G'Day, Following a conversation today with the Admin manager of Christian Voice (Australia), Mr Mike Edmiston, at their Admin Office, Noosa Heads, Queensland: He confirmed they are testing the Cox Peninsula transmitters. Frequencies in use are: 21680; 17775; 13755; 6010. The six high power units will be tested for a month ("doing the technicals") then short announcements are to be put on air "announcing our arrival into Asia". In the future some program material will be taken off satellite feed from the UK which is intended for their African audience. Recruitment for permanent staff is still under way and the position of Senior Technician is still to be filled. The Chief Engineer (UK), Mr Andrew Flynn, is currently in Darwin to oversee the commissioning of the facility. Christian Voice can be contacted on : christianvoice@dingoblue.net.au Cheers (Chris Martin, Brisbane, hard-core-dx Oct 13, via DXLD) What about RA relays? Has anything definite been decided about this? (gh, DXLD) ** AUSTRALIA. RA Network Manager Jean-Michel Manguy guested on this week`s Feedback, UT Fri 2105 heard via webcast; I never heard Cox Peninsula or Darwin mentioned, but in generalities he said: Hope to be back on in Asia effectively in the New Year; planning not only on SW but also satellite. Priority goes to Asian languages over English; strategy will be shorter broadcasts throughout the day rather than big blocks. Trying to pick best times and sites, taking into account what others are doing. But there will be more hours of English than had been expected. The enhanced service to Asia will free up some frequencies, allowing service to the Pacific also to be improved. New series starting next weekend: ``Lines of Communication``, 13 perspectives [and weeks?], Fridays 1830, Saturdays 0530, Sundays 0030, 2130; on WRN, Sundays 0705. Show`s website: http://www.abc.net.au/comms [corrected, not /au] Next week`s Feedback will have news on the special Olympic QSLs. [I heard previously that there were far too many reports for the 200 or so printed, so there will be a drawing -gh] (RA Feedback Oct 13, notes by gh for DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BRAZIL [non]. UK BBC "Waveguide" Oct edition is aired on theme "Broadcasting in Brazil": Sat Oct 21st 0145 EaAS, 0330 EUR & AM, 0345 SoAS, 0645 ME, CIS, CeAS, Gulf, Ea&SoAF, 0745 EUR, 0845 WeAF; Sun Oct 22nd 1945 WeAF; Mon Oct 23rd 0345 ME, Gulf, CIS & CeAS, 0945 Ea&SoAF. (Rumen Pankov, Bulgaria, Sep 26, BC-DX via DXLD) ** BRASIL. Nova R. Relógio, October 14, 0815 on 4904.58 kHz, thanks to many tips from DXLD issues, I heard time pips, time check by YL "Esta é XX minutos, zero segundo" and simple ID "Rádio Relógio." for quite 22 years here in Japan!!! (Shoji YAMADA, Tokyo, Japan, RNM via DXLD) ** BULGARIA. R. Bulgaria B-00 in ENGLISH from P=Plovdiv; - ANN: "This is Radio Bulgaria" 0000-0100 NAm 7400 P 500/295, 9400 P 500/306 0300-0400 NAm 7400 P 500/295, 9400 P 500/306 1200-1300 WEu 15700 P 500/306, 17500 P 250/292 2000-2100 WEu 7200 P 500/295, 7500 P 500/306 2200-2300 WEu 7200 P 500/295, 7500 P 500/306 (Observer, Bulgaria via DXLD) ** CANADA. The production staff at The Messenger have not done the elderly and partially sighted any favoures by bringing out a multi- coloured 8-pager which may be a nightmare to read for many. Each page has a solid heavy coloured back ground so one gets black on dark-blue merging into purple, black on gold, black on green and also on hashed backgrounds with general text down to 6-point with an article about the mountains in Yunnan down to 5-point. OK, if you are known as ``hawkeye``, but for the rest!!! No doubt the station`s letter writers will bombard the editor with praise giving a 55555 for production, presentation, style, content and overall appearance – a carnival of colour; others will find it hard going (World DX Club Contact, Oct, via DXLD) ** IRAN [non]. New schedule of Radio Iran of Tomorrow in Farsi effective Sept. 24: 1800-1830 (ex 1700-1730) on 5830 (54454) via Db/Tajikistan 1830-1900 additional program on 12055 (43333) via KCH/Moldova, QRM Radio Cairo on 12050 (Observer, Bulgaria, Oct 15 via DXLD) So the BBCM schedule recently was completely outdated... (gh) ** LIBYA. V. of Africa, 17725, Oct. 7, surprised to find English here at 0205-0215, ID and news. Never knew them to have English at this time; you never know when it will show up on this station. Have not checked for other English broadcasts lately. Very strong and no distortion. Never heard them this well before (Brian Alexander, PA, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MAURITANIA. R. Mauritania noted back on 4845.00, Oct 7 0010-0101*, solid signal the past two weeks with no drifting. But I know this won`t last very long. Heard with Arabic talk, Arabic music, Koran. S/off with NA, after which R. K`ekchí, Guatemala was heard until its 0159* (Brian Alexander, PA, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERÚ. R. Estéreo (presumed), October 14, 1056 on 4338.97 kHz, heard new Peruvian here in Japan thanks to a tip from Mohrmann via DXLD. Around 1100 "La Voz de la Liberación". Bienvenidos a la programación del día de hoy. Brindamos a sintonizar inmediatos programas que se inician en estos instantes. Bienvenidos." Then OM talk with huayno ayacuchano "Puro Sentimiento" (guitar solo by Raúl García Zarate). OM said "... transmitiendo desde Av. Ramón Castilla 256." (Shoji YAMADA, Tokyo, Japan, RNM via DXLD) ** PERÚ. =NEW STATIONS= 5235.5 Radio La Voz de Abancay, Abancay; was first observed on 29/SEP/2000, during my stay in Abancay. This page has some interesting history on Radio Hargeisa: http://www.dm.unipi.it/~jama/mypage/idaacadda.html (Hans Johnson, Oct 6, Cumbre DX via DXLD) ** TAIWAN. RTI will soon add Burmese, and plans to add more languages, especially concerning countries with trade relations. The station is overstaffed at 550 after a merger. Unlike many SW stations, does not plan any cutbacks (Olivia Pan, Spanish section manager, RTI, inteviewed by Jeff White months ago, Radio Enlace Oct 13, summary translation by gh for DXLD) ** TURKEY. Additional new freqs of Voice of Turkey for B-00 period (c.f.Observer#87): 6020 0400-0455 in English to NAm, ex registered 6010 6140 USB 1930-2025 in English to Eu, ex registered 6175 7125 1930-2025 in English to Eu, ex registered 6180 17690 1330-1425 in English to AUS, ex registered 17685 (Observer, Bulgaria, Oct 15 via DXLD) English only excerpted ** U S A. WRMI, 15725, playing more classical music to fill time, Oct 13 at 2106; ID at 2128 and 2131 into SC preacher (no, not that one) and off by 2200. Nice clear signal, no jamming yet. Not heard on Saturday, as planned (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. Re WBCQ`s projected move from 9330 to 9335, I notice someone else is already there: North Korea, a couple loggings in Oct World DX Club Contact; at 1900 in English says Paul Watson in Swindon, and at 2219 //7505 per Doug Sharrard in Leicester. The ABI site has a Sept 1999 schedule showing 9335 in use to Europe from 1500 to 2250 in French, Korean, Spanish and English. Once again on Fri Oct 13 on 9330-CUSB, WOR was not broadcast at 2030, but CMN was on early around 2055 check. Caught part of Allan Weiner Worldwide UT Sat Oct 14 at 0000 on 7415: now has more direct address of allanhw@hotmail.com to make public. Fred Flintstone show will go off at end of Oct; Adventures in Popular Music has already ended, and Brian the host called in to deliver his tearful farewell. Tom and Darrell is down to one hour UT Sun 0400, and in danger of going off due to lack of funding (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** Re: U S A. Re: Dear DX Friends, I noted KBLI-1620 in Blackfoot, ID very strong with a talk show and ID at 2300 EDT last night 8/23. On the hour the announcer IDed for affiliates KICN and KECN only, then SRN News. I suspect it might have been running 10 kW. 73, (Larry Godwin, Missoula, MT, NRC-AM via DXLD) I don't quite understand all this stuff, but KBLI-AM no longer exists- the company changed the call letters to KICN and moved the station to 1260 AM. That`s why the ID was only for "the Talk Twins KECN 690 and KICN 1260" BTW, the announcer's name is Carl Watkins, just in case you wanted to know (Benjamin Rippel, Oct 13, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** VATICAN. Just listened to World of Radio 1054 on World Radio Network. My apologies for a typo - well below average in the Daily Telegraph report should have read well above average, the story is up on their web edition if you search under Vatican Radio. That "dangerous throwing of things" is as written though! (Mike Barraclough, UK, Oct 14, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** VIETNAM. 6165, Dia Tieng Noi; Hanoi, Oct. 13, 2235-2300*, Excellent signal tonight, 44344. Program consisted of (soft) music, with very brief announcements by female in Hmong. Vietnam mentioned. Slow tune towards 2300, followed by short announcement with another mention of Vietnam. Then off. (Mark Veldhuis, Holland, hard-core-dx via DXLD) UNIDENTIFIED. Hi Glenn: Since Oct. 3, I have heard a new, intermittent LA broadcast station on 4600.4. Here are the details: 4600.4, 1000–1045, Regional folk music with vocals. Spanish speaking male announcer. Low signal strength, unable to ID, peaking at 1003, quite a bit down by 1020, and only a faint carrier by 1045. I’ve heard this one, only when conditions are above average. I speculate that this could be R Perla del Acre, from Bolivia, reactivated. Take care, (David Hodgson, TN, Oct 13, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 7357, *1800-2300* daily. Male announcer with long Arabic talks and many references to "Filistine" (= Palestine in Arabic). Lots of Arabic music and songs. What could have been an identification was heard at 2230 on the 7th but not understood. In view of the troubles in that area, could this be V of Palestine/V of Palestine Liberation - possibly relayed from Iran as it has been in the past? Programme ends with a muffled National Anthem at 2300. Good Signal. SINPO=44444. (Mike Ford, England, Oct. 7th, 8th & 9th, Cumbre DX via DXLD) +++++HUNTING HARMONICS+++++ Hi all, today`s logs 15/10/00, MUF 35 MHz 30500 R Romania Intl (2 x 15250) 1100 utc 14760 V of Russia German svc (2 x 7380) 1654 14940 V of Russia ee px (10 x 1494) 1653 19700 R Cairo (2 x 9850) 1608 19080 Uzbek R (2 x 9540) 1614 18980 R Rossii (2 x 9490) 1626 23660 R Romania Domestic px (2 x 11830) 1633 19280 R Ukraine Int (2 x 9640) 1604 19430 Uzbek R (2 x 9715) 1606 19620 V of Russia ff px (2 x 9810) 1608 19360 RFE/RL (2 x 9680) 1610, presumably this from the Sri Lanka tx as unlikely Biblis would be radiating harmonic.
