Get On The Band Wagon

Many miracles and signs were performed by God, through Moses, to convince Pharaoh that giving the Hebrew people their freedom was a good idea. We know the people eventually received their freedom and left the land of Egypt to go to the land God had promised them.

This was a very frightening time for Hebrews and Egyptians. Many Egyptians joined God's people as they fled the land. They wanted to be on the winning side. They wanted to get away from what they considered a sinking ship. After all, look at everything that had happened: huge hail stones of fire and brimstone fell from the sky, all first born children died and darkness covered the land for several days.

These people were moved by their emotions and feelings. They really didn't understand why everything was happening but they were sure of one thing. They were determined to be on the winning side, no matter which it was.

History has shown that great revivals always follow tragedy. For some reason, people at peace never worry about the future but you just let persecution come and they are either ready to get out of Dodge City or stand their ground and fight. God does know our shortcomings and never hesitates to use them to get our attention. No, he doesn't cause tragedy but he takes the messes we make and  works all things out for our good because we are called according to his purpose.

We are all called by God to be saved but it takes more than just getting on the “band wagon”. The Egyptians learned quickly about the Ten Commandments, which were God’s conduct rules for the Old Testament. In order to be accepted by God, every law had to be obeyed.

Recent events in our United States world have people in a panic. They are afraid the world is coming to an end and are frantic for a “bandwagon” to ride out on. Well, God still has the answer but it is no longer the Ten Commandments. These commandments were given in order for man to see how utterly hopeless his own efforts were to save himself.

Sacrifices were needed to cleanse people in the Old Testament because they could not keep the commandments of God. They repeatedly failed to do the Ten Commandments, which is why it upsets me to hear preacher’s say we need to get back to the Ten Commandments. Who would want to go back to that time? We always failed to obey God and had to kill animals to cover our sins.

New Testament times are controlled by a new covenant with God. He provided a new way for us to be cleansed from our disobedient and sinful ways. It is the blood-red “band wagon” of Jesus Christ. Yes, he had to die, once, and that was enough for God. Now, all who believe and accept his sacrifice are cleansed and made right before God, from the inside out.

Sometimes people claim to belong to Christ when they are really just wanting insurance for the future. They don’t really believe but are looking for a way out of tragedy and they "hope" this will work. There is great peace in Christ to all who come to him in truth. God will not cast off anyone who wants to tag along with the Christians but eventually you will find yourself either believing or leaving.

I am asking you to get on Jesus’ Band Wagon, whether you believe or not. I have that much confidence in God. He will provide all that is needed to convince you of the truth. Just give him a chance and you will see how very much he loves you.
