FOUNDATION BIRDS

I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS BIRD. SHE PRODUCED 110 YOUNG BIRDS IN 9 YEARS ON 10 DIFFERENT COCK BIRDS. HER SONS, DAUGHTERS, GRANDSONS, GRANDDAUGHTERS, GREAT GRANDSONS & GREAT GRANDDAUGHTERS ARE STOCKED IN LOFTS FROM MAINE TO CALIFORNIA.

THE FOUNDATION IS WHAT YOU BUILD ON

In the air or on the ground your Foundation Stock, what you choose to breed from, will show its good points & faults. That is why it is so important to be very selective in what you bring back into your Breeding Loft after you have settled on a family of Birds. Even your best pairs will not raise all good birds. I firmly believe that a goal of 40% is very realistic. There are some pairs that will go above this but very few. Be wary of people who make wild claims & don't fly competitions to back up those claims. You don't have to fly in competitions to have good birds but it is a very good way to prove how your Birds rate with the rest. I started flying in competitions in 1991. I had people tell me I had good Birds and I felt they were pretty fair Birds but I still wanted to see how they were compared to the rest of the hobby. I have done quite well but I only get to fly in 3 major flys a year. That means that the other 362 days of the year I'm the judge of not only the birds but also the judge of the guy who is breeding the birds. In other words I can't put all the blame on the birds because I'm the one responsible for who feeds them, who stocked them and who made the choice of pairs to breed from.
