZIL. QSL Letter from 2460, Rádio Alvorada, Rio Branco, Acre, received in 342 days; heard on DXpedition in Palmas, Santa Catarina, January 2000. I had considered it a lost cause, but sent a follow-up in November. I used the address in WRTH. E-mail address mentioned in the letter is: severian@mdnet.com.br V/S José Severiano (Rudolf W. Grimm, DX Clube do Brasil, Dec 24, radioescutas, translated by gh for DXLD) ** CANADA. Freely translated from RCI`s French mailbag "Le courrier mondial" on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000: "Beginning in January, RCI will carry one more hour of live in-house English-language programming." There was no mention of what the target area is and when the program will be heard (Ricky Leong, QC, Dec 25, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GEORGIA. 11805.2, Georgian Radio, 0633 Dec 25 in English, ID and schedule given by woman. This was followed by a program narrated by a man that included Georgian music. Interval Signal and signoff at 0659. Signal was strong but unstable, varying between 11805.26 at the beginning to 11805.18 by the end of the broadcast. Audio was slightly muddy yet understandable. 73, (Mark J. Fine, VA, swltalk via DXLD) ** JORDAN. Ali, JY4NE, has been active on 10 meters between 28400 and 28420 kHz between 1230 and 1530z. He then moves to 20 meters after 2300z. QSL via KB6NAN (KB8NW/OPDX December 25/BARF-80 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** KOREA NORTH. The much anticipated operation which was going to take place next week (January 7th) may not happen. "The Daily DX" reported the following this week: "The much-anticipated multi- national North Korean operation, which was announced in mid October, which was first scheduled for late October then early January 2001, has been scrapped. The North Korean Organization for Army support is now refusing the use of any transmitting equipment during the Official Opening of the Educational center, which was scheduled to take place on January 7, 2001. Obviously this is a disappointment to the organizers of P5UK and the DX community." (KB8NW/OPDX December 25/BARF-80 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** LEBANON. Puzant, OD5NH, in Beirut has been active on 75/17/12/10 meters during the past week. Check 10 and 12 meters on SSB between 1530 and 1730z. Check 18145 kHz after 1730z. He was heard on 3799 kHz around 0045z. QSL via: Puzant Azirian, P.O. Box 80903, Beirut, Lebanon. OD5NJ was also active. He was 28515 for about an hour between 1430 and 1530z (KB8NW/OPDX December 25/BARF-80 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MALAWI. Kaz, 7Q7KZ, has been active on 21290 and 28450 kHz. Check after 1200z and again after 1800z. QSL via JA2LZF (KB8NW/OPDX December 25/BARF-80 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PALESTINE. On the Air: Mid East Tensions Force Ham To Leave A British ham who has been on the air from a disputed middle east geographic area has been force to flee due to unrest in the region. Jeramy Boot, G4NJH, has the details from Nottingham in the UK: Peter, E4/G3WQU, reports "with deep regret" from Palestine that "it has become impossible to continue operating from Beit Jala, near Bethlehem". His location was in the middle of the recent gunfights and he has already moved away. In the next couple of months he is expecting to be reassigned to a new country with his United Nations job. Peter thanks everyone for the great time he had operating from Palestine, where he made 23,683 QSOs on CW - and three on SSB. Jeramy Boot, G4NJH While the nation of Palestine really does not exist on any map, it does in our world of ham radio. This is because the International Telecommunications Union says it does. Back on February 1st, 1999 the ITU, which is an arm of the United Nations assigned the call sign block E 4 to the Palestinian Authority. The Authority in turn began issuing Amateur Radio operating authority to people under it's sphere of political influence. Since then a number of E 4 prefix stations have come on the air from what might be called an ITU created ham radio only nation (G4NJH, Amateur Radio Newsline Dec 22 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DXLD) ** SOUTH AFRICA/U S A. VoA 15.215 06.00 UTC in English sio 444./ blocking reception of Channel Africa this seems to be a new freq for the VOA at this time in English. A very fine tuning on my Sony ICF made the difference (Costas Constantinides, Cyprus, Dec 25, DX LISTENING DIGEST) IBB sked does not show any VOA or other usage of 15215 at this time, when I often hear ChAf too (gh) ** SPAIN: Completo esquema de Radio Exterior de España, vigente del 29/10/00 al 25/03/01: Europa: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0600-0800 9735 Espanol Diario 0600-0900 12035 Espanol Diario 0900-1700 15585 Espanol Diario 1340-1355 15585 Dialectos Lun a Vie 1700-1730 15195 Ruso Lun a Vie 1700-2100 9665 Espanol Domingos 1700-2200 9665 Espanol Sabados 1700-2300 7275 Espanol Diario 1730-1800 9665 Aleman Lun a Jue 1800-1900 9665 Frances Lun a Vie 2000-2100 9680 Ingles Lun a Vie 2200-2300 9680 Ingles Sab y Dom Medio Oriente: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0500-0700 11890 Espanol Diario 0900-1700 21610 Espanol Diario 1700-1900 21610 Arabe Diario 1825-1855 17770 Sefardi Lunes 1900-2000 7150 Frances Lun a Vie 1900-2000 12035 Frances Sab y Dom 1900-2100 12035 Arabe Lun a Vie 2000-2200 12035 Arabe Sab y Dom 2200-2300 7270 Espanol Diario Norte de Africa: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 1900-2000 9595 Frances Lun a Sab 1900-2100 7270 Arabe Lun a Vie 2000-2200 7270 Arabe Sabados 2105-2200 7270 Arabe Domingos 2105-2200 9595 Frances Domingos Africa Ecuatorial: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0900-1500 21540 Espanol Diario 1500-1900 17755 Espanol Lun a Sab 1500-2100 17755 Espanol Domingos Guinea Ecuatorial: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 1600-1700 15385 Espanol Lun a Sab 1600-1700 17755 Espanol Diario Africa: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0700-0900 21610 Espanol Diario 1900-2000 9595 Frances Lun a Sab 2000-2100 9595 Ingles Lun a Vie 2105-2200 9595 Frances Domingos 2200-2300 9595 Ingles Sab y Dom Australia HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0700-0900 17770 Espanol Diario Japon: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 1000-1200 B-9660 Espanol Diario Filipinas: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 1200-1400 X-11910 Espanol Diario America del Sur: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0115-0145 11795 Sefardi Martes 0800-0400 C-11815 Espanol Diario 0800-1700 21570 Espanol Lun a Vie 1000-1300 C-11815 Espanol Lun a Vie 1000-1700 21570 Espanol Sab y Dom 1200-2100 21700 Espanol Domingos 1200-2200 21700 Espanol Sabados 1200-2300 C-15125 Espanol Domingos 1340-1355 21570 Dialectos Lun a Vie 1500-1800 21700 Espanol Lun a Vie 1600-2300 C-15125 Espanol Sabados 1700-1900 17715 Espanol Diario 2300-0200 11945 Espanol Diario 2300-0500 9620 Espanol Diario 2300-0500 15160 Espanol Diario America Central: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0115-0145 11795 Sefardi Martes 0200-0600 C-9630 Espanol Diario 1000-1300 17595 Espanol Lun a Vie 1100-1400 C-5970 Espanol Lun a Vie 1200-1500 C-5970 Espanol Domingos 1200-2100 21700 Espanol Domingos 1200-2200 21700 Espanol Sabados 1440-1455 C-5970 Dialectos Lun a Vie 1500-1800 21700 Espanol Lun a Vie 1500-2300 C-9765 Espanol Domingos 1600-2300 C-9765 Espanol Sabados 2300-0500 9540 Espanol Diario 2300-0500 15160 Espanol Diario America Norte: HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA DIAS 0000-0200 6055 Ingles Diario 0200-0500 6055 Espanol Diario 0200-0600 11880 Espanol Diario 0415-0445 9690 Sefardi Martes 0500-0556 6055 Ingles Diario 1000-1300 17595 Espanol Lun a Vie 1100-1400 C-15170 Espanol Lun a Vie 1200-1500 C-15170 Espanol Domingos 1300-1500 17595 Espanol Lun a Vie 1440-1455 C-15170 Dialectos Lun a Vie 1440-1455 17595 Dialectos Lun a Vie 1500-2300 C-17850 Espanol Domingos 1600-2300 C-17850 Espanol Sabados 1900-2300 15110 Espanol Diario 2300-2400 6055 Frances Diario 2300-0500 9540 Espanol Diario Nota: Dialectos (Catalan, Gallego y Vasco). Last night after 2300 Radio Vatican was active on 4005, carrying mass coverage with voice-over (I cannot tell the language) // 1611 but not // 1530 which had English voice-over instead. 5883 was off, no other frequencies found during a quick bandscan. The signal on 4005 was mediocre, especially weaker than after 0400 during the regular Croatian transmission via Santa Maria di Galeria, so this was probably the transmitter within Vatican City. I also found Strasbourg 1278 with a mass in both French and German, no doubt live from Strasbourg, instead Radio Bleue from Paris which is otherwise carried here at night (Kai Ludwig, Germany, Dec 25, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** VIETNAM. There is plenty of activity from here. Shim, XV3AA, has been active on 15 meters SSB. Check around 21220 and 21270 kHz after 0000z. QSL via JA6UGH.
