Jesus Christ said in John 4:23-24, "God is spirit: and they that worship him MUST worship in spirit and truth."
How do we find this truth? Ask a Baptist you get a Baptist answer. Ask a Methodist you get a Methodist answer. The same goes for all denominational churches, you get an answer based on what their denomination teaches.
The Churches of Christ teach and preach the Bible with the Bible only
The truth is the Bible tells everything you need to know for worship of God. 2Peter 1:3. The pattern is very clear. Who's in charge. Matt. 28:18; Eph.1:22. And who leads the local congregations. 1 Peter 5:1-3; Acts 20:17. Who qualifies to lead the local body, 1 Tim.3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9. Finally, a preacher or evangelist to preach the word of God. 2 Tim 4:2-5. There are no "ologies" or "isms", only Christians. Alot of people today make it harder to understand than it is. God tells us through Peter to study, why would God give us the Bible if we cant understand it? How can we fulfill the great commission if we dont understand the Bible? Ephesians chapter 4 tells us one Lord, one faith,one baptism and so on. Those three "ones" should tell people about what the Bible teaches. There is no denominations in the Bible so they must be man-made institutions and not the "one" church Jesus spoke of in Matt.16. You can be a "Christian only."
Hebrews 1:1-2 says very clearly that God USED TO use Prophets to speak to man, but now he uses His Son Jesus. How? Romans 16:26. The scriptures of the Prophets, or prophetic writings, the Bible. The Bible is 66 books written by 40 different authors, scattered across many countries during a period of 1600 years all joined into one book, without contradiction, that tells the story of the world from creation to heaven for the righteous and destruction for the wicked
2 Peter 3:16 says that some people will twist scripture to their own destruction. And Galatians 1:6-9 tell what happens to those who add or change Gods word.
A plain reading of the text tells us what to do to be saved. No magic, no sinners prayer and not faith only. The only time faith only is mentioned in the bible it is condemned. James 2:24. Alot of other passages can be used to say "belive only," but if you read them in context you see they are talking to Christians who have already obeyed the commands of God. Did you know the phrase "recieve Jesus into your heart" or "accept Jesus as your personal savior" are not found or even implied in scripture? What you must do to be saved is in the bible.
Test your church to see if it is teaching falsely, or doing something that is not authorized by God, such as calling it by some mans name, Jesus said " I will build MY church", the church Jesus died for would be named after Him, not after a man.Romans 16:14; 1 Cor.1:2
Also, Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14 that there are two paths you can follow, one leads to life one leads to death, most people go the wrong way.
Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to all those who OBEY Him. Heb.5:9
