Shari`ah, 1305-1313, Definitely Koran to 1307, not audible then for a minute or 2. Back w/M vcl mx. Extremely weak w/Ham and growling QRM. Drifted down from 7084.45 to 7083.51 by 1430. (29 Oct.) On 7085.04v, V.O. Shari`ah, *1257-1542+, Was sitting on the freq when the signal suddenly popped on w/carrier. M tlk began pgm 1258- 1300, into mx at 1300. At 1506 mid-east mx w/vcl by M. Right when M anncr came on, a jammer appeared on 7080 presumably to interfere w/Mojahed. Also getting slop QRM from jammer on 7105 as well!! EG pgm 1530-1545 starting w/nice EG ID by M over mx "This is Voice of Shari`ah English program, welcome ??". Then Afghan and region nx. Another ID during the nx at 1538 as "You`re listening to the Voice of Shari`ah from Afghanistan", and then another possible ID ending the nx at 1542. Group chanting followed. Glad to get the ID and in EG!!! Ham was whistling and "Ah ah ah"ing at 1536 right on top of them!! Hrd daily, but this seemed to be the best day. Always drifting down considerably, and was down to 7082.17 by 1700. (30 Oct.) PELE DXPEDITION The location of this DXpedition was Arja Farms Orchid Tree Estate at Captain Cook Hawaii (Big Island). The dates were 28 October to 4 November 2000. Used the JRC NRD-535D receiver and co-Dxpeditioner Hans Johnson used his Drake R-8. The antennas I used were 2 mini-Beverages of 200' at 270 degrees and 300 degrees, while Hans used dipoles for 60 and 49 meters. Besides cassette recorders, headphones, and Hans` antenna switch/tuner, no other accessories were used (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core- dx via DXLD) ** BANGLADESH. 15520.08, Bangladesh Betar, 1240-1258, EG pgms, lcl mx, nx, and features, sev. IDs. Terribly distorted. Modulation level varying a lot as well. First time noted this. Irregular. As bad as the signals are, I wouldn`t be surprised if this country/stn disappears from the SW bands in the not-too-distant future. (4 Nov.) (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** CANADA. I fear Ivan missed his chance at a SW début; CFRX 6070 checked Sat Nov 11 around 1230 seemed still open carrier (gh, OK, DXLD) ** CHIAPAS [non]. I Am: Michael DeWitt Adams aka Commandante Null of the EZLN 2711 Belaire Cr. Doraville, Ga 30340 Phone 770-457-6758 My Extra Class FCC call sign is AE4FB (20wpm not the new Extra Light) You can look me up on QRZ. This is what I get when I try to post under Commandante Null: "Sorry, but you do not have permission to post this topic. Either your posting privileges have been removed or you are trying to post to a forum that has limitations on the types of members that can post to it." Censorship or Not? I have been a clandestine operator and clandestine communications consultant for 25 odd years. All my clandestine activities have been outside the United States and not subject to FCC rules. I only came here to FRN because one of my programs was re-broadcast by pirates. I am not a pirate and don't intend to become one as that would violate FCC rules and jeopardize my extra class ham radio license. I also don't care to be a pirate after my exposure to the people on FRN who are apparently associated with this "Hobby?". A great percentage of you appear to be disgustingly rude and ignorant people. But most of all: I AM NOT RADIO BOB! ... [For rest of his complaint see http://metropolis.de/freeradio.html ] Ever So Sincerely, Col. Michael D. (Mad Mike) Adams MAF Rtd. Eastern Cuba bandscan from Exuma, southern Bahamas: Jay, excellent report! Is it on a website I may refer people to for the whole thing including audio links?? (gh, to Jay Novello) Thanks, Glenn. Yes, it's online at http://havana.iwsp.com/radio/exuma/ 73, (Jay Novello, Nov 11, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA/SPAIN. In DX, a round of applause for new 6 meter record set during a brief opening the morning of November 7th. That's when Cuban VHF DXer Arnie Coro, CO2KK, established the first ever two way contacts between Cuba and Spain. Just before 1600 UTC, Arnie was on CW and contacted EH7GTF. This was followed by the first ever SSB contact with EH7KW near Sevilla. Arnie says that he also heard backscatter bursts from stations in Montserrat but did not work them. He says that they were running high power and beaming to the West Coast. (VHF Reflector via Newsline November 10 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. Arnie Coro, CO2KK, broadcasts a programme called `CQ DX Unlimited` over Radio Havana Cuba. The programme, which is in English, is aimed mainly at short wave listeners and beginners in amateur radio. Arnie has a particular interest in 50 MHz, so there is always a good section on propagation, and he is also interested in experiments taking place on the 136 kHz amateur band on both sides of the Atlantic. CQ DX Unlimited is broadcast on Tuesdays at 2115 to 2130 UTC following the news broadcast, on 13750 kHz AM and 13660 kHz SSB. Peter Dodd, G3LDO, reports that last week's broadcast on 13750 kHz was received at S9+20dB. (Radio Society of Great Britain GB2RS News November 12 via John Norfolk, OKCOK) And to think that for years I thought the name of the program was DXers Unlimited... (Norfolk, DXLD) ** EUROPE. Test from Europe to USA from Radio Sunflower: Sorry for this late message. But hope you will understand that we must take care. Not everyone is a free radio lover and can use the information like date, time and frequency. This evening we will try at 00.00 UTC on 15810 kHz. Saturday we will try by daylight on 21485 or 21865 from 15.00 UTC. Sunday we try again on 15810 kHz from 04.00 UTC. Hope somebody can receive us. You can mention about the reception on this page, from time to time we read this page during the broadcastings. For a QSL please write a reception report to the Ytterby adress. Good luck (via Hans-Joachim Koch`s Free Radio Homepage http://metropolis.de/freeradio.html tipped by Yimber Gaviria, Nov 11) No luck here Nov 11 at 1500 on either frequency (gh, OK, DXLD) ** GABON. 7271.0, RTV Gabon, *0454-0500, Already on w/instru. FRANCE -- RFI is back on from Montsinéry since at least Nov. 7 with its 1/2 hour Spanish program for the Americas on 17,630 and 21,645 at 1800. The transmission is repeated at 2100 UT. They are no longer on at 1400, which was my favorite time to listen to them. I really missed their broadcasts. Too bad they refuse to beam English to us, but for listeners who understand Spanish, RFI is a real treat (Marty Delfin, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nov 11, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 4970, AIR Shillong, 1230, Hindi ID by W, EG ID by M w/opening of EG mx pgm "This is the Northeastern Service of All India Radio broadcasting from Shillong on shortwave 60.36 meters corresponding to 4970 kilohertz", song by Maxi Priest "Wild World" (remake of Cat Stevens hit), then Indian version of what sounded like the Tom Jones song "If I Only Knew", song anmnts, another song by Bread, Carpenters, song anmnts, song by Eddie Grant "Joanna". Freedom of Jammu Kashmir, *1300-1305, Upbeat patriotic vcl song, very brief prayer-like tlk, short s/on anmnt, then into prayers mixed w/M anncr. In EG at 1403 recheck w/cmntry, ending at 1406, choral singing 1407-1409. Weak but there and amid QRM from UTE above. (29 Oct.) On 5101.14 CLANDESTINE V.O. Freedom of Jammu Kashmir, 1402-1407, EG segment consisting of just a cmntry, definitely anti-US/UN and pro-Islamic slant. Into choral March song. Good w/usual UTE below. (30 Oct.) On 5101.12 CLANDESTINE V.O. Freedom of Jammu Kashmir, 1401, Usual EG segment/cmntry beginning w/intro sounding like "This is V.O. Freedom of Jammu and Kashmir. (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** MALDIVE ISLANDS. Subject: MALDIVES VERIFIED! Normally I would wait to post this in the appropriate columns/publications, but feel I need to be a little grand about this. The mail person brought what I've been waiting for twenty years to finally arrive. A verification reply from the Voice of Maldives. This report was posted by my brother on a recent trip to the Czech Republic on/about October the 18th. The reply came today...25 days to reply. The verification consisted of my Prepared Verification Cards, signed and stamped, enclosed using my Self-addressed stamped envelope. The official seal of the Radio Maldives was posted with an illegible signature. On the envelope this notation was posted: "Maldives Official Host Miss World 2000 Beachware" [sic -or, I suppose beachware would be beach material not limited to clothing... gh]. I'm taking the wife out for supper...she's pleased, so am I that I can finally close the chapter on this one! (Edward Kusalik, Alberta, ODXA Nov 10 via DXLD) ** MOZAMBIQUE. 15293.96, R. Moçambique (presumed), 1300-1346, 5+1 time ticks, 3 note NBC-like chime, very brief anmnt by W probably TC, pause, 7 note nx signature, M w/nx in definite PT of course to 1306, mx bridge, into mx w/W hosting. A ton of canned anmnts 1340-1345, more soft mx. I`m amazed this can be audible in Hawaii but not in PA!!! Already a het there at 1023 next day 4 Nov. (3 Nov.) (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** MYANMAR. 4725, R. Myanmar, 1332-1340, EG talk by woman about responsibilities of school headmasters to 1339, pgm outro in another lang., more talk. Extremely clear 100% copy!!! Gone at 1352. Tnx Hans who reaffirmed my hit list that this EG segment is Fridays only. (3 Nov.) (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** NEPAL. 5005.04, R. Nepal, 1415, Of course EG nx by M beginning w/ID by M. Always strong but low modulation. This would be much easier even in eastern NA if they increased the modulation. (3 Nov.) (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** NEW ZEALAND. Radio New Zealand International's relay of National Radio on 17,675 kHz comes in strong here in the Caribbean after 0400 UT and continuing way past 0700. Monitored the signal every night from Nov. 7-10 with no interference and little noise. Even picked it up on my tiny Sangean 606 using only the whip (Marty Delfin, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nov 11, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NEW ZEALAND. Subject: NZ digital TV: Glenn Hauser`s BBC report of note. NZ digital is an interim first step, means existing analogue programming for national networks TV1 and TV2 will parallel feed into an Optus Ku band satellite service. Plans to shut down the analogue 45.25 services are not far advanced and I am confident these "beacons" will still be with us in sunspot cycle 24! Regards, (Bob Cooper, New Zealand, Nov 11, WTFDA via DXLD) ** PAKISTAN. 7267.11, R. Pakistan, 1207-1215*, M w/nx in Urdu, W w/EG ID 1211, more nx(?) by M, W w/ID and tlk to 1213, March song (NA??), and gone. Decent signal. (30 oct.) On 7321.42, R. Pakistan, Peshawar (pres.), 1331, Could definitely hear M tlk, and strange repetitive drum mx at 1336-1341, then M again. Dead air briefly, and vcl mx by M. Very very weak w/splatter QRM from 7315 CH. A het at 1210 on 31 Oct. but not before 1200, so s/on probably 1200. Not on at 1420 on 1 Nov., so 1400* no doubt. Apparently the only way to get Peshawar now. (30 Oct.) (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** PUERTO RICO. Lt. Jeff Gordon, spokesman for the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Ceiba, Puerto Rico denied a local newspaper report that the AFRTS station here was created "to taunt" Puerto Ricans with the continued Navy presence on the disputed island municipality of Vieques, where bombing maneuvers continue. Gordon said that AFRTS is aimed for naval personnel at sea in this area and those stationed at Rosy Roads, as it is popularly known here. It's not exactly known how many of them tune in to AFRTS on 6,458.5 (Marty Delfin, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nov 11, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** RUSSIA. 4940, R. Mix Master, 1048-1057, Russian Rock/Pop mx, canned ads or promo anmnts by alternating M and W, another one w/ment of "radio". More mx, more canned ads/promos including one w/nice clear ID at 1056. (Dave Valko, Pele DXpedition, BIHI, hard-core-dx via DXLD) ** SOLOMON ISLANDS. Haven't seen much on the Solomon Islands crisis in the papers, but here's a piece. 73- (Bill Westenhaver) Ragtag rebels hold the Happy Isles hostage By GREG ROBERTS 2000-11-11 The Solomon Islands peace deal reached in Townsville last month is under strain. TRT Izmir was unbelievably strong last night (10/11/00) on 5562 (6 x 927) at 2040 ut wailing mx and pips at 2100 then nx, not in//with 9445 or 9460 or 9450 khz. I would be very interested to hear if 5562 khz has made it across the Atlantic. 73's (tim bucknall, uk, harmonics@egroups.com via DXLD) ** U K. Leonids Meteor Shower Occurs This Week For this year's Leonids meteor shower, which should be observable around Thursday the 16th, Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th of November, Trevor Sanderson, G4OEY, and colleagues in the Space Science Department at the European Space Agency's Technical and Research Centre have made arrangements with the BBC's service provider, Merlin Communications, to leave one of their 17640 kHz World Service transmitters switched on from 2000 to 0400 UTC on the nights of Monday the 13th to Sunday the 19th of November. This transmitter is normally only transmitting from 0700 to 1500 UTC. More details can be found on the ESA's web site, and there's a link from the RSGB's site at http://www.rsgb.org Anyone within the skip zone of the transmitter with suitable equipment - such as a general-coverage receiver with SSB mode, a good antenna, and a PC with suitable software - should be able to use the Doppler Method to detect the meteors. G4OEY described the Peter Martínez, G3PLX, method of using the Doppler effect to detect reflections of radio signals from the Leonid meteor shower in the March 2000 issue of RadCom, and the original article by G3PLX can be found in the May 1998 RadCom. Suitable free software can be downloaded from the web site of Bev, G3URZ / CT1EGC, and a link is provided from the RSGB web site. Unfortunately the freeware does not allow files to be stored, but with the fully-licensed software the programme can be left running overnight and the results stored in a file. Tests conducted on a sporadic meteor stream a week ago gave echoes in the early hours of the morning of around 50 per hour. Expected Leonids echoes will be much higher during the shower time and the best results this week are also likely to occur in the early hours of the morning (Radio Society of Great Britain GB2RS News November 12 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DXLD) ** U K [non]. `LBH Radio - The Scene` is the name of a new radio station which has started broadcasting to Europe from the high-power Russian transmitter on 1386 kHz. English-language programmes start at 2200 UTC and are believed to continue until 0300. The programmes, mainly of music, cater to the gay community. The station is asking for reception reports to be sent to LBH Radio, Studio House, 21 - 23 Walton Road, Frinton-on-Sea, Essex CO13 0AA (Radio Society of Great Britain GB2RS News November 12 via John Norfolk, OKCOK, DXLD) ** U S A.
