Sara and Brian continued kissing eachother, until Brian asked what time it was.
“It’s 2:45, why?”
“Oh man, I gotta get home! Kev’s gonna be at my house soon if he’s not already there!”
“Oh.” Sara frowned. “Let me get my keys.” She got her keys and drove Brian back to her house. Brian gave her a quick kiss good-bye and apologized for having to leave.
“It’s okay. I’ll talk to you later! Bye!” She said to him as he got out of the car and ran, through the rain, to his door. She drove home unhappy. She hated rainy days, especially being alone on them.
When Brian got in the front door. Kevin was sitting on the couch, talking to AJ and Jenni.
“Hey, look who finally shows up!” Kevin said.
“Yeah! Sorry! Hey Jen, you’re still here?” Brian asked.
“Yep.”
“Did you call your parents?” He asked.
“Yeah. AJ, hun, let’s go upstairs.” She said, grabbed AJ hand and pulled him up, toward the stairs. A big grin came over AJ’s face. Kevin just laughed.
“So, cuz, whacha been up to?” Brian asked him, sitting down in the chair.
“Oh nothing really. How about you?”
“Not too much. I’ve got a girl friend.”
“Oh really?” Kevin said, sounding interested.
“Yeah. That’s where I was before I got here, at her house.”
“Ohhh...” Kevin said, laughing.
“Shut up!” Brian got defensive.
“So, where’d you meet her?”
“At the park. Her name’s Sara. We we all went on a group date, AJ, Nick, Sara, Jenni, and me.”
“Five of you?”
“Yeah. I just brought Nick and AJ along so I wouldn’t get too nervous. Things kinda turned out to be a mess after that though!” He said, and then told Kev the whole story behind Nick, Sara, and himself.
“Wow! That is a mess.”
“I know, but we’re happy now.” Brian said happily.
“You and Sara are, what about Nick?”
“Oh, I haven’t even thought about him really.”
“Some friend!” Kevin commented.
“Shut up, all right. You wouldn’t understand. He doesn’t want to talk to me anyways.” Brian said, getting upset. Kevin just nodded.
When Sara got into her house, there was another message on her answering machine. It was from Nick.
“Hey Sara, this is Nick.” He paused. “I would really like to talk to you. So if ya wanna, give me a call when you get this.”
“Uh-oh.” Sara said to herself. She knew she needed to talk to Nick, but she didn’t know what to day. She dialed his number anyways.
“Hello?” a voice said when they answered the phone. It was a young boy.
“Hi, is Nick there?”
“Yep, hold on.” She heard him yell in the background. “NICK!!! It’s a girl! OOHH!” “Shut up!” She heard Nick yell before picking up the reciever.
“Hello?” Sara heard Nick’s voice ask in a somewhat harsh and upset way.
“Hey Nick,” she paused, “it’s Sara.”
“Hey.” He sighed.
“How are you doing?”
“Fine, I tried to call, but I guess you weren’t home.” Nick sounded disappointed.
“I know.” They were both very quiet. “So, why did you call?”
“I don’t know really. I guess I wanted to talk things out with you.”
“Oh. Well, how do you feel?”
“Just peachy.” Nick said sarcastically. “How am I suppose to feel? My best friend is going out with the girl,” he paused, and then whispered, “I think I love.”
“Nick, please, don’t.” Sara pleaded.
“Don’t what?” Nick snapped.
“Would you stop yelling at me already!” Sara yelled and tears began to stream down her face. Nick heard her start crying.
“I’m sorry.” He said, but didn’t sound like he meant it.
“Well, if we can’t talk this out...” Sara stopped. There was a knock on her door. “Hold on.” She said and set down the phone. She walked up to her door and saw Brian standing at the door. She opened it. “Oh Brian!” She said, hugging him. He saw the tears on her face.
“What’s the matter? What happened??” He asked.
“Nick, he’s on the phone, I called him because he called me. I.." She couldn’t finish her sentance.
“Hello?” Brian asked, picking up the phone.
“What do you want? So you’re there now!” Nick said angrily.
“What’s going on?”
“Nothing! I gotta go!” Nick shouted, and hung up the phone. Brian just looked down at the phone, and hung up.
“He hung up.” Brian said, looking at Sara. Who was sitting on her couch, all balled up, staring out the window.
“Oh.” She said.
“What happened?”
“I just called him. I think I hurt him, alot.” She sobbed. She felt terrible. She was so confused now.
“Oh.” Brian said. He felt bad, also. “Do you like him?”
“Brian!” Sara looked at him and yelled. “Ugh! How inconciderate can you be? I’m with you are’t I?”
“Well I figured if you didn’t like him, you wouldn’t crying like that over him. I’m so sorry! I’m such a jerk.” Brian said unhappily. He looked out the window this time, and his adorable duck face came over him. Sara laughed quietly under the tears.
“What?” Brian asked her confused, “now you’re laughing?!”
“You!”
“Me, what?”
“That face. It’s so cute!”
“What? You’re confusing me!”
“That little duck face you do! It’s too cute!”
“Oh.”
“I’m sorry.” Sara got up and walked over to him, and hugged him. “I’m sorry I got like that. I just am very confused. Please forgive me.” She pleaded, frowning.
“Okay. I’m sorry too.” Brian said, hugging her back.
They lingered in eachothers arms, just standing there. Brian broke the silence.
“Hun, I’m still not sure what to do about Nick! He’s so upset, he won’t even talk to me!”
“I know, he won’t really say anything to me either. Maybe we should talk to AJ and Jenni. I know Jenni’s always helpful with my problems.”
“Yeah, so’s AJ.”
“Ha, they’re the perfect couple!” Sara laughed.
“Yeah!” Brian laughed also. “Let’s go, oh yeah, my cuz Kev’s probably still there. You can meet him.” He said, as they walked out of Sara’s house, and drove over the Brian’s.
