Chapter Three
"Hey Arista, can I talk to you for a minute?" Maiandra smiled innocently.
"Sure Maiandra, what's up?" Arista stopped in front of Maiandra, and leaned against a row of red lockers, and adjusted the strap of her backpack on her right shoulder.
"Oh, nothing much. I just wanted to ask you why you would go around saying that I'm cheating on Taylor. You know that's not true." Arista tilted her head in a question.
"It's not? Sure could have fooled me. The way you've been cozying up to Travis lately..." She examined her fingernails, then looked into Maiandra's green eyes.
"You know nothing about Travis. Or about me, so I'd suggest you take that rumor about me, Travis, and Taylor back, and keep your big mouth shut before I start a rumor about your private business."
"You don't know anything." Arista said quietly threatening.
"You'd be suprised." Maiandra narrowed her eyes. Arista glared back, and opened her mouth to say something just as the bell wrang. The teacher came to the door.
"Seats please, ladies." They spared one last glare at each other before finding their seats.
Maiandra couldn't get much thinking done, as the class was reading from their history book aloud, and had to keep up, so when you were called on to read suddenly, you didn't look stupid asking where everyone was. Fortunately, this was the last class of the day, and then she was free. To Maiandra's disappointment, she was never called on to read, so she had spent all that time without the progress of a note. She was always better with notes.
The final bell rang, and Maiandra grabbed her books and sprinted out of the room, making sure Arista didn't get out before she did. She quickly walked to the front doors of the school, not bothering to stop at her locker. She didn't want to risk Arista getting to Taylor first and saying something, anything. Not even hi.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, she finally saw Taylor coming towards her. She ran towards him with a smile on her face. She wrapped her arms around him when she got to him. She kissed him hard on his lips, watching Arista over Taylor's shoulder. Arista narrowd her eyes, and spun on her heel in disgust. Maiandra pulled back, and smiled at Taylor.
"Hey. I missed you." She took his hand and led him out through the doors.
"Missed you too." He was grinning, eyes a little distant and dreamy. "So I was thinking, maybe we could stop at my house before we go out. Just for a second."
"Okay, that's fine." They crossed the street over to the student parking lot, and made their way to Maiandra's little sky blue convertable Beetle. Maiandra climbed into the drivers seat and put her books on the back seat. "Ready?"
"Just one thing." Taylor cought Maiandra's face in his hands, and brought his lips to hers. After a minute, it was Taylor's turn to pull away. He could see the confusion in Maiandra's eyes. "I've been wanting to do that for a while." He smiled at her. "Lets go." Maiandra, still a little dazed, nodded and started the ignition.
