“Sara, open the door!” Jenni yelled, punding on Sara’s front door. They’d
been standing there for the past 5 minutes, knowing that Sara was home, but
getting no answer. “Sara!” She yelled again, pounding harder.
Sara dragged herself from her bed, hearing Jenni’s pounding. She walked over
the the window to glance if it was just Jenni. She saw AJ’s car.
“Great,” She muttered to herself, “I’m gonna get lectured by Jenni AND AJ!”
Grumpily, she walked out of her room and down the stairs. “I’m coming!” She
yelled, in regards to Jenni’s pounding.
“She’s coming.” Jenni whispered to Brian who was sitting in the far corner of
Sara’s porch.
“No kidding.” Brian mocked her. Jenni glared at him.
“Get over here!” Jenni said. Brian didn’t move. The door flung open, with
Sara standing in a pair of flannel pants and a Nike sweatshirt, her arms
crossed. “Nice to see you too.” Jenni said, pushing through Sara into her
house. AJ quickly followed, only giving Sara a nod. “What the hell are u
wearing a sweatshirt and flannel pants? It’s summer!”
“I’m sorry, it’s freezing in here.” Sara said, pointing to the air
conditioner. She pushed the door shut, but Brian popped up before the door
could shut all the way. A bouquet of 12 white roses held in front of his
smiling face. He tried to be as calm and happy as possible, although he really
was feeling far from either of them.
Sara caught off guard, jumped back, startled.
“Hey Sara.” Brian said, casually.
“What the hell is going on here?” Sara ignored Brian and starred at Jenni.
Jenni looked at AJ and AJ’s stare went to Brian, who was trying to force a
smile to his face, who was looking at Sara.
“Well, we brought Brian over here to talk thi--” Sara wouldn’t listen to
anymore of what Jenni had to say. She stormed up to her room, running so fast,
she almost tripped on the stairs on her way up. They all shook as they heard
Sara’s bedroom door slam.
“That went over real well.”
“AJ, hun, this isn’t the best time for wise-cracks.” Jenni said, calmly.
“He’s right though. I told you guys she wouldn’t talk to me. This was a big
joke. Stupid of us for trying.” Brian muttered, throwing the flowers beside
him, as he sat on Sara’s couch.
“Look B, I don’t know what’s gotten into you lately, but I’ve never seen this
in you before. We brought you over to talk to her and you’re not leaving til
you do.” AJ grinned, and dangled his car keys from between his fingertips.
Brian’s face showed more anger.
“SHE DOESN’T WANT ME ANYMORE! OKAY, GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD, WE’RE THROUGH
TRYING!” Brian yelled at AJ.
“GUYS! THIS IS THE 50TH TIME IN THE PAST WEEK I’VE HAD TO TELL YOU TWO TO
STOP FIGHTING! Would you guys quit it already.. you’re acting so mature. Look,
AJ why don’t you and I go down to the coffee shop or something, and give Brian
and Sara some time to be alone with their thoughts and talk.” Jenni suggested.
She was so sick of the fighting. Not only what was going on between Brian and
Sara, but Brian and AJ as well.
“Okay, sounds good to me.” AJ said, smiling again. He walked over to Jenni
and put his arm around her. “Okay, I’m not trying to preach to you or anything
B-rok, but I know how much you like, perhaps love, Sara. Don’t let her slip
away.” With those words, and two hopeful glances from AJ and Jenni, Brian was
left. Alone, he sat and thought on Sara’s couch.
“What am I doing sitting down here, when she’s upstairs?” He asked himself.
So, he got up, grabbed the roses, and began to walk up the stairs.
“Sara.” He said, knocking quietly on her door. He could hear her sobs.
“Go away. Just leave, please.” She cried softly. Brian hardly understood her.
“What? I’m not going anywhere until I find out what happened!” He said back
to her.
“Leave.” She cried harder.
“Sara, I’m not going anywhere. I will sit right here and wait for you to open
the door.” With those words, Brian sat down, against the one of the hallway
walls that framed Sara’s bedroom door. The two of them were silent for quite a
while. Brian thought to himself.
“I don’t know how much longer I can sit here! I’ve got to get her to open the
door.”
Then, an idea that he knew would work, right away, came to mind. He knew it
was the only way to get her to open the door, and he was almost certain it
would. He began to sing.
“Girl, you know I’d go out of my mind, if you ever left my heart behind. So
I’m begging you please bring your sweet love back to me. If I don’t have you,
to hold on to. Girl, I can’t go on, in this world alone, if I don’t have you.
If you said goodbye, girl I would die. I’m a star with no light, a day with no
night, if I don’t have you.” No sooner had those words left his lips, then
there was Sara, standing in the doorway, with a smile and tears on her cheeks.
Brian quickly got to his feel and handed her the roses.
“Oh Brian!” She said, happily, and wrapped her arms around his neck while
kissing his cheek. She took his hand led him into her room. They sat down on
her bed.
“Okay Sara. We’ve gotta talk.” Brian said, calmly.
“I know.”
“Well, what’s the matter?” Brian asked.
“It’s just you were acting sort of weird, and the when I left that day, you
all of a sudden stopped talking to me and seeing me. Is there someone else?”
She had a concerned look in her face. The tears stopped falling, but sat on
her cheek. Brian reached over and whiped the tears off.
“No, Sara, there’s nobody but you.”
“Then why were you acting like that?”
“Because, there is something I have to tell you.”
“Tell me already Brian!”
