A Tulsa Kind Of Summer

While all of that had been happening, Taylor and Kai had been walking around a rural neighborhood by the Hanson's house, conversation had been light, mostly because neither of them knew what to say, or wanted to say goodbye.
Kai was just kind of staring off into the fields thinking back on all that had happened, it felt like a dream and she didn't want to wake up.
Not noticing that Taylor was trying to get her attention, she let out a small gasp when he grabbed her hand and pulled her down another road.
Laughing Taylor apologized, "Sorry about that, I was going to tell you to turn, but you seem lost in thought. Am I that boring?"
"No Tay, you aren't boring me. I guess…I just can't think of anything to say."
Stopping, Taylor turned to her with a serious expression on his face, but a gentle look in his eyes.
"You think you're at a loss for words? I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be right now, I wish you never had to leave, but you do. How do you tell someone that you think you love them?"
Surprised by the sudden outburst on Taylor's part, it took Kai a moment to realize everything that he had just said.
"Don't say that…" Kai said as she backed away from Taylor.
As he reached out and grabbed her hand Taylor noticed that there were tears falling down Kai's cheek.
"Kai," Taylor said quietly as he pulled her close, "what's wrong? Why don't you want me to say that?"
"Don't say love." Kai answered as she laid her head against his shoulder. "Look, I had a really great time here, you were as sweet as I had ever imagined, but I can't go on kidding myself. I have to leave, we're probably never going to see each other again."
Taylor pulled her a little bit away from himself, just enough to make her look at him.
"Kai, I had a great time too, a really great time, and I can't ignore how I feel towards you. But if you want, I won't bring it up again. We can still be friends though, you know, we can write, I can call, things like that."
Smiling, Kai laughed a little as Taylor brushed her tears away.
"Ok, I'd really like that Tay."
A look of relief came over Taylor's face as he pulled her close again and wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug.
Putting her arms around his waist, Kai sighed as she looked up at Taylor.
The two of them just stood there for a minute before Taylor broke the hug and reached into his pocket.
"I have something I really want to give you, a token of friendship I guess." He said as he pulled something out of his pocket.
Kai just nodded as she watched him hold out a necklace.
It was a silver circle with a heart cut out of the center, and it was suspended on a silver chain.
"And look," Taylor continued as he reached up and flipped one of his chokers around, "I have the other side."
The one that he was wearing was a solid silver circle with a raised heart on one side, but the way he had been wearing it, it looked like just a smooth silver circle.
Taylor walked around Kai and put the necklace gently around her neck and shut the clasp.
Before Kai even had time to react, Taylor had already walked back in front of her and taken hold of her hand.
"A promise, that I won't forget everything that happened." He said quietly as he intertwined his fingers with hers.
"Then I won't forget it either." Kai said as a smile finally appeared.
Taylor took his other hand and gently took her face in it as he tilted her chin up so he could look her in her eyes.
Just as Kai had begun to get lost in his eyes, Taylor leaned down and kissed her soflty on the lips.
"I had to seal it with a kiss. To make sure we won't forget." He said pulling away from her. "I know, I promised I wouldn't bring it up again, but I couldn't help it. I've wanted to do that for a couple days now, and this was my last chance to do it."
Smiling almost mischievously, Kai asked Taylor of he could guess what she had wanted to do ever since they had met.
When he answered that he had no idea, she pulled him back over and gave him a kiss in return to what he had given her a moment ago.
"A thank you, for everything you've done for me."
Taylor just grinned sheepishly as he once again took hold of her hand and began to lead her back towards the house.
Neither of them said anything, but this time it was because nothing needed to be said. They had both let their feeling be known to each other, and now only time would tell where it took them.

A while later, the five teens were gathered outside next to Kai's Jimmy.
Walker, Diane, and kids had already said their good-byes, and now they were waiting it the door until Kai and Hunni left.
"Well, this is goodbye." Isaac said as he extended his hand to Kai, "I hope you guys can visit again soon."
Taking his hand and giving him a half hug, Kai said that they'd be back as soon as they could manage to come.
As Hunni shook Isaac's hand, she thanked him for taking them all the places that he had.
Shrugging, he said it was no big deal, he was used to playing taxi, and besides, he had a lot of fun.
After he had said bye to both of them, Isaac turned and left to join his the rest of his family on the walkway so Taylor and Zac could said bye as well.
Saying goodbye to Zac, Kai gave him a hug as she struggled to fight the tears that she knew were coming.
Hunni and Taylor shared good-byes as the two girls prepared to leave for home.
As Taylor walked Kai around to the drivers side, he gave her a quick hug as he whispered to her that he'd talk to her soon.
Returning the hug, she replied that she'd be waiting to hear from him.
Stepping into the car, Kai gave Taylor's hand a light squeeze as she found her goodbye ending the same way her hello had begun, with the two of them giving each other a gentle look that said more than any words could ever hold.
Reluctantly letting go of her hand, Taylor stepped away from the car without breaking their gaze.
On the other side of the Jimmy, Hunni and Zac were also reluctantly saying their farewells.
"It was great Zac, we'll be back soon." Hunni said as she could hardly bring herself to look at him.
"Yeah, either that or we'll have to come up there and kidnap the both of you." Zac said smiling as Hunni laughed.
"Yeah, you do that." Hunni replied as she climbed up and into the car.
"Ok…we'll make plans. But for real, I'll e-mail you sometime soon."
Shutting the door, Hunni turned to Kai and watched as she started to ignition.
Backing away from, Zac joined Taylor in waving goodbye as they headed towards the house.
Pulling out of the driveway, Kai and Hunni started the long trip home that gave both of them plenty of time to let everything that had happened finally set in.
