Quality Assurance

and Central Technical Publications Library

The mission of the Quality Assurance Work Center is to ensure that only the highest level of quality maintenance is conducted within the work center.

They are a highly motivated team, working together constantly to ensure the division's goals are met efficiently and safely. Led by their hard charging team captain, AEC Espitia (see video clip below)and his charming, suave sidekick, AD1 Arias this team monitors programs such as Tool Control, Foreign Object D amage, and Safety.

QA conducts daily inspections of maintenance procedures. Normally there is at least one Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) from each work center (one electrician, one airframer, one mechanic, blah blah blah...). You get the picture.

The QA concept is fundamentally the prevention of the occurrence of defects. The concept embraces all events from the start of the maintenance operation to its completion and is the responsibility of all maintenance personnel. The achievement of QA depends on prevention, knowledge, and special skills.

The principle of prevention is that it is necessary to preclude maintenance failure. This principle extends to safety of personnel, maintenance of equipment, and virtually every aspect of the total maintenance effort.Knowledge is derived from factual information. Data collection and analysis are ways to acquire such knowledge. Special skills, not normally possessed by production personnel, are required of a staff of trained personnel for the analysis of data and supervision of QA.

The Central Technical Publications Library (CTPL) is run by AZ1 Sullivan and serves two important functions. It provides a central source of up-to-date aeronautical reference material and is a ready reference source for personnel training and individual improvement. To perform these functions, the CTPL must manage and control the distribution of technical publications for every aircraft and related equipment in the organization's physical custody consistent with the maintenance level of responsibility involved. Retention of master copies of publications in the CTPL is optional if the same publications are held by one or more dispersed libraries.

Management of the CTPL includes determining which technical publications are needed to support the organization, controlling receipt and distribution, and ensuring all publications are current and in good condition.
