Chapter Two
Another note bounced off my desk and onto the floor. I bent over and picked it up, then read it.
April-
I'm glad you can come. I've been too shy to say
anything. Everytime I had the courage to talk to
you, I chickened out. My friends got sick of me
talking about you, so they finally told me to do
this. I'll talk to you after class.
Lance.
Holy cow! I quickly finished my note to Brittney and folded it carefully and stuck it in my pocket. I watched the rest of the movie in a daze. The bell rang to leave fourth hour. I got up and wet to the door, waiting for Lance.
"Hey April."
"Hi Lance. Four years togeather, and we finally talk."
"Yeah." We left the class.
"Since we have the next class togeather, do you mind if I walk with you?" Lance asked carefully.
"Sure. So. Where do you usually eat lunch?"
"We usually go off campus. You?"
"We eat here. It's too cold to go out more than we have to. You know?"
"Well, we have a car, so it's not so bad, but it's still cold until the car warms up. You should come with us tomorrow. We can go anywhere you want."
"I can't leave Brittney. We've been best friends since pre-school."
"I suppose you could bring her if you want." I could hear a hint of dissappointment in his voice.
"Well, try this. Brittney's not coming to school Thursday, so, not tomorrow, but the next day it can be just us. Kay?"
"Great." We arrived at our class. Fortunately, I get to sit next to one of my friends Marie Larson.
"Aaaaprillll, what was that? You never talk to Lance. Now you guys come walking into class talking like you're all of a sudden best friends. Now tell me what's up."
"Nothing's up. He just asked me to the Spring Dance, that's all."
"That's all!" Marie yelled. "That's all my...nose!"
"Sit down Marie, or I won't tell you anything else." She sat down with a thump.
"Spill the beans girl."
