we are obvious...

who is obvious?

You better believe these boys can play that mid-fi basement dub like an indie rocker buys vinyl and shops at value village! With spacey jives and slow-groovin washes of chemically induced 4-track fun the so-called "brothers" have definently worked things out. With their first release on bedroom records as a small token gesture to the label that helped them get on their feet after surviving in the harsh canadian underground, "we are obvious..." is making new strides and paving the way for many a basement dub band to come.

obvious origins

The humble beginnings of this band date back to the very beggining of the Bedroom records empire itself. Two boys, Jon and Niall growing up on the streets with a single tape-deck, with internal mike in one hand and an acoustic guitar that neither could play that well in the other. Their first project was entitled Gus and recorded on a friends, sisters kariokee machine and it pretty much sucked huge! Another major problem was finding out that the name of your band and the name of the label you chose to use to release your tape were already being used by some other rock stars. But anyway. The second release under the name X-perimental Gus was also crap because it was recorded mostly in one take over a span of about a half hour with the help of now Zipper drummer Ryan Chalupa. Ryan is a damn fine drummer however the recording facilities and playing abilities of the rest of the band will make it seem like Ryan can't play crap! Please keep in mind that it was just a one time thing and does not reflect his playing abilities in any other situation. The rest of the tape consisted of Ryans now exgirlfriend calling in the middle of the tape and we then got her to sing twinkle twinkle little star on the phone into a mike without her knowing we were actually recording.

Many years, tapes and band names later, including bedroom jamboree andbedspread sounds the boys have perfected their sound from just crap-on-a-stick to home-studio quality space rock/dub/trip hop/whatever the hell you think it is. We like to describe it as damn fine listening! Stay tuned for more info.
