Chapter Five~ Final Chapter!
Taylor opened the picnic basket, and pulled out turkey sandwiches from Sub Way, and a big bunch of grapes.
"The rest is for later." With everything in place, and the juice in the glasses, Taylor made a toast. "I am grateful for every minute I am able to spend with you, and thankful I know you." Maiandra's eyes brimmed with tears. Blinking them back, she added, "I am thankful I know you and am proud of you for all of your hard work. You deserve it and are great at what you do." The tears spilled over, and she wiped them away quickly. To think she was going to break up with him. And now this?
"Well, let's eat first, and then we'll talk about serious things." Taylor smiled, trying to lighten the mood. "Guess what Zac did today." Maiandra smiled in return.
"Well, I know he's been trying to learn how to skateboard...does it involve that?"
"Technically, and a ramp and our pool." They both laughed. "He built a ramp next to our pool and decided to strap different objects to the board and push them down the ramp and into our pool. It basically looked like a dump. Everything was in there. Pots and pans to stuffed animals and random toys to balls of socks and bags of coins. Anythig that could stay on for five seconds. My mom was so angry. He spent the next two hours cleaning all the stuff out and putting it away after it was dry." Maiandra shook her head and laughed.
"He is always doing the craziest things. How's everyone else doing? I bet Ike's getting excited about graduating."
"He is, and is planning a monster party. It should be very interesting." They talked for another half an hour, and then decided it was time for the second course. Taylor brought out chocolate covered strawberries and whipped cream.
Finishing up, they started to put the plates, glasses and accessories away. When that task was finished, they layed next to each other on the blanket, looking at the fluffy clouds. They layed in silence for a moment, and then began to talk at the same time.
"You go first." Maiandra insisted.
"I was going to say I don't know where to start." He propped himself up on his elbow, looking down on her. "I have so many things I want to say and do with you, but I don't want to hurt you."
"You don't have to worry about me Tay, just tell me."
"I didn't know how to do this, so I thought I'd make it a little special. But I get the feeling that if things are going to go the way they should tonight, I don't know if I'm going to see you before you get serious with Travis."
"He's just a friend, Tay, nothing has happened between us." She defended, which was the truth, so far.
"I know, but I hear what's going around and-"
"Hey. I already talked to Arista about that, and hopefully now she knows better than to say things that aren't true."
"Even if they're not, I'm not going to be here. I have to go. We've worked too hard for this, to get here."
"I know Tay, and I wouldn't want you to stay because of me. I honestly was thinking of breaking it off anyway." Taylor looked up at the clouds. "Not because of what Arista's been saying, or because of Travis, or any of the school drama. Because I know you have big, important things to do, and I don't want to stand in your way, and always be harrassing you about spending time with me. I want to be able to say, hey, I dated Taylor Hanson once, way back in the day. And if you ever come around again, expect to make time for me." She smiled at him. She couldn't stand to tell him the real reason was Travis.
"Okay. I swear I'll make time for you every time I come back." He smiled at her again, and she knew everything would be all right. "Since that is out of the way, we're still friends, right?"
"Friends till the end." They hugged eachother, then picked up the box and blanket. They walked back to the car, and dumped the stuff into the trunk.
"Dang. I didn't want to have to do this today."
"Why?" Maiandra reached to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear.
"Because I still have unfinished business." He smiled a sly smile, and went in for a kiss.
"I think we can finish that in time." She said with a smile, and wound her arms around his neck.
