Chapter Five

As I waited by the gate for Trey, the football players from both schools surrounded me. The first one to actually say something was the famous number thirty two for the other team.
"Hi. I'm Nathan Cook. I go to Roosevelt. And I assume from your cute little outfit that you go to South."
"Yeah. You're very observant."
"Thanks. I also observed you dancing and doing the splits. I also observed that when you did that teddy bear jump, your skirt went up."
"You should be an observational scientist."
"So can I study you?"
"If you want, but all you'll be able to do is study 'cause I already have a boyfriend. As a matter of fact, he's right there."
"Probably some looser."
"If I dated you, would you be a looser?" I turned on my heel and pushed my way through the crowd to get to Trey. On the way out, someone pinched me. I turned and glaired at the group for a couple of seconds, then stomped off towards Trey's car. "I'm glad I'm not going to that school."
"What happened?" Trey gave me a worried look.
"They were hittin' on me like I was a tennis ball." I looked angrilly back over at the group, which was now mixed with the girls on our danceline, but the boys gave up and left. If only the girls knew how much of a jerk those boys were. Trey pulled away.
"So where do you want to go?" He asked, looking over at me.
"How 'bout drop me off at my house, and you can wait for me while I change out of this thing, then go somewhere?" I suggested.
"You don't want to wear that in a store or something?"
"No! How 'bout if you wait for me, I'll get into something smaller than this." I smiled at him.
"You actually have something smaller than that?! Wait. Are you supposed to be able to wear it in public?" He raised an eyebrow, a smile slowly spreading on his face.
"Trey!" I playfully smacked him. "Yes, you can wear it in public."
"Okay. Sounds like a plan. Will anybody be home?"
"No."
"Will we have the house to ourselves?"
"Yes."
"Alright." Since I live really close to the school, it didn't take too long to get there. I got my stuff out of his trunk and lugged it into the house, dropping it in the entryway.
"Have a seat. You can help yourself to the pop and food in the fridge. I'll be right back." I dashed upstairs to kmy bedroom, rummaged through my closet and found a pair of blue jean shorts, a wide black belt and a cloth bikini top. I ran to the bathroom, washed off my make up, took out my pony tail, put on my shoes and went downstairs to find Trey. I looked in the dining room, kitchen and den. I finally found him in the living room. "Ready?" I asked him, standing in the doorway.
"Ah...ah, yeah. Yeah. I'm ready." He jumped up and came over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"You wern't lying when you said you had something smaller were you."
"I told you I did silly."
"Does that untie?" He motioned towards the knot tied in the cloth.
"Yes." He reached a hand up and started to tug on the knot.
"No." I backed away a couple steps.
"Why not?"
"We haven't even known eachother for even three months yet. Before then, you didn't even know I was alive." I crossed my arms over my chest. Trey had a girlfriend before me. He was so wrapped up in her, he didn't even notice any other girl until she died in a car accident. She had been drinking alcohol before she started to drive. She was coming home from a party where she was the only girl. She was driving a boy home, and he distracted her, so she hit a tree head on. She died instantly. The other was seriously injured. Then some of Trey's friends introuduced me to him. "And the first time we met, you didn't even like me because I wasn't close enough to Angela. You totally ignored me." I finished quietly.
"Madeline, come in. You knew I finally came around to liking you. I love you now." he gently pulled me back into his arms. "Come on. You know I love you Maddy." The phone rang.Nobody moved. It rung again.
"Aren't you gonna answer it?" Trey mumbled into my hair.
"No. That's why they invented answering machiens." Trey laughed and kissed the top of my head.
"Lets go. Do you have any ideas of where we should go?" He asked me.
"Ice cream?" I looked up into his eyes.
"Sounds good right about now." We left the house, locked it, then went to find the nearest ice cream shop.
