REVIEW: TRICK DADDY: WWW.THUG.COM: This album is best described by one word. BUMPIN'!!! This album is awesome. I mean..... man when I saw his video I thought I was going to choke on the juice I was drinking. I had no idea he was that tight. This is his second album... at least he only has two that I know of. This guy is from Florida, I am not sure what part, Royal-T if you are reading this maybe you can help me out with this. This album sounds nothing like anything from Florida, other than maybe the Big Ballers album. I love CD's like this. I mean, anytime you put a CD in your car and it is just filled with rich bass and tight ass lyrics, you just can't complain. Every song on this album is special in its own way and I will close by saying this is a must buy. If this is the next wave of Florida rap, then damnit bring it on. RATING: 8.5 out of 10

REVIEW: LIL' JON and the Eastside Boys: Who U Wit? Da Album": I usually don't review booty music like this, but this is one album that caught my attention. These guys are from Atlanta, GA, and are definately well known throughout the South in clubs amongst DJ's and clubgoers alike. Now they have released their solo album and it is BUMPIN'. The beats on this CD are simple off da hook. The best songs are "Get Crunk" and "Bounce Dat Ass". I think if you want to test your sytem out, get this CD. This is THE CD to get for that kind of stuff. GO GET THIS FOR THE BEATS ONLY! RATING: 4 out of 10 for Content....8 out of 10 for the beats

REVIEW: BIG BALLERS OST: This CD is not bad. This is the soundtrack to the independent movie from those Ballers down in Florida. The movie I have not seen, but the soundtrack I have heard and it is bangin' It is even better than the "I Got The Hookup" OST. It definately sounds like Southern rap, using beats and drums similar to that of C-Loc and Master P albums. There is a lot of creativity in this album, especially for someone not nationally known and from someone whom I have never heard before. Most of the tracks are very solid, the lyrics really aren't talking about much we haven't heard before, nor are the beats new, but this is a CD you can just groove to. Just pop it in and push play. My favorite track is "Strap Up Your Boots". This is seriously tight. This sounds like a classic DJ KLC song. Overall this album is a good buy. Florida is really comin; correct with some solid music. I like it. RATING: 7 out of 10

REVIEW: OCF: "WILL I MAKE I IN THE GAME?": I wasnt pleased with this second album from the group from Ripley, MS. The only song that really stands out on this CD is the song that also appeared on the Young Southern Playaz Volume:2, which is OCF Terror. Othern that that, there really inst much to say about this CD. It is terrible. Buy at your own risk! RATING: 3 out of 10

REVIEW I: WILDLIFFE SOCIETY: "JACKTOWN (601) A very interesting effort by a group from Jackson, MS. These guys are students at Jackson State University, and I must say, it goes to show you that you can make a point without swearing all of the time on your tape. This is one CC I have been waiting for for the past year and a half, and I was getting rather impatient. Finally, a few weeks ago, they come out with their solo LP "Jacktown (601). They are basically trying to school anyone who is not from that area that you will be jacked in Jackson, just like you would anywhere else in the States. As you may know, Jackson, MS has one of the highest muder rates per capita, and Wildliffe Society definately lets you know whats up in J-Town. The album starts off with an interlude, containing a skit involving a group of 3, probably from New York or someplace similar visiting Mississippi. And boy do they have enough to say about the state. After calling Jackson "country" and other names, they come upon the members of Wildliffe Society, who think they are the police. Well one of the visitors asks the Willdliffe Society where they are, and you guessed it, they said Jack-town....slow ya roll! Anyway, after this lame skit comes the song that most people know Wildliffe Society for, "Jacktown". This is the most brilliant song on the album and loop that they use, which is a sermon from a local minister talking about Jackson, MS, is really tight, because it never lets you forget where these cats are from. Also, the drum beats, although they sound like they were made on your typical Casio Keyboard are not that bad....if you ask me. After "Jacktown", there is "Whats up Jack", which is a terrible song. I hate this song with a passion, so I usually skip it. Other notables are "Slo Fo tha Po",and "Homie Love", which is their second single. The album gets a bit redundant, as they tend to use the same damn drum beats throughout the album. Also, the rhymes are not that impressive, however, you have to give them their props, this is their first album and they are trying to make an impression on the Southern Hip-Hop world. I think this is a average album, and I suggest that you buy it only if you are from the Jackson area, and you have heard these guys before. Otherwise you might think it is wack. I give it one thumb up. RATING: 6 out of 10

REVIEW II: MISSISSIPPI MAFIA: "ANOTHER MISSISSIPPI MURDER" Who in the hell is Mississippi Mafia? Where the hell are they from? Mississippi of course, and Jackson to be exact. These brothas really try to show who rules the rap scene in the Magnolia State. Well they don't convince me with this first effort. This album is WEAK. I was really hoping for an awesome different sound coming from these cats but boy was I wrong. The album starts off slow, and pretty much stays slow throughout the whole album. If you listen to how these guys rap, you must think, "What in the hell are they thinking?!" I think these guys rap worse than Missy Elliot! I am very dissappointed with the production of the album as well. It sounds like some low-budget Fender bass guitar strumming layed over an electric funk piano. Believe me, IT AIN'T HAPPENIN! The only song that really caught my eye, was "Shot U Though the Cross", which is more along the line of what I look for in a good sounding song But one song isn't going to earn you a 9, better yet a 7 on my page. Sorry! RATING: 3 out of 10. UPDATE: After further review of this album, and hearing it im my car, which has hella speakers I might add... this si actually not that bad, with tracks number 3, "I got 99 Problems and a Bitch", "Shot U Through the Cross", and practically the last half of the album being really tight with solid beats. I didn't like this album at first because I was so disgusted with rappers rapping abotu the same bullshit, but you know the beats are what saves it. The beats kinda remind me of Geto Boys/Master P beats with hella bass and tons on highs. This actually may not be that bad after all, so I suggest that you give it a try. It is their next album that you should stay away from! That IS garbage. NEW RATING: 6 out of 10

REVIEW III: MISSISSIPPI MAFIA: "SOUTHERN FUNK III" Ah. They think they can redeem themselves. WRONG! This album is MUCH WORSE than the last one, and it sure doesn't appeal to me at all! It sounds totally differnt, they sound the same, and to be honest, I felt like throwing up after hearing this bullshit. I at least thought they would come up a tad. Sheeaaat! There are three good sounding songs on this album. The first being "Cold Ass Bitches". I don't particularly like the title, but I guess it is whatever rocks your boat. Anyway the song is very original, although the same blues/funk sound is still there. And oh god the lyrics and rapping are absolutley terrible. One of the dudes sounds like he is about to lose his voice any second...squealing and heaving with each verse. The other good songs are "Ghetto Blues" and "Stank so Good", although the latter really did not appeal to me as much as the others. But with an album this bad, you will search for anything to save its ass. Other than that you have another low-buget piece of crap of an album, that I suggest that you not buy. THIS IS A HUGE STEP BACKWARDS FROM THEIR FIRST CD, and it looks like they stepped backward into the MUD, because this is filthy! Of course this is my opinion, so I suggest that you listen to it yourself.....YOU MIGHT LIKE IT! RATING: 3 out of 10

REVIEW IV: BOO THA BOSS PLAYA: "SELF-TITLED"......Finally something quality coming out of Mississippi! Here we have a guy from Jackson, who started off small and is now making his impression in the Southern Rap world. With his self-titles debut, THE BOSS PLAYA tries to take us on a ride through the life of being a playa. Not exactly what a Boss Playa is I don't have the slightest idea, but I do know what this brotha can rap, and has developed one of the best albums to come out of the Magnolia state since S.S.P's "Tales From the Southside". The album has a "player-type" atmosphere, where the listener is taken on a journey through the life of a baller, or one who makes g's and sleeps with 500 women a year. Although the content of the album is not anything originial, the beats are what makes this album shine. Especially the song, "Birds Fly South", which in my opinion is the tightest song on the whole CD. There are other notable tracks, especially toward the end of the CD... I think the other good song is the one after "Birds", which has a more solemn tone. But anyway, this is a promising CD from a player who knows how to live in the Land of the Crooked Letter. It might be tough to find outside of Mississippi, Louisiana, and West Tennessee, but once you do find it, you won't be disappointed! RATING: 7 out of 10.

REVIEW V: S.S.P: "TALES FROM THE SOUTHSIDE" Now here is some serious southern gangsta rap. Although most of the album has a very "laid-back" tone, there are some suprisingly violent sides. These boys hail from Ripley, MS, or about 100 miles south of Memphis, TN. Not bad for a debut effort, these cats want you to know what it is like living in the Mississippi Delta. Murder is everywhere, of course, but Mississippi has been developing a reputation recently of having a rather high murder rate. And Ripley is no exception, according to the SouthSide Playas. This album is filled with a lot of funky tones and twists, like what you would hear in a R&B club, and yet on the other hand stabs you with classic bassy West Coast flavor. Some notable tracks are, "Smoke it Out", which you might guess has to do with smoking dank and getting high... nothing new, but it sounds awesome; "The Weekend" is a hella tight song that I think makes the album. You just have to hear it for yourself. Another is "Get Next to You", which is rather nice, especially after coming off of the previous song. There are some problems with the CD though. First of all they dont rap about anything I havent heard before. FOR CHRIST SAKE BE ORIGINAL! Another thing....some of these guys sound like they can't rap for shit. Now maybe I am not in any position to criticize....but I do know good lyrical flow when I hear it, and this ain't Mobb Deep or Nas for sure! But overall it isn't that bad. It is good to see more acts like this coming out of Mississippi, and I hope that their next album is a marked improvement...which it should! RATING 6.8 out of 10

REVIEW VI: O.C.F. "THE WAR ZONE" Another North Mississippi project. Although this one is more of a bounce/booty shaking album than anything else. You know...I hate Bass music, but I must say, I found this stuff to be very listenable. These guys are from Marks, MS.... I believe. They really have no message in their album, which I found disappointing. Also they didn't present themselves that well on the album cover....FLASHBACKS OF THE TAYLOR BOYZ ALBUM COVER, but these things are minor when it comes down to it. The notable tracks are.. "Dirty Hoe", which is a booty-shaking song for sure! The beat is pretty nice, but the chorous is stupid as hell. There is tremendous bass in this damn C song, and that is really the only reason to play it.... although not near the caliber bass that is in Al Kapone's songs. A really weak song is "Smiling Faces"......WEAK WEAK WEAK! How could you be so stupid as to put some bullshit like this on your album?! AWFUL! On a brighter note, we have "Big Pussy Woman". Where in the hell do they get the names for their songs? This is another bassy song, that was ripped straight from a George Clinton song. "Can we just all stop sampling?" Other than the thw good songs I mentioned... you might want to stay away from this one. They have a new album out now that I hear is a ton better, so you might want to peep that one. Otherwise....get Wildliffe Society. RATING 5.5 out of 10

REVIEW: S.S.P.: STILL SCANDALOUS: This was a dissappointment too. After the first album, I figured these Mississippi cats would be comin' correct. WRONG. The CD has the same vibe as the last one, just not as good, and not as creative. Even the cover art isn't as good. It is still OK. The best song on this CD is Chronic Daze" man I love that beat. The other songs are basically aight. You just have to listen to it yourself. It still has that smokin' weed, pimpin' hoes type style to it, so no new ground is being covered here. Order it, of you arent in the Memphis area, where it is easy to find, and see what you think. I think it is tolerable, just not great. RATING: 6.5 out of 10

REVIEW: GHETTO MAFIA: ON THA GRIND: Now this CD is a HUGE suprise. I love it. The brothas from Decatur, GA are really settin' it off this time. Just about every song on here is tight, with "In Decatur" being the tightest song. Another really interesting aspect of this album is that they used a lot of their old tactics from the album "Straight From Tha Dec", on this album. Like their style of rap, and the way that they used old R&B beats and songs to overlay their rhymes. An excellent CD that I highly recommend. One disturbing thought, did you see the video for "In Decatur"? They were dressed as blunts! Man that is lovin' weed TOO much! RATING: 8 out of 10

REVIEW: TAZZ & Q featuring DBL: SELF-TITLED: These guys are from Atlanta, GA. And I was sent their underground tape back in the summer, and I am now getting a chance to review it. And it is a solid EP. I hear that it is doing well in North Georgia, and I am hoping that I can get it to do well out here in Oklahoma. The EP contains 4 songs. "Playa What!", "Strikly Reprezzentin'", "Summer Time", and "Bem' Ho". "SummerTime" is my favorite. The production seems pretty solid, my only complaint being that it doesn't really sound like anything I haven't heard before. So it doesn't get points for originality, but it does for great effort. I give it a thumbs up. RATING: 7 out of 10
