I'm so beautiful, its scary!

Hotohori is the Narcistic Emperor of Konan. Unlike many of the other Seishi, hotohori is limited by his royal position and is unable to protect Miaka, to the extent that he wishes. An expert swordsman without peer his conviction and determination rival even Tamahome's on occasion. He loves and cares about Miaka from the moment they meet and would also happily die in order to protect her from her enemies.

Born into the role, he obeyed his mothers wishes and was crowned Emperor at the age of 14. He has had few friend, since his duties and position alienates him from other men. A wise and sensitive ruler, he is hgenuinely interested in the needs of the lower classes of people. He is smart and not easily decieved. That combined with his kind and passionate nature causes him to rule wisely.

From an early age he romanticised about Suzaku no Miko, and so he quickly fell in love with her when she finally appeared. Even from the early episodes he declares his love for her and asks her to marry him on more than one occasion. Her love for Tamahome, however, complicates the situation, however, and he is forced throughout the series to endure his feelings for her in silence.
