History
History of Los
Tacos
It all began March 6,
1972 in a building 12'x16' at SW 29th and Clegern by our parents, Roy
(Tommy) and Bonnie Myers, under the name of Taco Inn. We never
imagined a family business could be so successful! In 1975 we moved
to our current location on SW 44th. We changed the name to Los Tacos
and voila! The rest is history. Our family line up includes three
generations of taco people: Mom and Dad (that's generation number
one) Jerri, Karen, Joanna, Rayme and Michelle (that's generation
number two) Ryan (the one with blue hair) and Kryston round out
generation number three. We have more little taco people from
generation number three waiting in the wings: Zakari is 10, River is
7, Kyra is 6, Rainey is 5, and Danay is 4. Little Jakob is 2 and is
starting up generation number four.
Although we have always
been primarily a family run business, we have been lucky to have some
really great employees. Currently, we have Heather, Sherry and Kerri.
We really couldn't get it done without them. They care as much about
the quality of product that is sent out to the public as we do. That
has been the most important consideration in our hiring policy and in
the way we run our business. Some other employees that have helped us
to be so successful have been: Sandi, Cyd, Betsy, Staci, Beth,
Anissa, Kenny Toops (the best drummer in OKC) Sarah, Sherri, Treva,
Tommy, Kevin, Belinda, Debbie, Brandon, Misty, Anna, Kathie, Anita,
Tammy, Carolyn, Margie, Sadonna, Robyn, Donna, Lisa, Connie,
Rachelle, Kim, Diane, Jackie, Joi, June, Laura K. and many more that
we just can't remember right now. It's been a busy 27 years.
And now we can finally
respond to all the rumors that have been circulating. First of all,
some people gossip just so they can be the first to tell a story,
even if the facts are not right. Many of the rumors have been way off
the mark. I guess you could say if it didn't come directly from us,
it probably wasn't right. Let us start by saying that no one has
bought the land out from under us; we have an airtight lease. We are
not being forced out of business, and most importantly, we are not
going under! We have been so lucky to have a business that never
really had a "bad" year. This year is certainly no exception, and is
proving to be one of the best ever.
We have been negotiating
with 7-11 for some time over the purchase of our lease. This was not
something we were pressured into, but something we felt the timing
was right for. We have outgrown our building, and the necessary
repairs would not be financially feasible. That is the business end
of things. On a personal note, we all felt that with the coming of
the new millennium, it was our chance to strike out and try new
things. This has been our life for many years, and we want to see
what else is out there. So, as of October 29, 1999, we will be
closing our windows. (ha ha) Thanks to all of our loyal customers
over the years, we are fortunate enough to be in a position to just
take a nice long break and evaluate our options. One thing we
certainly intend to do is come back at some point in time and once
again provide the yummy Los Tacos cuisine you have all grown to love.
Please stay tuned to our web site for updates on the when's and
where's of the continuing Los Tacos saga. We want to thank each and
every one of you for your loyal patronage of our business.
