-Chap. 5-
As soon as we stepped in to the house, I walked over to the answering machine, to see, if by chance, Nick had already called. It was blinking, and I got a little jumpy, as I pushed the play button.
“You have one new message.” It said. I pushed play again, hoping to hear Nick’s voice.
“He dears! It’s mom. I hope your guy’s day at school went well. I’m sure it did. Mine did as well. Although, I’m very sorry to dissappoint you guys, but I’m not sure quiet yet when I’ll be home. It seems I’m going to have to stay after to do some catch-up work on my accounts. I also have a meeting later. If I’m not home by 6:30, you guys can throw a pizza in or whatever. You’ll be fine. Give me a call at 555-6339 or my cell, you know the number, if you have any problems. Love ya! Oh, and Audree, don’t forget to pick up Amy, at her bus stop. I don’t want her walking home in a strange neighborhood alone for the first time. Thanks! Love ya!” A message from mom. No message from Nick? I waited anxiously after the message just incase, but there wasn’t a message from Nick.
Just then, as I had given up hope, the phone rang.
“Hello?” I reached for the phone, but Angie had already answered it.
“Hi, is Audree there?”
“May I ask who’s calling?” I reached to grab the phone from her, but she slapped my hands.
“It’s Nick Carter.”
“Audree, it’s a Nick Carter, do you want me to take a message?” She teased me.
“NO, no give it to me!” I snatched the phone from her hands. “Hello?” I asked.
“Hey, Audree?” Nick said, laughing.
“Yeah, sorry, that’s my younger sis, Angie.”
“Oh.” He laughed again. “I was just calling to see if we were still on for tonight.”
“Of course, why wouldn’t we be?”
“I dunno. So, what time did you want me to come and get ya?”
“Oh, whenever. I’m pretty much ready.” I lied.
“Hmm.. well, I gotta wait for my ‘lil bro to get home from school... so how about 4:30?”
“That’s great.” I tried not to sound too excited.
“Okay, well, see ya then.”
“Okay, you know how to get here then?”
“Yeah, I’ll find it.”
“Okay, see you at 4:30.”
“Yeah, bye.” Nick said, and I hung up the phone. I just about screamed, when I realized that Amy had to be taken care of.
“Great!” I shouted, in a bad tone.
“What? I thought you just got a date with that Nick Carter? What’s the matter with that?”
“I don’t know what I’m going to do! I’m suppose to pick up Amy at her bus stop at like 4:30!” I pulled out a chair, and sat down at the kitchen table. My hands fell to my knees, and my head fell inside of them.
“So.” Angie seemed as calm as possible.
“He’s coming at 4:30! I can’t miss this date with Nick!” I sighed, and yet hoped I got the message across for Angie to offer to pick up Amy.
“Okay, well I’ll pick her up.” Angie said, still calm. That’s it, no fight? Hmm.. weird.
“You will?” I asked unsure.
“Sure! I’ll cover for ya! Go on ahead!”
“Really?” I must have sounded stunned, because I was.
“Yeah! I mean, you’ve always been there to help me out of my sticky situations! I don’t see why I can’t help! I don’t have any plans for tonight anyways.”
“Awww.. I’m there for ya man!” I joked in a sappy voice.
“Me too, I love you man!” Angie joked, in the same sappy sounding voice. We laughed.
“Okay, great! Thanks so much! Now, for the bigger problem, what do I wear?” I asked, and we headed upstairs, to sort through our closets, and find a crazy ensemble the we both agreed would look great.
“How about this?” Angie asked, holding up my light blue, short sleeved, cashmere sweater with a pair of black and light blue plaid pants.
“Perfect!” I screeched.
“I know, I try.”
“Oh, come one, it’s my outfit!”
“I know that! But still, you never wear it!”
“Yeah yeah, whatever! Kay, how should I do my hair?” I asked Angie. She always knew how to make my hair look perfect. “I hate my hair! It’s so boring. Long, straight, and golden brown! Everyone has my hair!”
“Aud, you know how much I would die for you hair! Look at me! Everyone’s got my hair, blond, shoulder-length and straight.”
“Yeah yeah.” I just shrugged. “I guess you’re right! Anyways, how should I do it?”
“Hmm..” Angie thought for a moment, and then a smile came across her face. “Okay, we pull it all back, in a french twist, with the ends curled and a few tendrils hanging down!” She sounded jumpy and excited.
“Um.. I don’t want to go overboard! He’ll think I’m a nutcase.” I complained.
“Aud, you ARE a nut case, and besides, he’ll love it! I know he will.”
“You don’t know him. Hell, I don’t even know him... not well.”
“Just trust me. Now sit.” She pointed to my seat infront of my vanity.
“Fine.” I sat down and let her do wonders with my hair. After sitting there, with my hair being pulled in every direction, for about 25 minutes, she was done.
“I love it!” She said, admiring her work. I look in the mirror. It looked good.
“Wow! Thanks! I love it too!!” I smiled, and got up, giving her a quick hug. I grabbed my clothes off my bed, where we put them and told her to leave. “Okay, get out!”
“What?”
“Duh, I gotta change!”
“Oh okay!” She laughed and shut the door on her way out.
After I changed, I looked in my mirror and admired myself. I did look nice. I just hope I’m not too over dressed, then I’ll feel like and idiot. Then again, this kind of outfit can be worn anytime! I kept thinking about how I looked, until I heard the doorbell rang downstairs. I ran through the hallway and slowed down the stairs (I didn’t want to look too anxious)! I ran past the living room mirror, checked my hair, and headed over to the front door. I was too late, Angie had already beat me to it. I knew she was going to torture me with this one.
