Know Your Lemon
I borrowed this exercise from somewhere on the Net
although I cannot remember from where. Students
adore this exercise. It teaches the importance of
observing and recording details.
Divide the students into small groups. Give each
group a lemon and instruct each group to get to know their
lemon personally: this instruction always produces a
few laughs. They brainstorm and then write a
detailed description of their lemon. The teacher
then collects each lemon, writing in marker a number
on the lemon keyed to the group the lemon belongs to.
No one but the teacher should know which number and
lemon belongs to which group. The teacher then collects the
groups' descriptions. Shuffle and redistribute the
descriptions. No group should get their own
description. Place the lemons in a line-up. Each
group reads the description and tries to pick the
correct lemon out of the line-up.
