On August 16 & 17, 2003, Culture Fest Incorporated held it's
annual festival at Miller Park in Bloomington. The weekend was
filled with great singing, dancing and activities for all to enjoy.
The heat was on high as we recorded one of the hottest weekends
this year. The Men of Omega Psi Phi, Chi Beta Beta Graduate Chapter
were up to the challenge of conquering the sweltering heat. As
the beverage provider for this years fest, we served up ice cold
soda and water to all patrons who stopped by our booth. The two-day
festival allowed us an opportunity to mingle with the various sectors
of our community. We had brothers on hand who are deputy registrars
ready and willing to register voters in our community. Our booth
also contained information from HUD regarding looking for, buying,
financing and ultimately keeping a home. We realize a firm stance
needs to be taken about voting and its importance as well as we
must commit to helping increase the percentage of families of color
who are home owners. Omega is about social change in our community
and we are willing to stand in the forefront to demand that change.
Our goal is to help foster an environment where every member of
our community is treated in a fair and equitable manner. Our time
at the Culture Fest 2003 was well spent and we look forward to
other opportunities to help in our community. We have a long hard
road ahead of us but any true Omega Man knows that it was a long
hard journey to get to where we are and we must stop to build a
bridge for those that will come behind us.
Fraternally,
Tim Howell
