LOUISIANA RAP ARTISTS PAGE II

REVIEW: GAMBINO FAMILY: GHETTO ORGANIZED: This is a terrible album from No Limit. It is repetitive crap like this that keeps me out of the record store, and it is crap like this that makes me appreciate some of the really BAD East Coast rap I have heard over the years. This album is garbage just like Magicand Prime Suspects. At least Ghetto Commission was better. The only song on this album that shows any promise would have to be "Trapped In A Storm". Other than that this is garbage. NEXT! RATING: 4 out of 10.

REVIEW: BIG ED: "THE ASSASSIN": I am sorry, but I did not like this bullshit. There are two tight cuts on this CD, but otherwise it is seriously lacking. Lacking in originality, because it just sounds like any of the other No Limit releases. Lacking in quality, because he is a rookie, and that is just something that he will have to obtain with time. This CD is terrible. Next to Mr. Serv-On's first CD, this has got to be the worst No Limit project. I argue with my friends about this album, they think that it is off da hook. I tell them it is off my ass. I do not like this. I think Master P is starting a trend of terrible CDs. This is the beginning of some mediocre product. I advise that you do not get this CD. If you have Mac and Gambino Family, there really is no sense in getting this. I know he is capable of better!RATING: 4 out of 10

STEADY MOBBIN': BLACK MAFIA: This is a nice second album by Steady Mobb'n. The track that grabbed my attention as soon as I hear the CD for the first time was track 4, or "When Them Killas Call". "Niggaz Like Me" is also is not bad, but it really doesn't sound like anything different from what we have heard from Master P related albums. And that is what is killing a lot of Master P's albums. Monotonous sound. Plead My Case is a nice track as well, and uses some beats that were used in recent albums by C-Murder and Mia X. "Turn Me Up" is a nice remake of "The Message" by GrandMaster Flash and the Furious Five. At least this version is not as obvious of a sample as Puffy's version. "Family Ties" is very tight. And I really like the beat on "No One" Overall not a bad effort, just nothing I haven't heard before. RATING: 7.1 out of 10.

REVIEW: GHETTO COMMISSION: WISE GUYS: This is another recent No Limit release that has suffered big time from mediocrity. Goddamnit. I am tired of these people calling themselves soldiers, when the only one of them who saw combat was Mystikal. Anyway, beyond that the best track on the album is "Hustla Baller". Man this is tight. All of the rest of the damn tracks sound the same. This album uses alot of beats that sound similar to those used on Kane and Abel's "Am I My Brother's Keeper". There really isn't much else to say about this. It all sounds the same. RATING: 5 out of 10.

REVIEW: FACES OF DEATH: COUNTDOWN 2 DEATH: This group is from New Orleans, and this album is quite old. I just now decided to buy it. Now if I can just find that Murder Inc. album. This CD is very odd in that it sounds nothing like most New Orleans rap I have heard, even the eccentric Souljas Of Sorrow doesnt come close to being this odd. But not as odd as the Half Dead Organization. Anyway, enough of that crap. This is a CD that I just now picked up, but had been eyeing for several years. How does it sound? Well mediocre.....again! This CD suffers from low budgetness. The beats sound like they were made on a Casio Keyboard! No seriously it sounds OK, just tinny. ,b>"Roc Spot" is a neat little song. It has one of those beats that you can just mob to. You know the deal. I like "Solderfied". It sounds like that SSP song on their first album called Sm

REVIEW:DJ JUBULEE: 20 YEARS IN THE JETS: OH MY GOD THIS IS BAD. I thought "Take It To The St. Thomas" was bad. MAN NO! This is AWFUL! I just can;t seem to accept this guy. I mean, some of his songs are OK, but there are NONE on this album that are good. STAY AWAY!RATING: 2 out of 10.

REVIEW: FULL BLOODED: MEMORIAL DAY: This album is a huge suprise. I really liked it. I kinda figured Master P had run out of things to keep my attention after 4 mediocre albums. Then is comes along. Very nice. The best tracks are "Foes Bleed Bullets", "Sleep No More", which is my favorite, and "Head Busting". The other tracks are not bad, bust not as good as the ones I mentioned. This is definately one of the better releases from No Limit in quite some time. It is safe to say that it is SAFE to buy this one. RATING: 7 out of 10

REVIEW: MIA X: MAMA DRAMA: This is not what I would call a good album. there are some good cuts on here, but I have heard it all before. Master P is still rapping on every damn song, not letting the featured artist have her/his time on the mic. It is almost like another No Limit compilation. This album comes nowhere near the quality of Mia's first album "Good Girl Gone Bad". "Unladylike" was alright, nothing special though. I really expected a hard hitting album, but this just isn't it. The only good cuts are "Mama Drama" and "I Think Somebody", and speaking of that song, the same concept for the beat was used in C-Murder's "Duck and Run", with the bullets ricocheting and all. Also other good tracks are "Ride or Run", which sounds like something borrowed from Kane and Abel's CD, but it is still OK. The best song is "Play Wit...", which I think is brilliant. Sounds really haunting though. Other than that the CD sucks ass. RATING: 5 out of 10

REVIEW: BLACK MOPHIA CLAN: TO BE ME: This is the Monroe, LA trio's third album, after the regionally successful "BMC 4 Life". This CD is very similar, not as good as the very first album "Bounty Huntaz", but still really nice. The title track, as well as the "Gangsta Vibe" Remix are the best songs. This is a must buy, however if you have the other BMC albums, them you really aren't missing much. RATING: 7 out of 10

REVIEW: BIG BOY RECORDS COMPILATION: WE G's: This was a HUGE dissapointment, after such good releases from Big Boy like Mystikal's "Mystikal", G-Slimm's "Fours, Dueces, and Treys", and Black Menace's "Drama Time". I was shocked when I hear the lack of good tracks. There is one very nice track by Lil Lipp called, "The 1 They Talkin' Bout". I like the beat, reminds me of the old Mystikal album. Other than that song, this album is a waste. I dont like any of the other tracks. Even the one by Mystikal called "I Ain't Playin' Witcha", which reminds me of the song he did on the Dangerous Ground OST called, "Mr. Shit-Talker", which was equally as bad. I have nothing else to say about this album. TERRIBLE. HOWEVER... YOU MIGHT LIKE IT, SO JUST LISTEN TO IT> RATING: 3 out of 10

REVIEW: SPORTY-T: STREET SOLDIER (RESPECT IT OR CHECK IT): I didn't like this either. His first album called, Chromed Out was A LOT BETTER. This is a horrible album. I see why Big Boy started to break up. They started releasing crap, however J-Dawg's "The Dawg House" was an exception. I had high hopes for this album, as I do for all that I buy, but when I hear stuff like this, MAN! The main think that kills this album is that the songs all sound the same. The are ALL bad. Weak beats killed this album, and I suggest that you stay away from this one. RATING: 2 out of 10

REVIEW: BOUNCE: 60 MINUTE LOUISIANA MIX: This is a nice compilation that I have been looking for, for quite some time. It consists of all of the hit Louisiana Bounce songs from back in the day to the present. It contains EVERYTHING from DJ Jimi to Dog House Posse to Juvenile. this is a definate buy, especially if you DJ. YOU MUST PICK THIS UP. The recording volume is rather low, but it is TIGHT AS HELL. GO GET IT. RATING: 8 out of 10. WARNING: THIS CD MIGHT BE EXPENISVE AS HELL SO BE PREPARED TO FORK OVER THE CASH.

REVIEW: JUVENILE: BEIN' MYSELF:

REVIEW: BIG TYMERZ: HOW YOU LUV THAT? VOL:2 : There really is no difference in this album and the first Volume. So, if you have Volume 1, stop here. Dont buy this second one. You will be wasting your money. The first one was alright, and this one is the same... maybe a couple of new cuts, but they aren't anything to scream about.

REVIEW: GHETTO TWIINZ: NO PAIN/NO GAIN: This is the Ghetto Twiinz third CD. It is better in some ways than their first joints, but not as good in other ways. MORE ON THIS LATER.

REVIEW: PRIME SUSPECTS: GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT: It seems that every week Master P is releasing something else. Almost too much stuff too soon. And the product that he is releasing it showing its hurriedness. Of these albums, the one that showed the least hurriedness was thisone. Big Ed was terrible. Mean Green wasnt that great either. This one is not bad, but definately not the best product released by No Limit. It basically sounds like all of the other No Limit releases. Nothing special at all. There is one good track though, and I believe it is track #8, called "My Old Lady". RATING: 5 out of 10

REVIEW: C-LOC: YA HEARD ME: This is C-loc's third solo album, not including the first Concentration Camp CD, which was a compilation. I can't say I enjoyed this one as much as I did his older albums. This is a nice CD, but it is the worst of the C-loc solo albums. As you may or may not know, this is C-Loc's third solo attempt. His first "Who's Gonna Ride" was good, but not too moving. "Whatever" was his second, and it was an excellent one. As said earlier, the third, really doesnt count, since it was actually the first Concentration Camp CD. Nevertheless, this is a good album, with the classic beats that C-loc is known for. This is defiantely a must buy, since it is C-loc's first nationwide release. RATING: 7 out of 10

REVIEW: MEAN GREEN: MAJOR PLAYERS COMPILATION: Not bad. Stay tuned.

REVIEW: SOULJAZ OF SORROW: BUCK 2 Da Bang: This is another very hard to find CD. These guys are from New Orleans on Mobo Records. Their style is kinda on the dark side, but not the kind of evil that is evident on early Three 6 Mafia tapes and albums, but more of an eerie sound. There are some really tight beats on this album, some of the tightest I have ever heard from a Mobo Records artist. Anyway, the guys sound like they are smokin' crack, seriously just get the CD and listen to the way they rap. It sounds like a yodelling type of rap, very odd. Like I said, the beats are what really makes this CD. Man they are tight. You WILL blow up your speakers with this album. The best tracks are "City Street", "Shell Shock", the interlude "Souljas of Sorrow", and "Picture of a Murder", which has a HELLA tight beat. GO GET THIS ONE. If you can find it! RATING: 7.8 out of 10.

REVIEW: LOWER LEVEL ORGANIZATION: STRAIGHT FROM THA WOODS: Straight outta New Orleans, this is a CD I just happened to come across. For one, I noticed that after buying Mobo Records releases such as Dog House Posse, and Ricky B, the number on the CDs indicated that there are many more Mobo releases other than those. So I went on a little hunt, and found others like Mobo Click, Ruthless Juveniles, and Lil Goldie. Then I found this one. What do I think of it? Not bad, but not as good as the other Mobo releases. It has a bounce type sound, but at the same time shows influences from Ruthless Juveniles, who flex strong gangsta rap muscle. This is a nice addition to your collection of CD's, but there are better CD's out there. RATING 6.7 out of 10

REVIEW: C-LOC: CONCENTRATION CAMP I: THE COMPILATION: This is what I once thought was C-Loc's third CD release. But actually, this is his first compilation. This is the CD that contains the ORIGINAL version of "How Ya Do Dat?", called "Act A Fool" on this CD as well as the Concentation Camp II. Is it good? Well, kinda. There are a couple of good tracks including the one I just mentioned. Most of the tracks contain some tight ass beats, just nothing special on the lyrics department. Remeber, this is the CD that came out WAY BEFORE the Concentration Camp or C-Loc were known outside of Louisiana. The CD features artists such as C-Loc, Young Bleed, Lay Low, Boo Tha Boss Playa, and many more. It is considered a Louisiana classic, and maybe that is reason enough to buy it. I like it because of "Act A Fool" RATING: 7 out of 10

REVIEW: SKULL DUGGERY: THESE WICKED STREETS: This is a welcome comeback from his first album Hoodlum 4 Life which was HORRIBLE! An instant club hit is "Where You From?", TIGHT AS HELL. I live this song. Other than that, the rest of the songs are less moving, especially, "If It Don't Make $$$" which sucks major ass. Overall, much better than that first piece of crap of a CD. RATING: 7 out of 10

REVIEW: PRIME TIME: DUCK TAPEN':This is a CD by a member of Partners N Crime of New Orleans. Prime Time actually kinda jumped back and forth over the years from Cash Money to Big Boy record companies doing stuff for both UNLV and Mystikal, despite all of the beef at that time between BB and Cash Money. Anyway, he makes another appearance as a solo artist after the very mediocre Partners N Crime album, "Whatcha Wanna Do?". This CD is much better than that one. It kinda reminds me of the old PNC days back in the early 90's, because it does have that sound. "Do You Really Wanna?" is the song to listen to. TIGHT I TELL YOU! Other goodies are Uptown/Downtown featuring the Drama Squad and Che, who was also a former BB Records artist. Everybody is on this CD! I'm talkin' L.O.G., Tre-8, By-U-Boy, Ms.Tee, Threat, and many more. Definately worth buying. RATING: 8 out of 10

REVIEW: CHEEKY BLAKK: LET ME GET THAT OUTCHA: This is VERY old. I just threw it on here since the other Cheeky albums are on here. This is an album I picked up in Louisiana about 4 years ago. I had heard alot about her, so I wanted to buy it and see how her style of bounce stacked up with the rest of the others from the N.O.. Well, I shouldn't have expected much more than that, because this CD is just average. I mean, it has some classic club songs like, "Bitch Get Off Me" and "Twerk Somthin'", but the CD lacks in that it really doesnt move me as somthing I haven't heard before. I know I have said this in reviews a million times, but this is jujst somthing that kills bounce music. There is no variety and no talent in the raps. Don't get me wrong I like Bounce. Just not this CD. RATING: 5 out of 10

REVIEW: CHEEKY BLAKK: FUCK BEIN' FAITHFUL: This is Cheeky Blakk's 2nd CD release.... I think. Let's see. She had "Let Me Get That OUtcha" released in 1995, this one, and a recent one "Whores Pimp Niggaz 2" which I will review in the coming days. This CD continues where she left off from the last one, the same old bounce, the same old, "Bitch get Off Me" stuff. If you like this kinda stuff, then this is for you, but as far as talent, I can do what she is doing! Man there is no talent here. She uses the same Show Boys "Drag Rap" beat that all of the N.O. Bounce rappers use in almost all of her songs. Not much variety. Good club music though. RATING: 3 out of 10 for content.......6 out of 10 for the beats

REVIEW: CHEEKY BLAKK: WHORES PIMP NIGGAZ 2: This is the latest CD by the Bounce queen of the South. DAMN. She has gotten fat! Anyway, this is the best of the three CD's she has released. I think it is because she is no longer with Tombstone Records. This CD is bumpin. I still hate the way she raps. That raspy voice! UGH! Anyway the beats on this album are tight as hell. Go get it. RATING: 7 out of 10
