Liam Gallagher

When Oasis toured Japan for the first time, Quip caught up with Liam Gallagher and grilled him for hours over a hot stove. This is what they came up with:

Quip: Why did you drop Tony from the band?

Liam: 'Cos Tony was no good, no good. Tony was no good. He couldn't drum like proper beats any more. We have to move on and like....it was just doing my head in, he weren't like part of the band. So, like, we had to get a new drummer and Alan White was the one.

Quip: What's Noel's attraction in Oasis?

Liam: He's the best song writer since Lennon-McCartney and that's it. Sometimes he's a total dick-head, and he does my head in. Sometimes I do his head in and some days I love him, and somedays I fucking hate him. But that's what brothers are about. Love and Hate. His main attraction is his songs. And he's my brother. My blood.

Quip: A lot of bands are influenced by Oasis, what do you feel about that?

Liam: I think it's good. That's why we started the band: To bring rock'n roll music back in, good music; and people start bands 'cos they see us, that's top. It's like, mission completed.

Quip: Tell us a little about the lyrics of your songs.

Liam: I don't know, I don't know. Every song's different, you know what I mean? "Slide away" is about a girl. You know what i mean? "Columbia" is about being like...being no one and being someone. They are all different, you know what I mean? "Rock'n Roll Star" is about being a rock'n roll star. And when you get there, it's not so good, because you've got loads of hassle. I could go on forever about it, so I won't. And like "Shaker maker" is about wanting to be someone else, like John Lennon!!!

Quip: What is music to you?

Liam: It's a way out, a good feeling, it makes you happy, peace of mind, gives a sense, a direction, gets you into the next world.

Quip: What about your singing?

Liam: Yeah. I can't sing anyway. I actually like to shout, to be loud. I can't be quiet. McCartney was very quiet, wasn't he? I can't do that. It's like... when the quitars come in it's gotta go like... You know what I mean?

Quip: You don't like to play big halls. Why?

Liam: It's not good, not good. We can play big gigs...We get offered big gigs, where like, the crowds are bigger. They are all sitting down and...it's no good. Don't want people sitting down going like that *claps*.

Quip: What about the other members of Oasis?

Liam:The other members are idiots! Yeah? Geezer! Nah, they are all cool! Top lads! We are all top lads!

Quip: Describe yourself.

Liam: Ah...I dunno. A bit of a cunt? A bad lad. And a good lad - a heart of gold. I've got respect for people, I don't know...Geezer!

Quip: How many albums do you aim to do? Do you have any plans to split up?

Liam: It depends. We've signed six, but if life and fame takes a toll, you know what I mean, and it's not making us happy anymore, then we'll just sack it for a bit but we'd never split up. Oasis will never split up. We'll just call it a day, you know what I mean, go like: "Right, we'll make another album and have a year off." And if we wanna get back to it, we'll get back to it but never split up. We split up every day and get back together. I wouldn't mind making about four (albums) though. That would be nice. Two more.

Quip: Bonehead sings in your album?

Liam: We told him to sing. We said you're singing it. 'Cos it's a bit of a noddy song! We thought it would suit Bonehead to have a go.

Quip: He's got the qualities of a lead singer?

Liam: Shit no. But he's alright. It's just a funny song and he's a funny head!

Quip: What are your favourite bands?

Liam: Cast, Verve. Verve are cool mates. Northern Uproar, they are quite good. They are from Manchester. That's it.

Quip: How about your favourite Beatles songs?

Liam: I can't give my favourite songs, they are all the best. You know what I mean? I like..Jonh Lennon's "Imagine". I like John Lennon - all that tackle. the Beatles...cool. Every song is great. They are all Top.

Quip: How about the 'Roses, Beatles, Bruce Lee?

Liam: Self-belief; confidence in youself; Great music! Cool. Bruce Lee: Cool hair cut Stone Roses: Cool; Beatles: Cool, great music. Stone Roses: Good attitude. Bruce Lee: Hard as Fuck!

Quip: Are there going to be any changes in the band?

Liam: The band comes first. We've got to like go home and wipe its bum and all that, put nappies on it, hold it, feed it.

Quip: Have you got a message for the readers?

Liam: I've got no message. You know what I mean. I love music, it's all brothers and sisters and that's it. I love Japan - know what I mean; dead happy people! That's cool.
