Chapter Nine

I was in the middle of three seats. Tay climbed up next to me. He took my hand in his and held it, watching me, with this appologetic look in his eyes. I closed my eyes and tried to block out the throbbing pain. It didn't work. My breath came in short, struggling breaths. it was torture to breath, so I did the thing I could do to help ease that pain- I held my breath. I held it until I had to breath again. I sucked in another and held it.
"Dad! Hurry! She just passed out! She's not breathing!" The van sped up. "Are you sure? Is she just holding her breath?" He looked back in the rear view mirror as Tay stuck his hand in front of my face.
"She's deffinitely not breathing. If she was holding it, it's been too long." He cried. Ike and Zac leaned up from the back seat. "She's turning colors dad!" Tay yelled.
"Calm down Tay. You won't help if you're panicing too." Ike told him. "Do C.P.R. Tay!" Zac suggested. Everybody looked at Walker. He nodded. "What if her ribs are broken?!" Tay screeched.
"She won't feel it. Just do it Tay. Lay her down across the seat. We're allmost there. I see it." Tay spun my limp body around. he opened his mouth and plugged my nose, and placed his mouth on mine. He lifted his head and pressed down on my ribs. CRACK!!!
"Oh my God- I think if her ribs wern't broken, they are now." Tay told everybody in a sickening voice.
"You wern't supposed to press that hard Tay!" Zac yelled.
"I barely toutched her. Shut- up Zac!"
"We're here!" Walker climbed out of the van and opened the door. The boys watched helplessly as the body was ushered away by the hospital people. "Ike! Park the van!" Walker called back. He returned hi attention to telling the doctors the problems. Ike climbed into the driver's seat and parked in the nearest spot. The got out and ran to the door Walker had dissappeared through. The guard stopped them.
"We're with the girl that was just admitted to the hospital." Ike told the guard calmly.
"Are you family?"
"Yes." They answered quickly.
"What relation?"
"Brothers." Ike replied.
"Emergency room."
"Thanks." They followed the signs to the emergency room and found their father pacing outside the closed doors.
"What're the doing?" Zac asked.
"Well, first, they're going to try and revive her, obviously. Then they're going to reset the broken bones after taking a scan, and cast 'em up."
"Oh no." Zac sighed.
"How could a person- let alone a family member- beat another so badly- especially someone so young- and related!" Tay exclaimed, in disbelief.
"It's a good thing the rest of the family stayed home this time." Walker replied. They nodded in agreement. A man in a long white coat came out of the room.
"Are you with the girl?"
"Yes. Yes we are." Walker stood up.
"Hi. I'm Dr. Whiteman."
"I'm Walker Hanson." They shook hands.
"Do you know what happened to her?" Walker looked at his son.
"To make a long story short, her grandmother beat her. I found her in the boat house. I ran to get dad and we drove her here. On the way, she passed out. We're not related to her." Making sure the doctor knew it wasn't his family's grandma they were talking about.
"Okay. Well, from what we've found do far, her right knee is dislocated, and her left side set of ribs- well, three are broken. She's going to have to stay in the hospital for at least five days. Does she have any family we could contact?"
"No. She and her sister both live at their grandma's." Taylor answered.
"Well, she shouldn't go back to her grandma- that's for sure. Where are her parents?"
"Paris, France. They don't want her, so they won't help." Tay finished.
"Alright. Well, then, since you brought her in and she has no other family, it's up to you to decide what you want to do with her. I'll let you think about it." The doctor dissappeared back into the emerency room.
