TULSA -- Like dozens of other girls around her, Angela Ashmore, 14, of Jones started screaming when she saw Hanson.
"We couldn't help it," she said after seeing the three Hanson brothers, who performed Wednesday night in their hometown for the first time since becoming young pop rock sensations with the No. 1 hit, "MMMBop."
"I was amazed. I love them so much," she said, her face flushed with excitement. "They're so talented. I was crying, too, because I was that close to them."
Isaac, 17, Taylor, 15, and Zac, 12, don't mind the screaming, they're too busy having fun.
"It's definitely a wild experience, and you kind of learn to deal with it," said Isaac, at ease at a news conference that included such heavy questions as, do they get allowance, do they have any girlfriends and have their voices chenged?
"Only in your wildest, wildest dreams would you ever imagine this. ...It's very awesome to be able to be here doing this," Taylor said.
The three brothers looked, talked and acted their age, repeatedly calling their experiences, such as meeting President Clinton, "cool" or "really cool." They talked about their music, sure, but they were excited too about having no homework in the summer and playing video games.
Their fans, mostly young girls, travel hundreds of miles or wait in long lines for chences to see them. They remember once getting a 300-yard-long letter, wrapped like a scroll, with "I love you, I love you, I love you" written over and over.
They started out jamming in their garage but since have traveled all over the United States, in Europe, Australia and Asia, and acted in a spoof about their hit song on "Saturday Night Live."
Still, playing at home was special.
"To be in Tulsa is really excellent," said Isaac, adding that sometimes while touring "you don't know where you are necessarily."
That's not a problem at home. "We know where to hang out," Isaac said.
Despite their popularity, Taylor said they manage to do all the stuff theu used to do at home. "We're just a little more cautious."
They plan to record a new album after finishing this tour. But they said they don't worry that they've hit it as big as they ever will.
"I don't think you can worry about it because we sure didn't do anything to make any of this happen," Taylor said. "Nobody has control over it. ...All we can do is exactly what we've always done, and if they (fans) decide to buy the next record, it's up to them.
I think if it all stopped right now, we'd be totally psyched to be able to say it was a great year and a half. It was great time. It's been awesome. Hopefully, we'll be able to keep doing it and keep putting out our music."
"We've had a great time so far," Isaac said.
Oh, finally, their female fans will want to know they still say they haven't found girlfriends.
"I'm in love with my dirt bike," Zac said.
